R-2.0.0 on ARM (Sharp Zaurus)
Hi All,
I've recently dusted off my cross-compiling hat and decided to add R to the
OpenEmbedded build environment (this is used to build the
OpenZaurus/Familiar distributions for the Zaurus/iPAQ amongst other things -
I note there's also work underway to add the Psion 5mx etc. to
OpenEmbedded).
OpenEmbedded builds now use -soft-float which makes floating point
operations something like

Problem in method's Makefile?
Hi there ...
Not too long after the switch to using Subversion I tried to checkout &
build R but encountered an error - and being short on time at that point
put it off to look at later. So today I sat down again and was
encountering this error every time I would attempt to build:
dumping R code in package 'methods'
Saving namespace image ...

R on the Zaurus link
Hello All,
The link to the binary & installation instructions (tar.gz binary not an ipk
I'm afraid) is as follows: http://students.bath.ac.uk/enpsgp/Zaurus/#R
It eventually dawned on me that the WORDS_BIGENDIAN define (or lack thereof)
was causing the problems (after testing ieee NaN compliance that is).
When cross-compiling it's probably fair enough that the configure script

R on the Zaurus (the return)
Hello All,
I read in the archives that someone managed to compile R but that there were
problems with the fp performance, specifically the handling of NaNs. Could
someone please explain the problem to me and how to test whether it is
occurring.
I have just compiled R for the Zaurus 5500, and want to see whether it works
or requires tweaking.
Regards,
Simon

R on the Zaurus
Hello All,
I have a working port of R on my SL5500. I've not tested the X windowing
support yet, but was more concerned about the accuracy of the fp emulation.
The following is the result of the test which Stuart Leask recommended I
should try:
Mandrake 8.2
> x<-NA
> is.na(x)
[1] TRUE
> x+1
[1] NA
> 2*x
[1] NA
Zaurus OZ3
> x<-NA

[1] TRUE
> x+1

building windows packages under wine/linux and cross-compiling.
Had some fun today, and thought it might be a good idea to share
and possibly for inclusion to R/src/gnuwin32/README.packages .
Wine/linux : while R, ActiveState Perl, mingw all works alright under
wine, the blocking issue is Rtool's cygwin dependency. forking
(as much of make and sh is forking sub-processes)
on posix-on-win32-on-posix currently doesn't work.

Problems encountered/fixed making CrossCompileBuild
Dear All:
I encountered and apparently overcame problems following Yan
and Rossini?s procedure for "Building Microsoft Windows
Versions of R and R packages under Intel Linux"
(http://cran.r-project.org/doc/contrib/cross-build.pdf): I
have successfully cross-compiled R packages for Windows on a
FreeBSD 4.10 i386 system.

write a library under 2.0.1 version
Hi there,
I had written a library under R 1.9.0 and now I would like to import that
library under R 2.0.1
Apparently it does not work; I can install the package, but when I try to
read it the error is the following:
Error in library(compvar) : 'compvar' is not a valid package -- installed
< 2.0.0
I have checked other libraries in R 2.0.1 and I noticed that there is a

free sun boxes
I have 4 sparc based sun boxes I am about to pay money so I can
get rid of them. They are running older versions of Solaris.
You should be able to load Solaris 10 and play around with *
on them.
Time to clean the office:
3 Ultra 5
1 Sparcstation 5
I also have a box full of Sun keyboards and mice.
Contact me offline if you want them.
I've had many good years of development on them and it

Design library installation problem
Dear Listers
I have tried to install Frank Harrell's two libaries: Hmisc
and Design.
I found that Hmisc was listed in the list of packages from
the Install Packages command on the Packages menu, but
Design was not. I installed Hmisc from this list, and when I
issued the library(Hmisc) command, it loaded into memory
correctly.
I then copied the Design 1.1-1.zip file from the

Histograms, density, and relative frequencies
R-users,
I have been using R for about 1 year, and I have run across a
couple of graphics problem that I am not quite sure how to address. I have
read up on the email threads regarding the differences between density and
relative frequencies (count/sum(count) on the R list, and I am hoping that
someone could provide me with some advice/comments concerning my
approach. I will admit

[patch] linux-2.6 performance fix
This patch for linux-2.6 defconfig more than quadrupled iperf throughput,
restoring the gigethernet network performance to wire speed at long last.
Applies to xen-2.0-testing.bk xen-2.0.bk and xeno-unstable.bk
The throughput on linux-2.4.29 seems fine. I hadn''t tried it since 2.4.27.

samba-3.3.4 AD/krb5/pam build failure on AIX 5.3/6.1 UNKNOWN_CREATE_KEY_FUNCTIONS
Hi all!
Perhaps someone here could tell me if this has been seen before.
We're trying to build samba-3.3.4 for IBM AIX with support for PAM, Active Directory, and Kerberos.
The end goal is to be able to join the AIX system to our Active Directory domain so that users can log in via their AD username/password, and have access to their home directory via the Windows pass-through authentication
