[ActsAsFerret] OpenSolaris (TextDrive) indexing issues
Gents, I successfully installed AAF on my TextDrive OpenSolaris Container, but I''m having some issues with indexing. I have a model called Blogs which has AAF enabled. The first time I tried to find_by_contents for a ''word'' I know was on the Database I got now results. Apparently the index was not ready yet. Then I waited a few hours and checked that the /index

disabling automatic indexing in acts_as_ferret
I''d like to be able to enable/disable the automatic indexing of documents acts_as_ferret does. Something like MyModel.disable_indexing MyModel.enable_indexing would be perfect. I need this because I do some indexing that requires visiting the parents of the model objects and my import method imports the children first, so the information isn''t there yet. I''d like to

Automatic reindexing of associated columns acts_as_taggable
Hi, So i''m trying to use acts_as_taggable with the acts_as_ferret plugin, where I have Post.rb model, which has a method tag_list made available through acts_as_taggable, as returns a string of associated tag words from the tags table (tag.rb). I''ve set up my Post.rb model in the following way. class Post < ActiveRecord::Base acts_as_taggable acts_as_ferret

"tried to use a closed index"
Sorry in advance for the newbie question. Can''t get aaf going and can''t find similarly stuck folks on this forum. I''m running Rails on my local machine in development mode. I installed ferret 0.11.0 gem, and the most recent stable aaf plugin (as of today). I''m having trouble getting the most basic functionality working. In my model Recipe, I have:

stack level too deep for method missing when using drb
I set up ferret and it''s running fine normally. Now I want to hook up the backgroundrb server. However whenever I try to do a search, I get this error: (druby://localhost:9010) /usr/local/lib/ruby/1.8/drb/drb.rb:1075:in `method_missing'' (druby://localhost:9010) ./vendor/plugins/acts_as_ferret/lib/remote_index.rb:20:in `find_id_by_contents'' (druby://localhost:9010)

Getting "ArgumentError ( isn''t a valid directory argument.
I''m hoping someone has encountered this before. I''m using AAF trunk and trying to multi_search across 2 models. It works fine on my windows (Webricks) dev env but now that i''ve deployed to linux, (Apache, FastCGI) I''m getting the following error: ArgumentError ( isn''t a valid directory argument. You should use either a String or a Directory):

QueryParser Exception Handling Problem
According to the following link: http://ferret.davebalmain.com/api/classes/Ferret/QueryParser.html :handle_parser_errors => true is enabled by default and seems to be in acts_as_ferret in class_methods.rb of the plugin. However, when I pass a special character as a query (e.g., !, -, <, >, etc) it throws an error and pukes. -- snip -- Error occured in src/q_parser.y:279 - yyerror

acts_as_ferret to search partial phrases and fuzzy
Hi All, I was wondering if anyone had experience of extending AAF plugin for Rails to implement a broader query ? The documentation and the demo provided on the http://projects.jkraemer.net/acts_as_ferret/ wiki seems to only match full text queries, or partial when using a * wildcard. Ideally, I am trying to acheive something similar to the following (pseudo code): def search @query

Is aaf multi_search broken?
Hi all, I want to use acts_as_ferret''s multi_search to search two model classes (Reviewable and Blog) at a time like @results = Reviewable.multi_search("jemen", [Blog]) and I''m always getting the error You have a nil object when you didn''t expect it! You might have expected an instance of Array. The error occurred while evaluating nil.map

Questions about table association while using acts_as_ferret
Hi all, I''m quite new to ferret and acts_as_ferret and what to see if I can implement the following requirement using them. Suppose I have two model classes: Article and Comment. It''s obvious that one article may have many comments, so this is a one-many relationship. If I want to add full text search to these models, I''m supposed to use acts_as_ferret in both of the

Update/Create record only if field is true
I have a sellable flag in my database. I''m trying to have ferret only add/update records where sellable == true. What is the best way to do this? I''ve tried editing instance_methods.rb in the AAF, but I still can''t get it to work. Thanks for the help -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Is anyone successfully using acts_as_ferret with Ferret 0.11.4?
Hi all, I upgraded from Ferret 0.11.3 to Ferret 0.11.4 because I was getting intermittent segfaults that seemed to be due to a bug which was fixed (changeset 749). Unfortunately, 0.11.4 + acts_as_ferret seems to be a bad combination. I''m getting the some "fs_store/File Not Found Error occured at <except.c>:117" which was reported in the "Constant 0.11.4

problems after gem update
Hi, I had ferret working wonderfully but i am regretting doing a gem update today. I had alot of trouble first installing it and was really happy to have it working. The upgrade was from 0.3.1 to 0.4.0. The problem is; in the rails console, >> @results = Book.find_by_contents("peter pan") => #<ActsAsFerret::SearchResults:0x487040c @total_hits=0, @results=[]> Its indexing

[AAF] acts_as_ferret 0.4.0 released
Hi folks! Just wanted to let you know that I released aaf 0.4.0 on last weekend. Besides the DRb server it also includes a new lazy loading feature that lets you do ferret searches without actually loading any records from the DB. Useful e.g. for live searches: model: class MyModel acts_as_ferret :fields => { :title => { :store => :yes }, :content => {} } end controller:
