how to define functions in such a situation
hi R folks,
I need read a file from hardisk or www web. Then I need to define some
new functions according to the contents of the read file.
For example, i need write a package name "mypackage" like this:
>library(mypackage)
>read(some_file_on_web) #to see its content, suppose it contains:
eat.drink.sleep
then 3 new functions need to be created and usable.
the problem is, how

Loading of namespace on load of .Rdata (was strange behaviour of load)
Last week Giovanni Parrinello posted a message asking why various packages were loaded when he loaded an .Rdata file. Brian Ripley replied saying he thought it was because the saved workspace contained a reference to the namespace of ipred. (Correspondence copied below).
This begs the question: how did the reference to the namespace of ipred come to be in the .Rdata file? Brian did say it is

Overlapping parameters "k" in different functions in "ipred"
Dear List,
I have a question regarding "ipred" package. Under 10-fold cv, for different knn ( = 1,3,...25), I am getting same misclassification errors:

data(iris)
cv.k = 10 ## 10-fold cross-validation
bwpredict.knn <- function(object, newdata) predict.ipredknn(object, newdata, type="class")

dimnames in pkg "ipred"
Hello List,
I`m trying to make prediction using a bagged tree with the package ipred. I tried to follow the manual but I`m getting an error message. Also browsing through the list-archive I didn`t find any hint.
Maybe someone can help me?

adding function to a Package
As a shortcut I have previously added my own functions to a Package (ipred)
under R-1.8.1, changing the NAMESPACE file to accomodate this then
reinstalling. This doesn't now seem possible in R-1.9.0 is this correct?-- I
am getting an error saying:
"files NAMESPACE, R/ipred have the wrong MD5 checksums"
after I try to reinstall (which I can understand). Is there a quick way

Partykit Document
Hi All,
I'm a newcomer to the R community, just started learning R. I need
to use partykit for developing CART. But I'm not getting any document/help
for using partykit/rpart.
http://www.agrocampus-ouest.fr/math/useR-2009/slides/Hothorn+Zeileis.pdfgives
some example, but it doesn't tell how my own data should be formatted
so that it can be accepted by partykit.

Warcraft III can't find cdrom
Hi,
After setting the windows version to winxp I managed to install this
game without a problem. Playing however is another matter. It appears it
can't find the CDrom.
I'm using the deb-packages from winehq (version 20050111) in a sid
chroot on an AMD64 pure64 install with kernel 2.6.8 (Debian package
2.6.8-10). I copied the config file from the sample in the documentation

ctree for suvival analysis problem
Hi All,
I'm using the party package to grow conditional inference trees for survival
analysis.
When I used party version party_0.9-9991 everything worked well, but when I
update to party_1.0-2 (due to using 64bit R), I get an error. For simplicity
I will show the error I get for the example in the party documentation:

modifying predict.nnet() to function with errorest()
Greetings,
I am having trouble calculating artificial neural network
misclassification errors using errorest() from the ipred package.
I have had no problems estimating the values with randomForest()
or svm(), but can't seem to get it to work with nnet(). I believe
this is due to the output of the predict.nnet() function within
cv.factor(). Below is a quick example of the problem I'm

New Package: ipred - Improved predictors
The package ipred is uploaded to CRAN.
The main focus of the package is the calculation of improved predictors
in classification tasks. Misclassification error can be improved by
bootstrap aggregated classification trees and/or
the framework of indirect classification. Furthermore, a unified
interface for the estimation of misclassification error
completes the features of ipred.

Request for Assistance in R with NonMem
Hi
I am having some problems running a covariate analysis with my
colleage using R with the NonMem program we are using for a graduate
school project. R and NonMem run fine without adding in the
covariates, but the program is giving us a problem when the covariate
analysis is added. We think the problem is with the R code to run the
covariate data analysis. We have the control stream, R code

a question about swap space, memory and read.table()
Hi all
Two computers:
one is my desktop PC, windows2000, R 1.9.1. Physical RAM 256MB, Swap
(Virtual memory) 384Mb. When I allocate a large matrix, it firstly
uses up RAM, then use swap space. In windows' task manager, the usage
of memory could exceed my physic RAM's size.
The other machine is a remote server. Windows XP, R 1.9.1 Physical RAM 2GB.
Swap space 4GB. I use "R

I am validating several cancer prognostic models that have been
published with a large independent dataset. Some of the models report a
probability of survival at a specified timepoint, usually at 5 and 10
years. Others report only the linear predictor of the Cox model.
I have used Harrell's c index for censored data (rcorr.cens) as a

problems with Rcmdr on R-2.10.0 with Karmic Koala
Dear R Debian People:
I have put this on regular R help as well, but thought that I'd try here too.
I updated to R-2.10.0 on Ubuntu Karmic Koala via apt-get update, apt-get install.
Then I had a problem that said that I need MASS <= R-2.9.2. Fair enough. Uwe Ligges was kind enough to point out that I needed to use
> update.packges(checkBuilt=TRUE)
So I did.
Now the menu on Rcmdr

..i make attempts with unlist, get really atomic

Thanks for advance
