A somewhat off the line question to a log normal distribution
Sigfried, I am not a statistician, but I have learned that according to the Central Limit Theorem (CLT) sums of random variables, regardless of their form, will tend to be normally distributed. CLT does not require the variables in the sum to come from the same underlying distribution. Ciao, Hannu Kahra Progetti Speciali Monte Paschi Asset Management SGR S.p.A. Via San Vittore, 37 IT-20123

Re: A somewhat off the line question to a log normal distribution
Dear Siegfried, I believe your boss is wrong saying that: >He also tried to explain me that the monthly means >(based on the daily measurements) must follow a >log-normal distribution too then over the course of a year. every statistician know that increasing the sample size the sample distribution of the mean is proxy to a gaussian distribution (Central Limit Theorem) independently

BUG: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for 36s! [swapper/0:0]
This bug is reported only on the VM's with CentOS 7 running on on VMware ESXi 5.1. The vSphere performance graph shows high CPU consume and disk activity only on VM's with CentOS 7. Sometimes I can not connect remotely with ssh (timeout error). The details of last issues was reported to retrace.fedoraproject.org. ?Do you have a hint? [root at vmguest ~]# abrt-cli list id

greek in main title
Hello, I have written a function that demonstrates the CLT by generating samples following the exponential distribution, calculating the means, plotting the histogram, and drawing the limiting normal curve as an overlay. I have the title of each histogram state the sample size and rate (1/theta) for the exponential (the output is actually 4 histograms), but I can't get the greek letter theta

Solaris ingores server variable
Hi everyone, I got a basic puppetmaster setup, which works well for Linux. I''ve setup a basic function: define remotefile($owner = root, $group = root, $mode, $source, $backup = false, $recurse = false) { file { $name: mode => $mode, owner => $owner, group => $group, backup => $backup,

Normal and Poisson tail area expectations in R
I am interested in R functions for the following integrals / sums (expressed best I can in text) - Normal: G_u(k) = Integration_{Lower limit=k}^{Upper limit=infinity} [(u -k) f(u) d(u)], where where u is N(0,1), and f(u) is the density function. Poisson: G(lambda,k) = Sum_{Lower limit=k}^{Upper limit=infinity} [(x-k) p(x, lambda)] where P(x,lambda) is the Poisson prob function with parameter

Integration of mixed normal distribution
Hi, I already found a conversation on the integration of a normal distribution and two suggested solutions (https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-help/2007-January/124008.html): 1) integrate(dnorm, 0,1, mean = 0, sd = 1.2) and 2) pnorm(1, mean = 0, sd = 1.2) - pnorm(0, mean = 0, sd = 1.2) where the pnorm-approach is supposed to be faster and with higher precision. I want to integrate a mixed

?Hello everybody, just a few notes to the doxygen X man issue: 1/ AFAIK doxygen can generate man pages, so why don't we just generate them and decide then whether they are ill fitted or usable... 2/ I'd definitely use doxygen when possible; I mean I don't know any alternative that's able to do (at least partial) validation of the documentation with the source 3/ I

Random Nos
R-lings, I know the algo for Laplace generation, but arent there any packages available. Also, i'm trying to check for the Bernoulli sums obey the CLT, but though i calculate 2000 values of S(n)-n*p ---------- sqrt(n*p*(1-p)) for p=.5 and n=45, this fails both KS test and shapiro test. Why?? Thanks sapsi ISI,Delhi please reply to sapsi at bigfoot.com
