CART analysis
I would like to know if is it possible implemet a partitioning tree
using a function like rpart, or mvpart, and with formula a glm-object
(as a logistic models) or a robust linear regression (as least sum of
absolute errors).
In this case, the appropriate "method" to use is "mrt"? Or another one?
Thanks,

New package: msmtools (v1.0)
Greetings, R users!
It is with pleasure that I am announcing the release of msmtools package on CRAN:
https://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/msmtools/index.html
msmtools provides a fast and general method for restructuring classical longitudinal data into augmented ones. The reason for this is to facilitate the modeling of longitudinal data under a multi-state framework using the 'msm?

effective df in local polinomial regression
Hallo R-users,
I would like to know if there is a way to get the effective degrees
of freedom in
local polinomial regression. At the moment, to carry out the local
polinomial regression, I am using the function
locpoly() in library KernSmooth (I need to estimate both the regression
function and its derivatives, up to the 3rd one).
Thanks,
Simone

question on DPpackage
Hi to everyone,
I'm a PhD student and I'm involved in non parametric analyses of
hierarchical models. I tried to use package DPpackage on my data, but I
encountered some problems in interpreting ouputs. Can anybody help me?
The problem can be remued as follows: I have a logit hierarchical model

Xen4, remus and LVM questions
Hello
I successfully upgraded to xen 4.0 on my Gentoo servers and I''m trying
to use remus to enhance servers'' HA.
first of all: I''ve tried remus with --no-net option just to test and it
works fine, if I try to run it without that option it just stops
claiming that no sch_queue module can be loaded.
That module is present in xen 4.0 source tree, but my gentoo seems not

Problems with power management xen 3.4
I''ve a problem with managing power consumption on Intel Nehalem CPU.
I''ve installed Xen 3.4 on our Dell PowerEdge T610 system on a Ubuntu
9.04 distribution. I recompiled the kernel 2.6.30rc5. Now I can see
the c-states of the CPUs but no access to P-states information and the
frequency scaling does not work.
By the way, if I run the kernel 2.6.28.13 which is the last one

Neural Network
Hi all,
I am working for my master's thesis and I need to do a neural network to
forecast stock market price, with also external inputs like technical
indicators.
I would like to know which function and package of R are more suitable for
this study.
Thanks a lot for your response,

I tried tu use the function >hist(x, break=20 ... ) but this return the numerosity for every breaks, not the mean.

slow start-up
Dear all,
I'm working with R 1.2.2 on win98 (256Mb RAM) with ESS 5.1.18.
It happens that the start-up is very slow. I don't know exactly how to measure, but with a simple watch I recorded 15 seconds, while the startup of S+ 2000 (Sqpe+4 under ESS) takes around 3 seconds.
Tha fact is that sometimes it takes almost a minute (58.30 sec recorded) for the prompt to appear! And ESS gives me an

Multiple linear regression
Dear R-users,
I've a question regardiing multiple linear regression.
Is it possible to regress a function of the type
y=b0+b1*x1+b2*x2
constraining the partial derivatives dy/dx1 and dy/dx2 to be greater
than 0 ???
Thank you very much for any possible suggestion.
Best regards

Equivalent for Matematica function Which...
Dear All!
I'm looking for equivalent of Matematica function "Which" which works as
follows:
z = Which[x<10,0.3, 10<=x<20,0.5, 20<=x<100,1]
where x is a vector
I can replace it with custom function with set of ifelse but I'm looking
for simpler and faster (much faster) solution
best wishes

Fwd: Rcpp sugar dpois
Hi. Here is a piece of cpp code.
It works, but I do not understand the rational for the use of
"R::dpois" to call the function dpois since in the examples I have always
found directly "dpois" or "Rcpp::dpois" that both do not work in my code.
Could anyone be so patient to explain me why should it be like that?
Thaks a lot, Enrico
