Help to multinomial analyses
Dear Sirs,
Could you please be so kind as to send us some information on residuals in
multinomial logistic models? Is it possible to use R software?
We thank you in advance.
Sincerely yours

t-test bootstrap versus permutation question
Hi,
I have a little problem that puzzles me about contradictory results returned
by a bootstraped t-test (as in MASS 3rd ed p. 146) versus a permutation
t-test (as in MASS 3rd ed, p 147).
Data are measurements done on 100 cells in 9 slides of fish blood. With one
method, cells are randomly sampled, and with the other method, the operator
selects cells arbitrarily (in a way it is done usually

Replacing text
Sorry, another newbie question :-(
I loaded a data set with 10 rows and 30 columns. The first column is
characters for names of car manufacturers:
Jeep
Nissan
Toyota1
Toyota2
Etc.
How can I replace "Toyota2" with "Scion"?
Thanks again

Confidence Intervals from Bootstrap Replications
Hi All:
I have to compute bootstrap confidence intervals, the statistic
(incremental cost effectiveness ratio) is computed from two samples
(intervention and control) of different sizes. All the bootstrap
functions that I have seen use one dataset as argument. I may go ahead
and get the desired number of bootstrap replications separately. I would
appreciate if you could point me to a source of a

ilbc and asterisk 1.0.3 - strange noises.
Have someone experienced any strange noises using the ilbc codec
after upgrading to asterisk 1.0.3?
I had to change the codec do gsm to fix this problem. The noise is very
loud, like saturation of the echo ro something, seems like the echo
cancelation is amplifying itself.
I'be been using ilbs since asterisl 0.70 and have never had any
problem like this.
Thanks.

Bootstrapping on R
Does R have a bootstrap command like SPlus, or do we have to form our
own code if we want to do bootstrapping in R?

Re:Problems in Dead Gateway Detection / Failover - MultipleISP Links
Hi There,
I am also trying to do the same for my network.
I have two links from different ISPs and I want to configure a failover and
load balancing Linux router.
I am facing same problem here, that how to detect link failure and let Linux
box switch the gateway.
I know it works when the first gateway is physically down and not reachable.
But what to do if my link is up but there is problem

coxph and ordinal variables?
Dear R-help members,
Apologies - I am posting on behalf of a colleague, who is a little puzzled
as STATA and R seem to be yielding different survival estimates for the same
dataset when treating a variable as ordinal. Ordered() is used to represent
an ordinal variable) I understand that R's coxph (by default) uses the Efron
approximation, whereas STATA uses (by default) the Breslow. but we

pppoe question
Hi THere,
sorry if this is a stupid question or does not belong to this forum.
I''ve set my DEFROUTE=no in my ifcfg-ppp0 and when I bring the ppp0
up, it deletes my old default load balance routes which I do not want,
as I just want the interface to be up, but not touching my default
routes
any advice

Cox model approximaions (was "comparing SAS and R survival....)
For time scale that are truly discrete Cox proposed the "exact partial
likelihood". I call that the "exact" method and SAS calls it the
"discrete" method. What we compute is precisely the same, however they
use a clever algorithm which is faster. To make things even more
confusing, Prentice introduced an "exact marginal likelihood" which is

Schoenfeld Residuals with tied data
Dear all,
I am struggling with calculation of Schoenfeld residuals of my Cox Ph
models.
Based on the formula as attached, I calculated the Schoenfeld residuals for
both non tied and tied data, respectively.
And then I validated my results with R using the same data sets. However, I
found that my results for non-tied data was ok but the results for tied data
were different from R's.

Efron's locfdr package - a component missing
Hello:
Could you possibly help me.
In Efron's 2004 paper "Selection and Estimation ..."
it was mentioned that so-called effect density estimate, denoted by g1(mu)
was included in the locfdr package. However, I can't find it in the
description
of the package. Any suggestions?
Sincerely,

LARS for generalized linear models
Hi,
Is there an R implementation of least angle regression for binary response
modeling? I know that this question has been asked before, and I am also
aware of the "lasso2" package, but that only implements an L1 penalty, i.e.
the Lasso approach.
Madigan and Ridgeway in their discussion of Efron et al (2004) describe a
LARS-type algorithm for generalized linear models. Has
