find_by_content result set
Hi Guys
I''m experiencing with AAF and Ferret with the intention of deploying
into the site that I am working on now.
So I setup AAF to index 3 fields that I have in this model and i tried
doing a find_by_contents and it returned the

adding new items to index breaks searches with *
Hi after upgrading to ferret 0.10.1 and bleeding edge aaf i''m getting
some strange behavior. Generally much better stability with new version
of ferret but when i add new items for some reason i can no longer
search with a *. Or rather i can but it returns no results and no
errors. I can search and get results normally on other searches and when
i rebuild the index i can search with

acts_as_ferret : cannot use a customized Analyzer (as indicated in the AdvancedUsageNotes)
Hi all,
I cannot make aaf (rev. 220) use my custom analyzer, despite following the
indications @
http://projects.jkraemer.net/acts_as_ferret/wiki/AdvancedUsage
To pinpoint the problem, I created a model + a simple analyzer with 2 stop
words : "fax" and "gsm".
test 1 : model.rebuild_index + model.find_by_contents("fax") # fax is a
stop word.

DRb server & aaf gem
I''m having problems getting the DRb server running with the aaf gem.
I tried it with the plugin installed in my application, and it
worked. I suspect the problem has something to do with the startup
scripts expecting certain files to be in certain relative file paths.
Any insights are appreciated, and maybe if you have time you can
update the wiki document :)
Thanks for a great

[AAF] remote indexing via DRb with acts_as_ferret
Hi!
Aaf trunk has undergone several major refactorings the last days, with
the result that you can now transparently switch your app from local
to remote indexing and back :-)
If you plan to scale your app to more than one physical machine, or
if you have problems with corrupted indexes and the like under high
load, you really should give this a try.
I wrote some documentation to get you

usage and benefits of single-index with AAF
The documentation states:
"single_index: set this to true to let this class use a Ferret index
that is shared by all classes having :single_index set to
true. :store_class_name is set to true implicitly, as well as
index_dir, so don?t bother setting these when using this option. the
shared index will be located in index/<RAILS_ENV>/shared ."

counting occurences of words in the result set
Hello, I need to be able to count the occurences of certain terms in the
reults.
Currently my setup is Ferret 0.10.1 aaf bleeding edge.
results = VoObject.find_by_contents(query,:offset=>page, :limit=>
20,:sort => sort_fields)
I use results.total_hits for pagination. This all works really nicely.
However i need to be able to know how many occurences of certain
predefined terms occur

More sorting problems with untokenized index
I''m having problems sorting on untokenized fields. I have one field that
sorts fine, but there are others that seem to sort on a different field.
Here''s the index description:

Sorting/Ordering Search Results
Hello All,
I am having an issue with AAF and sorting results of a search. Right
now, I have results being split onto pages of 10. The results are being
sorted alphabetically, but not across multiple pages - it''s just sorting
the 10 it pulls down on each page. I noticed another post from April
regarding this same issue (http://www.ruby-forum.com/topic/62993#66934)

[AAF] Determine matching field in a search result
I was wondering if it was possible to determine which field caused the
match to occur (or contributed the most to the score) in a search
result.
For example, if I had a record
{ :name => ''pumpkin'', :age => -5, :address => ''Via Mandriola'' }
and I did a search for ''Mandriola'', is it possible for acts_as_ferret to

higlighting problem
Hi,
I''ve been having a problem getting highlighting to work with aaf.
I have a class defined as follows such:
class Link < ActiveRecord::Base
acts_as_ferret :fields => { :description => { :store => :yes } }
end
I get back the correct results when I do Link.find_by_contents, however,
I''d like to highlight them.
If I do something like iterate through the list of

complete index rebuild using AAF trunk
I am using AAF trunk, and I want a way to rebuild an index on a
production site with little or no interruption to service. The Drb
Server documentation* states that when an index is rebuilt, it is
done in a separate location and then swapped into place when
finished, and so to do a complete rebuild on a live site, one must
take into consideration objects which have been created or

Important issue with [AAF] and :select
This is important and may be affecting you if you use :select to
minimize the columns you need on big queries.
If you use :select to define which columns you need and you have not
included all the columns you defined in the :acts_as_ferret field
definitions you''ll clear the content of those fields on the ferret
index. And that may corrupt your index.
So, if you have in your model:

using conditions
Hello guys,
I''m pretty new to using AAF and am having a slight problem with using a
condition. I have the following code
@results = SupplierProduct.find_by_contents(params[:search], :conditions
=> [''area_id = ?'', @area])
and it seems the condition isn''t being applied. Does anyone have any
pointers?
Cheers,
Alastair

acts_as_ferret to search partial phrases and fuzzy
Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone had experience of extending AAF plugin for
Rails to implement a broader query ?
The documentation and the demo provided on the
http://projects.jkraemer.net/acts_as_ferret/ wiki seems to only match
full text queries, or partial when using a * wildcard.
Ideally, I am trying to acheive something similar to the following

problems after gem update
Hi, I had ferret working wonderfully but i am regretting doing a gem
update today.
I had alot of trouble first installing it and was really happy to have
it working. The upgrade was from 0.3.1 to 0.4.0.
The problem is;
in the rails console,
>> @results = Book.find_by_contents("peter pan")
=> #<ActsAsFerret::SearchResults:0x487040c @total_hits=0, @results=[]>

find_by_contents never finds anything on my model
Hi,
Let me preface by saying I am very new to ferret and aaf.
Anyhow, I''m using the aaf plugin on a model named Book. This model isnt
a typical rails model in the fact that it doesnt have an "id" column as
its primary key but instead has a string column named ISBN that is used
as the primary key. When I try to search for anything in the model
using find_by_contents it never
