PLS regression?
Hi all, I would like to do some QSAR analysis (quantitative structure activity relationship). I need to use some Partial Least Squares (PLS) regression, but I have not seen this option on the R-project. Is it possible to do this kind of regression on R? thank you in advance best regards, olivier [[alternate HTML version deleted]]

Compiling C-code in Windows
Hello ALL! I am an Linux user (Debian testing i386), with very dusty Win-experience. Nevertheless, my colleagues and I are making some package in R, and I built C-routines to speed up things. I followed instruction how to compile C for R (very useful link: http://www.stat.lsa.umich.edu/~yizwang/software/maxLinear/noteonR.html, and links listed there). Everything works like a charm in Linux. I

faraway tutorial: cryptic command to newbie
I am just about working through Faraways excellent tutorial "practical regression and ANOVA using R" on page 24 he makes the x matrix: x <- cbind(1,gala[,-c(1,2)]) how can I understand this gala[,-c(1,2)])... I couldn't find an explanation of such "c-like" abbreviations anywhere. thanks for a hint. another problem: I couldn't load the faraway library, using the

covariance matrix of predictions
Hi ! I am trying to get at the covariance of the predictions of a linear model. Suppose the we have: > x<-runif(1000) > y<-2 + 25x*x +rnorm(1000) > lm1 <-lm(y~x, data = data.frame(y = y, x=x)) > x.pred <-runif(10) > y.hat <- predict(lm1, newdata = data.frame(x=x.pred)) I was wondering how to get an estimate of the covariance of y.hat which would be a 10 x 10

missing include in pnorm.c (PR#575)

Statitics Textbook - any recommendation?
I would like to buy a basic statistics book (experimental design, sampling, ANOVA, regression, etc.) with examples in R. Or download it in PDF or html format. I went to the CRAN contributed documentation, but there were only R textbooks, that is, textbooks where R is the focus, not the statistics. And I would like to find the opposite. Other text I am trying to find is multivariate data

R vs Stata on generalized linear mixed models: glmer and xtmelogit
Hello, I have compared the potentials of R and Stata about GLMM, analysing the dataset 'ohio' in the package 'faraway' (the same dataset is analysed with GEE in the book 'Extending the linear model with R' by Julian Faraway). Basically, I've tried the 2 commands 'glmmPQL' and 'glmer' of R and the command 'xtmelogit' of Stata. If I'm not

How to set read.table variables to vectors?
The summary stats for the xin and yin variables below are correct. However, if I use plot(xin, yin), an exception is thrown saying that "object xin is not found." Also, it is apparent that I can't successfully replace the x and y vectors with values from xin and yin. The four plots on one panel are showing but the range of x and y is only [0,1], and therefore, it seems like an

Faraway's book titled "Practical Regression and Anova using R", with full text available online at: http://cran.r-project.org/doc/contrib/Faraway-PRA.pdf refers to a data set, stat500, which compares midterm and final grades. It can be used to illustrate similar concepts. A google search for faraway.zip will locate the actual data. --- Date: Sun, 15 Feb 2004 10:37:08 -0800
