acts as ferret, make index in /tmp then copy back to avoid NFS slowness?
Hi,
We''re happily using Ferret through acts_as_ferret on a Rails website,
but we have an issue with rebuilding indexes.
The Rails project directories are on an NFS mounted volume and
running Model.rebuld_index there seems to take 60-100 times longer
than it does on a local filesystem (e.g. /tmp).
What we''d like to do is rebuild our indexes in say /tmp, then copy
them back when

Typo and acts_as_ferret rebuild_index errror
Hi, I''m running the edge Typo and the latest acts_as_ferret plugin and
ferret gems (as of 11 April).
In my Content model I put acts_as_ferret :fields => [:title, :body]
In the console, I call Content.rebuild_index to index all of my existing
content. All the directories get created etc, but I get the following
error back:

Using AAF with ActiveRecord outside of Rails?...
Hi,
My project has been happily using ActiveRecord outside of
Rails for some time to populate various databases that are
also used in Rails based websites.
I''d like to bring AAF into this setup to index new records
that are added to the databases as they''re added.
Has anyone had any success in installing and using AAF
with ActiveRecord but outside the Rails plugin support?

NameError uninitialized constant Ferret::Index::FieldInfos
Hi Everyone,
I''ve a RoR application. I am trying to build full text search capability
into it. I installed Ferret. After that I installed the act_as_ferret
plugin. I''ve also put the acts_as_ferret inside the <model>.rb file .
I''m using the find_by_contents to get the search results.
I''m getting the following error. I''ve no clue and I

in acts_as_ferret, excluding records from rebuild_index
Is there any way for the automatic ''rebuild_index'' of ''acts_as_ferret''
from exclude certain records from being included in the index?

Capistrano - how do I set up the database config?
My app is set up without database.yml in version control. I created a
shared_path/config dir, and put database.yml in it. After I update
the code, I want to link the app''s database.yml file to the shared
config. So I added this task
desc ''Copy the database config''
task :after_update_code, :roles => :app do
run "ln -s #{shared_path}/config/database.yml

acts_as_ferret 0.2.2
Hi all,
I just tagged acts_as_ferret 0.2.2 as the current stable version, so get
it while it''s hot ;-)
new features:
- added support for the multiple models/single index approach.
- find out the total number of search results by calling total_hits on
the array returned by find_by_contents.
fixes:
- trac tickets #20 (find_by_contents breaks ferret sorting) and #24

acts_as_ferret : cannot use a customized Analyzer (as indicated in the AdvancedUsageNotes)
Hi all,
I cannot make aaf (rev. 220) use my custom analyzer, despite following the
indications @
http://projects.jkraemer.net/acts_as_ferret/wiki/AdvancedUsage
To pinpoint the problem, I created a model + a simple analyzer with 2 stop
words : "fax" and "gsm".
test 1 : model.rebuild_index + model.find_by_contents("fax") # fax is a
stop word.

Memory consumption too high
Hi,
I''m having trouble with ferret and AAF blowing up with a NoMemoryError.
Sometimes when I add documents inside my rails app. Ferret starts
consuming huge amounts of memory. I''m on a machine with 2GB of memory
and it still runs out of memory. Sometimes I''m able to run
MyObject.rebuild_index and the memory doesn''t move up at all. However,
sometimes it

Ferret locks up when adding items to an index
I''m running Ferret 0.9.5 on a MacBook Pro (OS X 10.4.7) under
Locomotive 2.0.7.
I have a problem where Ferret is hanging when I try to add items to
the index. It doesn''t happen with every object that''s being indexed,
and I''m not sure what the objects in question have in common (they
are not all instances of the same ActiveRecord object). The process

Ferret/acts_as_ferret don''t seem to be doing anything
I''m having an odd problem with Ferret 0.9.5 and acts_as_ferret 0.2.3, on
RedHat Linux Enterprise 4.
All of my find_by_contents calls return 0 results. When I try
Foo.rebuild_index via the console, it returns nil.
This is happening on my production machine, during deployment of my app.
Everything works perfectly on my development machine (Windows).
I have no idea where to start

Problems with Unicode and acts_as_ferret
Thanks to Dave and everyone who has contributed to ferret and
acts_as_ferret! Man, can I not wait until I get this up and working on
my project. Just the fuzzy search alone will be worth it.
I''m having problems with rebuilding the index. My database includes
Unicode entries, and I have configured the rest of Rails to correctly
use it. On the initial index creation, I get this

Problem with acts_as_ferret demo

I copied the demo folder into my rails apps and also created the

MySQL has gone away
Hi,
in a production environment we are running into "MySQL server has gone
away" errors (see below) when we call rebuild_index in aaf. This happens
sporadically.
Any suggestions for what might be wrong or workarounds? I guess we try a
reconnect before we call rebuild_index?

Error on manual indexing
I''m having some problems with getting the drb server to work correctly
on my production server. As a workaround I tried disabling automatic
indexing and have a cron job manually update the index every hour or so.
I disabled the automatic indexing with:

false
end
But whenever I try Page.rebuild_index
I get a ''wrong number of arguments''

Ferret failing to rebuild_index - occasionally unable to delete a file (_j.cfs)
I''m switching all my fulltext searching over to ferret using the
acts_as_ferret plugin on windows (for development, will be deployed on
linux).
In my tests I have a setup method as follows to ensure the index is
reset for each test:
def setup
Item.rebuild_index
end
This works fine for the initial few tests but then suddenly fails for
the last few tests when it seems to be
