Testing transactional updates in story runner
How do you guys test transactional updates with story runner? I have an action that needs to update four different models: Enrollment.transaction do @contact.update_addresses(params[:contact_address], params [:billing_address]) @enrollment.update_attributes!(params[:enrollment]) end The last update_attributes! will raise ActiveRecord::RecordNotValid if anything was

Failing to raise an exception in a stub
I''ve come across rather strange behaviour when trying to raise an exception in a stubbed method. I''m speccing the behaviour of a Rails create action, where I''m using save! to catch failed saves. In the case of working save, I''m using the following stub: @client.stub!(:save!).and_return(true) which works fine. However, in the negative case,

Problems when using sweepers with postbacks
I''m using a cache sweeper class [1] to take care of some pretty complex sweeping. However, there is a problem with the current implementation. Namely, the sweeper gets called only when an action named in cache_sweeper is called using GET. As many methods where sweeper would be useful are using postback to send the form to the same action, this causes the cache to get swept when

Spec slowdown
Is there something currently going on on the rspec trunk that causes a massive slowdown when running rake spec and autotest (without spec_server)? I updated to the latest trunk yesterday and the time needed to run the specs of my app jumped from ~20 seconds to more than a minute. The weird thing is that if I run the rake spec tasks separately (controllers, models, views, helpers), they

RE: question about rails regarding handling more than onetable in one view
Hi, Jarkko: Thanks for the quick reply. I understand I can use ActiveRecord to specify the relation between the table as you have suggested, The part that I have trouble to understand is 1. Since I have a third table ProvWorkAtDept, do I need to specify this table somewhere when I define Provider or Dept? 2. If the provider view has both the provider name and several depts the provider

DevLists :: Mailing lists made easy
I have tried various mail clients to read the Rails mailing list for the past 12 months. As the list volume grew, it became utterly impossible to browse through the new messages and very hard to locate the useful gems I had previously found. After subscribing to a few more lists, I realized that there had to be a better way. I could not find anything to meet my needs, so I designed

The type of figure I would like to produce in each segment of the plot appears below the code. library(reserving) # http://toolkit.pbwiki.com/RToolkit <http://toolkit.pbwiki.com/RToolkit> data(GenIns) GenInsInc <- incrementalTriangle(GenIns)

Jitter in correlation matrix?
Hi, I am just starting to use R for a graduate course, and I like how the correlation matrix at http://addictedtor.free.fr/graphiques/RGraphGallery.php?graph=137 I did something similar by copying from the examples(pairs), but it seems that I need to jitter the bottom panel... and I have no idea how to do that, and I mean no idea at all. I'd appreciate any help... Here are the graphs:

Riding the Rails to acquisition
Guys, I think many of us on this list would consider ourselves entrepreneurs. I''m willing to bet at least 40% of you are working on ideas for startups...hoping that you just might have the next Flickr, Oddpost, del.icio.us, etc. Me too, for what it''s worth. Rails is good for this, in that it enables you to move quickly (after the learning curve) and it''s

dotnet20 on ubuntu 8.10
Howdy Howdy, I am trying to run Razor and RunUO on my Intrepid Ibex box, but am struggling. I am using 64 bit and wine 1.1.13. Specifically, I cannot get dotnet11 or dotnet20 to work (via winetricks). Any hints? I've tried various walk-throughs and read posts by the dozens, all without success. This is what it states: > Setting Windows version to win2k > Executing wine regedit
