problem reading Matlab file into R
Hi,
I'm trying to read a .mat file into R (2.11.1) with medium success so far. The file I have is a MATLAB 5.0 MAT-file exported from RiverSurveyor LIVE software (http://www.sontek.com/software.php). I have R.matlab and Rcompression installed and readMat() starts reading the file, as can be seen in verbose mode (hence medium success), but then gives the following error:

[UNCLASSIFIED] predict.survreg() with frailty term and newdata
Dear All,
I am attempting to make predictions based on a survreg() model with some censoring and a frailty term, as below: predict works fine on the original data, but not if I specify newdata.
# a model with groups as fixed effect
model1 <- survreg(Surv(y,cens)~ x1 + x2 + groups,
dist = "gaussian")
# and with groups as a random effect
fr <- frailty(groups,

Break [SEC=UNCLASSIFIED]
Hi,
You can exit out of the 'identify()' routine by either:
right-click > 'stop'
Or
click on 'stop > stop locator' in the top-left of the plot window.
The script should continue with line1, line2 etc.

Passing single precision arrays to legacy code
System: Fedora Core 5
R: 2.2.1 and 2.4.1, complied from source
gcc: 4.1.1
I'm trying to pass a single precision array to some legacy code. I
ultimately got the code working by ignoring part of the help
documentation. The code is actually in Fortran, but the following C
program illustrates the problem:
$ cat foo.c
#include <stdio.h>
void
foo(float *t) {
int *bar;

PAM authentication fails
Hi,
I'm fighting all weekend on with auth and pam to authenticate local
system users. testuser is such local user and is in passwd and shadow. I
want to have local system users (testuser is one of them) and virtual
users. The virtual part works fine but I cannot get the local user to
connect.
Still pam fails finding the user. The suggested password mismatch at the
end is, in my eyes,

openssh 2.9p1 on Solaris 2.6 with AFS
Jan,
maybe I should check the /afs information that you pointed me at
in a subsequent email first, but I wanted to update you on what
happened following this path:
I did get some mileage out of both of your suggestions below,
but still did not make it through (now working with openssh-2.9p2):
gcc -o ssh ssh.o sshconnect.o sshconnect1.o sshconnect2.o sshtty.o
readconf.o clientloop.o -L.

segmentation fault with GCC 3.0.2
I have now tested R 1.3.1 compiled with GCC 3.0.2 on Solaris and the example I
previously posted (repeated below) still gives a segmentation fault, as it does
with GCC 3.0.1 but not with 2.95.2. The eigen calculation sometimes needs to be
repeated several times before the segmentation fault occurs. La.eigen does not
cause a problem. (The problem occurred with R-devel too, but I have not tested
