nls() fit to Kahnemann/ Tversky function
Dear WizaRds, I would like to fit a curve to ten points with nls() for one unknown parameter gamma in the Kahnemann/ Tversky function, but somehow it won't work and I am unable to locate my mistake. p.kum <- seq(0.1,1, by=0.1) felt.prob.kum <- c(0.16, 0.23, 0.36, 0.49, 0.61, 0.71, 0.85, 0.89, 0.95, 1) ## how to find a function that fits these points nicely? plot(p.kum,

pairwise combinatons of variables
Dear WizaRds, although this might be a trivial question to the community, I was unable to find anything solving my problem in the help files on CRAN. Please help. Suppose I have 4 variables and want to use all possible combinations: 1,2 1,3 1,4 2,3 2,4 3,4 for a further kmeans partitioning. I tried permutations() of package e1071, but this is not what I need. Thank you for your help and

select subsets in data frame
Dear WizaRds! A trivial question indeed on selecting subsets in data frames. I am sorry. Unfortunately, I did not find any helpful information on the introduction, searched the help archive and read in introductory books. Please help: I want to select column "KB" which is read via read.csv2 as a data.frame into d. I checked that it is indeed a data.frame object and included the

Indexing and partially replacing 99, 999 in data frames
Dear WizaRds, unfortunately, I have been unable to replace the '99' and '999' entries in library(UsingR) attach(babies) as definitions for missing values NA, because sometimes the 99 entry is indeed a correct value. Usually, or so I thought, NAs can easily replace a, say, 999 entry via mymat[mymat==999] <- "yodl" in a matrix or data frame. Alas, the babies'

Conditional Selection of Columns for Tables
Dear Wizards - Thank you so much for your help. That was exactly what I was looking for. Now, I have been working on conditional selection of columns in a data frame. My goal is to calculate the total revenue per sales representative per status in a table. I have come to a complete stop: Let's say, we have a data.frame called df with several columns and a number of rows: df <-

regression with restrictions - optimization problem
Dear WizaRds! I am sorry to ask for some help, but I have come to a complete stop in my efforts. I hope, though, that some of you might find the problem quite interesting to look at. I have been trying to estimate parameters for lotteries, the so called utility of chance, i.e. the "felt" probability compared to a rational given probability. A real brief example: Given is a lottery

pgup/pgdown in R Graphics Window under Linux
Dear S-users. This should be an easy one: How do I change pages on an X11 graphics device under linux? I thought that the page-up/page-down keys were supposed to do the trick, but the frame (window) seems to be kind of immune to any kind of keyboard input. The only reaction I ever see is that the mouse pointer changes to a "+" when moved into the frame. I issue these commands:

Could anyone answer for the following question
Hello , could anyone answer for the following question for me: I am using R 2.0.1 under Windows XP. I want to write a function that makes four graphs and stores each of them in graphics history. When the function finishes, in other words, I want its graphical output to be stored in a way that I can look at it using PgUp and PgDn. I think I need commands I can put in a function that

windows(record=T) loses last plot (PR#3663)
The audit trail indicates that PR#3663 is not reproducible and/or fixed, but I believe windows(record=T) is still not working as documented: windows(record=T) for(i in 1:5) plot(0, 0, cex=4, pch=as.character(i)) After cycling through the plots with PgUp and PgDn, the user finds out that plot 5 is lost. Indeed, .SavedPlots reports that only 4 plots were saved. I'm running the example in

Console display "buffer size"
Greetings All. This is a somewhat generic query (I'm really asking on behalf of a friend who uses R on Windows, whereas I'm on Linux, but the same phenomenon appears on both). Say one has a largish dataframe -- call it "G" -- which in the case under discussion has 592 rows and 41 columns. The intention is to display the data by simply entering its name (G) as command. Say the

Crash with qemu install: 5.2 as host and 5.2 as guest
Hi, I'm trying to install a CentOS 5.2 guest with virt-manager/qemu on a CentOS 5.2 system (X86_x64, 3ware 9650SE, 2 x Intel VT capable xeon cpus, 8 GB) Unfortunately I'm getting a crash in the guest install process. Other systems are installing smoothely, even Windows xp, but the above combination won't install. What works, too: CentOS 5.2 xen unmodified (i.e. fully virtual) guest,

Activating Graphics History
I'm having trouble finding documentation on how to activate the "record graphics history" option via a command line (as opposed to having to use the menu). I would like to store a series of graphics. The readme says: `The History menu allows the recording of plots. When plots have been recorded they can be reviewed by PgUp and PgDn, saved and replaced. Recording can be turned

Multistage Sampling
Dear WizaRds, dear Thomas, First of all, I want to tell you how grateful I am for all your support. I wish I will be able to help others along one day the same way you do. Thank you so much. I am struggling with a multistage sampling design: library(survey) multi3 <- data.frame(cluster=c(1,1,1,1 ,2,2,2, 3,3), id=c(1,2,3,4, 1,2,3, 1,2), nl=c(4,4,4,4, 3,3,3, 2,2), Nl=c(100,100,100,100,
