Best way to compute the difference between two levels of a factor ?
Dear R-help Members,
I am wondering if anyone think of the optimal way of computing for
several numeric variable the difference between 2 levels of a factor.
To be clear let's generate a simple data frame with 2 numeric variables
collected for different subjects (ID) and 2 levels of a TIME factor
(time of evaluation)

Automatically fix big jumps in one variable due to anomalies
Hi,
I am attaching a plot where you can see there are a few "jumps" (plots 1, 4,
5 and 6), due to incidents with the measuring sensors (basically someone
touching the sensor). I need to revert those changes to have a plot without
unreal measurements, so make those fragments go back to its original pattern
before the jump.
I have used the function cpt.mean {changepoints} so I can

Which hist cell each value falls in?
Hi, all. I'm using hist() to obtain a vector of break values in an interval.
I then want to be able to identify which cell any value from another vector
falls in.
E.g. applying

add only selected labels using thigmophobe
hi,
I am trying to label data points within a scatter plot using thigmophobe.
While the data set consists of about 3000 points I only would like to label
a subset of these points.
I read the x and y coordinates in from a txt file and define them as:
MLPM1<-log2(Ratio.M.L.G2.PM)
HLG2<-log2(Ratio.H.L..G2.PM)
the names and a corresponding ID are read in from the same txt file as:

if function problems
Dear All,
Sorry to bother
I want to write a function in R using if
Say I have a dataset x,
if x[i]<0, then x[i]=x[i],
if x[i]>0, then x[i]=0
for example, x=-3:3,
then using the function, x becomes [-3,-2,-1,0,0,0,0]
I write the codes as follows,
gjr=function(x)
{lena=length(x)
for(i in 1:lenx)
if (x[i]<0) return (x[i])
if (x[i]>0) return (0)
x}
but then, doing
gjr(x?
it only

How to avoid overlapping labels
Hi Remko,
thanks for your answer. but i do
not really understand how to use the commands.
if i want to use thigmophobe.labels(x,y,) do i need to identify the xy
coordinates for each point first and then manually move every point? and if
i neet to do so how to use the identify() function?
or is there any possibility to automatically place the labels in the best
position?

Colour-coding intervals on a line
Hi,
This is a simple version of something that I am trying to do. If I can
sort the problem basically, I figure I should be able to sort it for the
program I'm writing (which would take longer to explain).
I need to know if there is any way of using different colours for
different intervals of a line on a graph. Eg. If I plot the line y=x for
x=1:10, and split this line into 106 intervals

labels for 3d Plots
High!
How can I add variable labels (rownames for instance) to a plot created
with ‚clouds’ ( clouds(dim3~dim1*dim2)) – package lattice?
Thanks in advance!

how to get growth rate of a (time series) data?
Hello all, now I'm trying to switch from Excel to R to deal with the data,
and as a newbie i got the problem as follows.
suppose I have a data named "test"
test<- data.frame(year=c(1996:2011),
Y=c(74163.6,81658.5,86531.6,91125.0,98749.0,109028.0,120475.6,136613.4,160956.6,187423.5,222712.5,266599.2,315974.6,348775.1,402816.5,465731.3))

legend(): adjust space between symbol and tex
Hello,
I'd like to ask, how to adjust the space between symbol/line and text in a
legend. My legend() is build like that
legend(xmax-netzdiff/11, # shouldn't matter here
ifelse(ydiff>=0, #
ymin-6.5*(netzdiff/11), #
ymax-netzdiff/11), #

[GSoC 2017] Clang-based diff tool project
Hello,
I am currently studying Computer Science at TU Eindhoven. I am doing a
course that involves programming assignments on parts of LLVM such as
lowering, scheduling and optimization. For this year's Google Summer of
Code I plan to submit a proposal to implement a clang-based diff tool
[1].
I think it really pays off to have decent developer tools available, as
they can save tons of time.

values in between
Hey there
I have two vectors:
y<- c(0.4, 0.0, 0.2, -0.2, -0.6, 0.2, 0.0, 0.0, 0.4, 0.4, 0.2)
In the vector y, I want to access (in the order given) all of the values in
between each of the specific values of given.
I understand subsetting with y[i], but how do I get to ssomewhere in
between -0.6 and 0.2?
Thanks

help with formula and data= argument
Sorry for posting this twice, but I still have not solved this problem
and am hoping for some assistance.
I am attempting to write a function that is flexible enough to respond
to the user providing a formula (with a data= argument) or not (similar
to plot(x,y) versus plot(y~x,data=data)). I have found a method to work
with this in a simple case but am having trouble determining how to

Stting non-overlaping text positions
Dear List
I am having problems to set text labels in a scatter plot. At some areas dots
are close and labels overlap and texts cannot be read. I have too many dots
to adjust this manually. Is there any function that will calculate the label
offsets to avoid this overlapping problem?
Thanks

List of occuring values
Dear all,
ftable produces a list of the frequencies of all occuring values.
But how about the occuring values?
How can I retrieve a list of occuring values?
How can I retrieve a table with both the list of occuring values and their respective frequencies?
Thank you in advance,
Yours, Ferri

I want to read in tables, the problem is that the table is composed in a

function design
I have a, no doubt, simple question. I wish to write a function such
that
a <- 9
b <- 10
changer _ function(x,y) { if (y>x){ x <<- Y+1}}
Of course there are easier ways to accomplish the task above, but I am
more interested in how to have the "x <<- Y+1" part of the function to
change x in place for purposes of a much larger function.
I have been wrestling with

the first and last observation for each subject
I have the following data
ID x y time
1 10 20 0
1 10 30 1
1 10 40 2
2 12 23 0
2 12 25 1
2 12 28 2
2 12 38 3
3 5 10 0
3 5 15 2
.....
x is time invariant, ID is the subject id number, y is changing over time.
I want to find out the difference between the first and last observed y
value for each subject and get a table like
ID x y
1 10 20
2 12 15
3 5 5
......
Is there any easy way to generate
