Sweave resource leak: leftover temp files (PR#7999)
This is great. Thank you for your help, but let me make sure I fully
understand. Here is the looping file I use to subset the data frame,
create a tex file, and Sweave it. This results in N number of tex files
where N is equal to the number of rows in the data frame.
list <- unique(wide$stuid)
master = "master.tex"
for (i in list){
tmp1 <- subset(wide, stuid==i)

Hmisc-xtable label
Dear all:
Does anybody know about label conflicts between xtable and Hmisc? I found a couple of e-mails similar to this problem but is not clear to me how to get around the label problem.
The first table(longtable below) is generated with the latex function from Hmisc but for some reason when I try to hyperlink to it,it takes me to the top of the document. The second table created with the xtable

Lines for plot (Sweave)
Dear List:
I am generating a series of plots iteratively using Sweave. In short, a
dataframe is subsetted row by row and variable graphics are created
conditional on the data in each row. In this particular case, this code
ends up generating 17,000 individual plots.
In some cases, all student data (this is working with student
achievement data) are available and my code below works very well in

longtable and Sweave
Dear Sweave-users,
I want to print listing using sweave. Because my tables are very big, I use
the longtable option. But, is it possible to recall the first line of the
table (e.g the colnames line) on each new page ?
Thanks for your help.

Rearranging long tables, Sweave, xtable, LaTeX
Dear R-users,
consider the two following outputs, ## 1 and ## 2

Fact2)) ## 1
xtable(with(expand.grid(Fact1 = 1:3, Fact2 = 1:40), table(Fact1,

Sweave/LaTeX Problem with EPS PDF
Dear List:
I am unsure if my problem is with Sweave or LaTeX. Anyhow, I am using the MikTeX distribution and TexnicCenter.
I can easily create Sweave files and all goes well until I try to incorporate graphics. I use the same code as found in the examples found in the users manual.
In R, the graphics I want are created as Sweave is creating the .tex file. When I examine the .tex file

Tempfile error
Dear List:
I am encountering an error that I can't resolve. I'm looping through
rows of a dataframe to generate individual tex files using Sweave. At
random points along the way, I encounter the following error
Error in file() : cannot find unused tempfile name
At which point Sweave halts. There isn't a logical pattern that I can
identify in terms of why the program stops at

Selecting a random sample for lmList()
Dear List:
I have a data set with over 7000 students with about 4 observations over time per student. I want to examine the within-group fits of a random sample of this group as it takes forever to compute and draw all 7000 regressions.
Here is the code I have used so far.
>group<-groupedData(math~year|childid, data=scores)
>group.list<-lmList(group)

Multilevel Analyses in R
I am new to R and would like to get some practice analyzing multilevel data. I wonder if anyone can point me to a sample data set and command lines that I might replicate for a sample session. I would then compare my output with HLM output.
Any help is appreciated.

Possible Improvement to sapply
Quite possibly, and I?ll look into that. Aside from the work I was doing, however, I wonder if there is a way such that sapply could avoid the overhead of having to call the identical function to determine the conditional path.

Possible Improvement to sapply
FYI, in R devel (to become 3.5.0), there's isFALSE() which will cut
some corners compared to identical():
> microbenchmark::microbenchmark(identical(FALSE, FALSE), isFALSE(FALSE))
Unit: nanoseconds
expr min lq mean median uq max neval
identical(FALSE, FALSE) 984 1138 1694.13 1218.0 1337.5 13584 100

Sweave & xtable
I am just starting to learn Sweave (really neat tool). I am pretty
early in the learning curve (I had to think a moment ago whether a # or
% was the appropriate comment character).
I have successfully incorporated simple graphics and outputs, but am
having trouble getting a latex (xtable) table to function properly.
Latex is seemingly treating the xtable code as input or verbatim text.

Broken links on CRAN
Dear List:
When I click on the link to download a reference manual for a package on
cran, I get an error message that the file is damaged and could not be
repaired. I randomly chose various packages and the same error message
appears.
Are the links actually broken? I have also restarted my machine and
closed and re-opened acrobat.
I am using Windows XP, Acrobat Professional 6.0.0.5, and

Possible Improvement to sapply
Could your code use vapply instead of sapply? vapply forces you to declare
the type and dimensions
of FUN's output and stops if any call to FUN does not match the
declaration. It can use much less
memory and time than sapply because it fills in the output array as it goes
instead of calling lapply()
and seeing how it could be simplified.

You?re right, it sure does. My suggestion causes it to fail when simplify = ?array?

Adding an Sweave Vignette to a package
I'm finalizing development of a package that will include a vignette.
Without the vignette, the package builds fine with no warnings and is
ready for distribution. Now, I am following the directions for
developing vignettes "Sweave, Part II: Package Vignettes" by Friedrich

I am using a windows XP machine (other session info below). Here is what

xtable and sweave: caption placement problem
Dear All
I am running Sweave with xtable and want to put the caption placement
on top. But this does not work. Any idea what is going wrong?
Here is an example that runs properly with the exception of the
caption placement in the pdf-file.
\documentclass[11pt,a4paper]{article}
\usepackage{Sweave}
\begin{document}

x = runif(100, 1, 10)
y = 2 + 3 * x + rnorm(100)

formatting tables with long column names via package:xtable within Sweave
Hi,
I use the excellent Sweave tools for writing documents
but was wondering how to neatly print a data.frame
with long column headings.
I cant manage to do this via package:xtable.
Typically the labels that I would like use
for each column consist of more than one word,
but even with just one word,
the heading is often wider than the contents of the column.
So the number of columns that fits
