Another big data size problem
Hi all, I'm trying to read a 1220 * 20000 table in R but I'm having lot of problems. Basically what it happens is that R.bin starts eating all my memory until it gets about 90%. At that point it locks itself in a uninterruptible sleep status (at least that's what top says) where it just sits there barely using the cpu at all but keeping its tons of memory. I've tried with

RMySQL problem - SOLVED
Hi, The problem was the row.names that were sent to the database and created an primary key duplicate. Now it works fine. BTW congratulations for the package. It copied 15300 rows by 11 columns in less than 5 seconds, in my PIII 833 with 1 GB RAM. > system.time(dbWriteTable(con, "TBL_SIMDATA", TBL.SIMDATA, append = TRUE, row.names=F)) [1] 3.87 0.05 4.86 0.01 0.00 Just one

Negative intercept in glm poisson model
Dear list, I'm trying to fit a glm model using family=poisson(link = "identity"). The problem is that the glm function fits a model with a negative intercept, which sounds like a nonsense to me, being the response a Poisson variable. >From a previous discussion on this list I've understood that the glm function uses IRLS for the fitting without any constraint so it is

Testing for normality of residuals in a regression model
Hi all, Is it possible to have a test value for assessing the normality of residuals from a linear regression model, instead of simply relying on qqplots? I've tried to use fitdistr to try and fit the residuals with a normal distribution, but fitdsitr only returns the parameters of the distribution and the standard errors, not the p-value. Am I missing something? Cheers, Federico

Segmentation fault with fix() (PR#6605)
Full_Name: Federico Gherardini Version: 1.8.1 OS: Gentoo linux Submission from: (NULL) (81.208.36.89) When I use fix() to edit a matrix R immediately quits with a segmentation fault if I use the copy button in the graphical device window. Clicking on the name of the variables completely messes up the screen too. In this case you have to close the grahpic device and call fix() again. I've

rearranging data frame rows
Hi All, I have two data frames. The first contains data about a number of individuals, coded in the first column with a name, in an order I find convenient. The second contains different data about the same indivduals, in a different order. Both data frame have the individual names in the first column. I need to reorder the second data frame so the rows are rearranged in the same manner as

predicting memory usage
Hi All, is there a way of predicting memory usage? I need to build an array of 86000 by 2500 numbers (or I might create a list of 2 by 2500 arrays 43000 long). How much memory should I expect to use/need? Cheers, Fede -- Federico C. F. unlist
Hi I have a list with several data.frames, all with the same number of colunms but different number of rows, and I'd like to transform this list into a single dataframe. I need to mimic an rbind of all dataframes ... Transform doesn't seem to work :-( Thanks EJ -- Ernesto Jardim <ernesto at ipimar.pt> Bi?logo Marinho/Marine Biologist IPIMAR - Instituto Nacional de Investiga??o

putting stuff into bins...
Hi All, I have a vector of data, a vector of bin breakpoints and I want to put my data in the bins and then extract fanciful informations like the mean value of each bin. I know I can write my own function, but I would have thought that R should have somewhere a function that took as arguments something like (data, breaks, what to do with the data in the bins). I surey could not find it

memory problems
Hi I'm computing a bca interval using bca.ci from the boot package. When I try to use this I get an error > library(boot) > boot(logglm.data,boot.fishpower,2500,coef.vec=coeflm.vec)->blm8901 > bca.ci(blm8901,index=29) Error: cannot allocate vector of size 456729 Kb However my machine has 2GB of memory and without R running I only have 112M of memory used. NEdit Highligth patterns for R
Hi I've just submitted to the NEdit development team a R highligth patterns for NEdit (www.nedit.org). NEdit is a text editor for LINUX which I use to write small R functions. In my opinion is a very good tool for small scripts, maybe for huge projects is not the best. I'm attaching the R-5.1.pats file so you can try it. As usual contributions and comments are welcome.
