Using a cgi perl program?
I have a cgi/perl program that I want to use on the same server as my
RoR app and I keep getting:
The page you were looking for doesn''t exist.
You may have mistyped the address or the page may have moved.
I load the program to the cgi-bin directory in its own folder /cgi-bin/

Authentication between Instiki and Mailman Solved!
Basically, we needed to authenticate against the cookie written by Ruby.
It turns out that you can write a cookie for the entire TLD of
*.example.com from Instiki (Rails). So, I changed the cookie writing
code in the wiki_controller to the following.
# app/controllers/wiki_controller.rb
cookies[''ldap_username_2006''] = {:value =>emailaddress,

Rewrite problem or routing issue?
I''m not able to access anything in public, everything seems to be going
through the rails router. As a result, I can''t get to stylesheets or
javascript.
I''m not quite clear if this is a .htaccess problem, or a router problem.
I eliminated the "catchall" route, so the last route is
map.connect '':controller/:action/:id''

RoR&Apache - htaccess rewrite directories fail?
On my server I have a directory at the root, /rails/ which contains

FastCGI in Shared Hosting - What To Do?
Hello Campers!
I am working on Site5, trying to get a working Camping application
running. Unfortunately, my sole option in terms of deployment is FastCGI.
I have no access to sudo so I cannot create ScriptAliases.
I''ve taken the Camping Short Short Example and uploaded it, along with a
dispatch.fcgi and an .htaccess file.
My question is - given the state of Camping development right

Can''t set up rails: dispatch.cgi failed
Hi,
I''m trying to setup RoR on OpenBSD 3.9 with Ruby 1.8.4 and Apache 1.3.
I''ve setup Rails to run as a Virtual Host, and I can view the "Welcome

get an "Application error...Rails application failed to start properly"
message. Apache.log has this error:

Trailing Slash Problems with Deployment on Shared Hosting Using SymLinks
Hi,
I''ve been trying to deploy a simple Rails app for a friend on a shared
hosting account. I was able to get the Rails application running, but
the URL need to end in a slash or else it would result in a 400 Bad

on the exact same error (http://wiki.rubyonrails.com/rails/show/Non

How to provide Rails hosting on Apache/FastCGI enviroment?
Hi, folks.
I am running a small Web Hosting service personally.
I hope to provide rails service on apache/fcgi to my hosting
users. So, I''ve been testing to setup rails application, and
there was no problem. But with Rails version 0.10.0 release,
previous way doesn''t work.
Following is a scenario which worked well before, but now beats me.

RewriteRule to strip www. ?
I''m trying to add a RewriteRule to my .htaccess to remove the www.
prefix from requests. The following works on its own:
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} www.mysite.com
RewriteRule (.*) http://mysite.com/$1
But it blows up when I try to add it to my .htaccess file. I''ve tried
moving it around, before and after the various Rails-specific rules, but
I can''t get it to work.

Resolved problem with Apache Load Balancer Manager
Had to make a couple of changes to the config from the mongrel site to get
the load balancer manager working:
changed
# Redirect all non-static requests to cluster
RewriteCond %{DOCUMENT_ROOT}/%{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteRule ^/(.*)$ balancer://mongrel_cluster%{REQUEST_URI} [P,QSA,L]
to
# Redirect all non-static requests to cluster
RewriteCond %{DOCUMENT_ROOT}/%{REQUEST_FILENAME}

Apache 2.2, Mongrel and #caches_page
Hi !
I''m no expect when it comes time to configure Apache. I just enabled
page caching in my Rails app, and am now looking at making Apache
serve the cached files instead of calling into Rails.
I know Mongrel is able to serve cached files if it finds them, but I''d
like Apache to do it.
Looking at .htaccess, there is this section:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^$ index.html
