help on model selection - step()
dears R-users, I'm interested in model selection problem, and i have faced some problems that i would like to ask for help. well, this is a very small example with 4 variable (just one var. is the response - z) with 100 individuals i would like to do a stepwise search, for the "best" model, and a use BIC criteria. I know when I have a lot of variables, let's say 120, I know,

problem subsetting data frame with variable instead of constant
Hello, I've encountered a very weird issue with the method subset(), or maybe this is something I don't know about said method that when you're subsetting based on the columns of a data frame you can only use constants (0.1, 2.3, 2.2) instead of variables? Here's a look at my data frame called 'ea.cad.pwr': *>ea.ca.pwr[1:5,] MAF OR POWER 1 0.02 0.01 0.9999 2 0.02

NaN causes "error in fitter" with cph.calibrate from pkg Design
I have been attempting to use cph models to get better calibration of my models for which I had originally used logistic regression. I tried running with 40 repetitions and got an error. I then tried 500 repetitions (thinking that the NaNs in the output below might be caused by that choice) and then let my computer crunch for several hours and got only the same error message and

pls -- crossval vs plsr(..., CV=TRUE)
Hi, Newbie question about the pls package. Setup: Mac OS 10.3.9 R: Aqua GUI 1.01, v 2.0.1 I want to get R^2 and Q^2 (LOO and Leave-10-Out) values for each component for my model. I was running into a few problems so I played with the example a little and the results do not match up with the comments in the help pages. $ library(pls) $ data(NIR) $ testing.plsNOCV <- plsr(y ~ X, 6, data =

shapiro wilk normality test
Hi everybody, somehow i dont get the shapiro wilk test for normality. i just can?t find what the H0 is . i tried : shapiro.test(rnorm(5000)) Shapiro-Wilk normality test data: rnorm(5000) W = 0.9997, p-value = 0.6205 If normality is the H0, the test says it?s probably not normal, doesn ?t it ? 5000 is the biggest n allowed by the test... are there any other test ? ( i know qqnorm

gamm
Hello, I am a bit confused about gamm in mgcv. Consulting Wood (2006) or Ruppert et al. (2003) hasn't taken away my confusion. In this code from the gamm help file: b2<-gamm(y~s(x0)+s(x1)+s(x2)+s(x3),family=poisson,random=list(fac=~1)) Am I correct in assuming that we have a random intercept here....but that the amount of smoothing is also changing per level of the

NUT 2.8.0-7 Can't claim USB device [2341:8036]@2/0: Invalid parameter using usbhid-ups
Hi, you need a newer version of NUT. I was doing a similar project with that library and NUT needed some PRs to get it work. IIRC, v2.8.2 has everything needed. One-Click Ruby Installer 186-26 Final Release
This updates Ruby to 1.8.6 patch level 111 (lots of bug fixes since 1.8.6 was released). It also updates most of the included extensions to their latest versions (see the change log), and adds FastCGI and ruby-fcgi support. These two new extensions allow you run your Rails application under IIS7! I''d like to thank Luis Lavena for taking charge of the One-Click Ruby Installer project and

HELP - four.nines.cartesian.probability.grid
My routine (below) works OK but misbehaves if the on-screen plot is made wider using the mouse. The problem is caused by using par("usr")[1] - 0.07 * (par("usr")[2] - par("usr")[1]) to locate two items on the y-axis. The rest of the labeling is controlled by the "line=0" parameter setting. Of course resizing changes the absolute plot width, and

One-Click Ruby Installer 186-26 Release Candidate 1
This updates Ruby to 1.8.6 patch level 111 (lots of bug fixes since 1.8.6 was released). It also updates most of the included extensions to their latest versions (see the change log). The final release won''t happen until after RubyGems 0.9.5 is released (which should be any day now) because we want the latest RubyGems version to be included. However, we''re putting out this

Is SQL Server not supported in RoR on the Mac?
Hi -- I''ve been having problems connecting to a SQL Server database that I thought might be related to the fact I was upgrading Rails to 2.0. However, I also was moving the project to my shiny new macbook. Anyway, after jumping through a few hoops (instaling DBI, etc.), I finally get to my latest error message: <error> DBI::InterfaceError: Could not load driver (no such file to

Problem with <= (less than or equal): not giving the expected result
Dear All, I have the following problem: I have a function in which I check if the difference between values is smaller or equal to a certain threshold. I however realized that I might get there some unexpected results: > abs(1 - 0.95) >= 0.05 [1] TRUE ## So that?s fine, but: > abs(1 - 0.95) <= 0.05 [1] FALSE Apparently, abs(1 - 0.95) is not equal to 0.05, which I find however quite

[xen-unstable] Commit 2ca9fbd739b8a72b16dd790d0fff7b75f5488fb8 AMD IOMMU: allocate IRTE entries instead of using a static mapping, makes dom0 boot process stall several times.
Hi Jan, After commit 2ca9fbd739b8a72b16dd790d0fff7b75f5488fb8 AMD IOMMU: allocate IRTE entries instead of using a static mapping, booting dom0 stalls several times. Sometimes this results in RCU stall warnings from the dom0 kernel, hitting the "any" key, on normal or serial console, makes the boot continue for a while but it stalls several times. (It also stalls on shutdown BTW) I have
