Building package compatible w/ R v1.9.1 and R v2.0.0?
Hi, just in the process of updating my packages for R v2.0.0 and I have not had time to followed the R v2.0.0 discussions so maybe my questions have already been answered. A concern I have is that when creating packages they should be backward compatible with R v1.9.x for a while until all users and computers has migrated to R v2.0.x. It is pretty straightforward to setup my packages so that

help with error message
Before I receive a barrage of 'try looking in the help file' messages, I have and to no avail. For a new user of R I would like to point out that in order to be able to use the help files/manuals effectively one must know the correct question and that only comes with using R! Could someone please direct me to why I keep getting the following error message "Error: subscript out of

Final comment from a newbie_and another
I wholeheartedly agree. Maybe in time the list will divide into two whereby 'apparantly' simple questions will be answered without a curt rebuke! I too am now signing off the list and will bury my head in a manual ot two. As a last comment; everyone has to start the learning process somewhere and lets face it, with a deadline looming and what appears to be an insurmaountable question

Strange (non-deterministic) problem with strsplit
I'm having an odd problem with strsplit (well I think it's strplit that's causing the problem). When I run the code below as follows: str(parseFormulaMin(y +x +d ~ b +d +e| a * b)) I expect to get List of 3 $ y: chr "y+x+d" $ x: chr "b+d+e" $ g: chr "a*b" But about half the time I get List of 3 $ y: chr "y+x+d" $ x: chr

allocVector reference
Hi, I'm trying to write a function to return an R vector which points directly to a contiguous subset of another vector, without taking a copy. Since SEXPREC is a header followed by the data, rather than the header plus a pointer to the data, I'm not sure what I'm trying to do is possible. Is there a way of doing this? Similar in spirit to how the R assignment "x=y" does

R programming style
I am aware of one (unofficial) guide to style for R programming: http://www1.maths.lth.se/help/R/RCC/ from Henrik Bengtsson. Can anyone provide further pointers to good style? Views on Bengtsson's ideas would interest me as well. ANOVA help
Hi, I'm doing anova on a matrix of multivariate data where I want to assess the effect of each column (element). My matrix is 86 rows x 31 columns. I've created a grouping factor of length 86 containing group assignments of 6 types. Then I run: x<- aov(matrix~grouping.factor) summary(aov.fit.raw, test="Wilks") This is working fine enough, but I'm getting different

Latex fonts in R graphics
Hello, R users. I am trying to embed Computer modern fonts to an R plot and I get the following error. CM <- Type1Font("CM", + c(paste("cm-lgc/fonts/afm/public/cm-lgc/", + c("fcmr8a.afm", "fcmb8a.afm", "fcmri8a.afm", "fcmbi8a.afm"), sep=""), + "./cmsyase.afm")) > pdf("cm.pdf",

Computer Modern Fonts in R graphic
Hello all, I am trying to use computer modern fonts in my r grahics. I tried to do, as described here: http://www.stat.auckland.ac.nz/~paul/R/CM/CMR.html but unfortunately, it does not work. First of all I downloaded the cm-lgc package and the AFM and PFB-files from the page and put them in my R working directory, so far, so good. Then I tried to run the following code: > sn <-

CM Fonts in PDF output
Hi! On Linux I try to produce pdf graphs with computer modern fonts so that they look nice in LaTeX documents. I run for example: ------ CM <- Type1Font( "CM", c("/usr/share/texmf-texlive/fonts/afm/public/cm-lgc/fcmr8a.afm", "/usr/share/texmf-texlive/fonts/afm/public/cm-lgc/fcmb8a.afm", "/usr/share/texmf-texlive/fonts/afm/public/cm-lgc/fcmri8a.afm",

R-squared value for linear regression passing through origin using lm()
Hi, A have small technical question about the calculation of R-squared using lm(). In a study case with experimental values, it seems more logical to force the regression line to pass through origin with lm(y ~ x +0). However, R-squared values are higher in this case than when I compute the linear regression with lm(y ~ x). It seems to be surprising to me: is this result normal ? Is there

ordinal variables
Dear colleagues, I teach statistics using SPSS. I want to use R instead. I hit on one problem and I need some quick advice. When I want to work with ordinal variables, in SPSS I can compute the median or create a barchart or compute a spearman correlation with no problems. In R, if I "read" the ordinal variable as numeric, then I cannot do a barplot because I miss the category names. If
