Index location for multiple servers
I have a rails app that is going to be deployed across several servers.
In my understanding of acts_as_ferret, the index files are kept in the
index folder in the root of the rails app. This won''t work for multiple
servers, of course, since all the servers will have their own directory
tree.
How are people using ferret for apps deployed on multiple servers?
Could I run the index files

Search result inconsistencies due to indexing
I seem to be having problems with getting my searcher to be consistent
while indexing. I am running the latest version of ferret (0.10.13) and
I am using the Searchable plugin. Currently the way it indexes is by
using a callback in the model of either after_update or after_create to
index the fields that I have setup to be indexed.
Right now I update the index about once every 4 or 5

FieldQuery not returning anything
Hey ..
The QueryParser RDoc page explains to me on how to search for a specific
value in a specific field. This is not working the way i thought it
should be, what am i doing wrong? Here''s an example ..
I''m storing model data in the index like this:
doc << Field.new( "object_id", object.id, Field::Store::YES)
doc << Field.new( "type",

Announcement: Indexed Search Engine 0.1.2 Available
Hello all.
Apologies... I was a little too eager in my earlier annoucement about
the Indexed Search Engine for Rails apps. The DB migration file
contained an error that had to be worked around. I''ve fixed that,
added more (and clearer) documentation, and a sample application. You
can find most everything you want to know about Indexed Search Engine

How index works!
Hi, i''ve a project in wich i have 2 different rails apps accessing the
same DB.
The backoffice, as usual, changes data.
The frontoffice has a search capabilities with acts_as_ferret
(paginated) for search.
Maybe this is a newbie question but, when i delete index and restart
front app all the articles are indexed, but the new one''s (via
backoffice) are not searchable.

Automatic reindexing of associated columns acts_as_taggable
Hi,
So i''m trying to use acts_as_taggable with the acts_as_ferret plugin,
where I have Post.rb model, which has a method tag_list made available
through acts_as_taggable, as returns a string of associated tag words
from the tags table (tag.rb). I''ve set up my Post.rb model in the
following way.
class Post < ActiveRecord::Base
acts_as_taggable

making acts_as_ferret thread safe?
Hi
I get a synchronize error (see below) when I run a lib script with
script/runner.
The script updates a status field in a model object that is indexed and
searchable within the script/server (mongrel) process.
$ script/runner -e production ''load "lib/billing/credit_subscribers.rb"''

index browser inconsistent with IndexReader
Hi,
We have an index of around 1M web pages as part of our web app. The
app uses ferret by way of RDig to perform searches. We have noticed
anecdotally that some searches don''t work the way we thought they
should, as if documents were missing from the index. Yesterday we
came upon a concrete instance of this.
Our documents have several fields, one of which is called :keywords

Automatically Indexing Associated Models
PROBLEM
I have two models, Blog and BlogComment. When a blog is initially
created, it has no comments. Upon creation, the title and body are
automatically added to the ferret index and directly searchable.
However, when a comment is added to a blog, that comment does not get
added to the index and is therefore not ferretable. The desired behavior
is that when a comment is added to a blog, that the

synonyms
Hi,
Using ferret and acts_as_ferret.
Great work.
Is there a way to define some synonyms (searchable words that would not
appear in the texts ?
Like stop words, but instead of being removed from query and index,
they would be added ;-)
Can some synonyms be regexp ? I''d like for instance to have ? (oelig)
be equivalent to oe in French.
Or maybe an utf8 normalization could achieve

preventing indexing of an acts_as_ferret''d model?
Hi, this is hopefully an easy one, but I''ve gone through the api and searched
past forum entries, and am drawing a blank.
I have a model that with acts_as_ferret mixed in to it, which is working fine.
But I want users to be able to set a ''private'' attribute on the model, and when
it''s set to true, create and update methods would skip indexing. So, how can I

Tokenizers?
Hi everyone. First a quick word - I am relatively new to Ruby and Ruby
on Rails, but I love learning about it and using it. Currently I am
working on extending Boxroom (file repository RoR app) for the CARE
Indonsia intranet, where I work as an intern. I am using ferret, and
it''s working great.
I noticed that if a file contains something like this
"applications/entries", this

Several questions about Ferret.
Hi.
First of all I would like to say "thank you" to David for its really
valuable work. Ferret is a great project and it have great future.
Well now is my questions as beginner in Ferret.
How to remove ALL documents from index. Remove files is not a solution. I am
interesting in something like
index.remove_index or something like this. What is a usual way of doing it??

crash on repeated search
I have found another crash in ferret; this one just uses a regular
search. It''s similar to an issue reported by Matt Schnitz a while ago,
but unlike his, mine does not go away if I turn off omit_norms. It does
go away if I turn on the garbage collector more often, but I''m not sure
that''s a stable workaround under the circumstances.
This one isn''t a

Searchable Archives of this list
Is there a searchable archive of this list? Did I overlook something
obvious? I can find the archives, but short of downloading all the
monthly gzips and building my own searchable database, it seems my
only other option is to go month by month looking at subjects and
hope to stumble on what I'm after.
Does anyone maintain a public searchable version of the archives?

Ferret DRB - can add/edit index, but can''t search
I''m trying to use the Ferret DRB server to avoid concurrency issues when
using multiple mongrels. I can successfully add and edit data on my

Segmentation fault on large index
I''m getting a segmentation fault on a large index (15GB). I''m running
ferret 0.11.4 on OpenSuSE 10.2 with ruby 1.8.6. The segmentation
fault appeared after I optimized the index, see further below for the
error message I got before that. Ferret works perfectly on other (smaller)
indexes.
Is this a known issue, and if so, is there a workaround?

Single method call to retrieve the entire page in HTML?
All,
Another easy question. In Hpricot, on a doc that I am using, I can do a
.to_html method and retrieve the entire page. However, this doesn''t seem to
work in Mechanize.
My goal is to the text of the page and put it into a database to make it
searchable with ferret (using the acts_as_ferret plugin in Rails). Does
anyone have a good suggestion short of iterating over the entire
