Fwd: strptime() problem? - Resolved
Hi Gabor and everybody;
Thanks Gabor, with the alternative step you've told me the problem is
resolved. Comparing the two procedures:

ploting error
Hello!
I've tried to execute an R script that I used to use with older versions with
no problem. In the scrip ,I try to create a series of plots in png format,
and now there is an error (my actual verion is R2.0.1)
Error in title(main=main,sub=sub,xlab=xlab,ylab=ylab,...):

Perhaps I did something wrong with this new install?
Thanks and best

forcing all tick labels to plot
I'm trying to find a way to force all the x-axis tick labels to plot,
regardless whether or not they overlap or look pretty.
V is a factor with, say, 4 levels. A call to plot(V) gives a
histogram-like plot, one bar for each level in V. The problem is that
all the label names may not be plotted because some of the names are
lengthy and would tend to overlap if plotted.
I don't care

png device & videos
Hi all;
please, has anyone found a way to convert a series of png files created in an
R script into a video (as avi), from within the same R script?
I know this has little relation with typical R problems. Just because I've
spent all day without finding a solution, and perhaps anyone has done it
before here.
Thanks and best regards,
Javier

about image() function in R and colors
Hi!
I've got a map in R imported from a GIS (GRASS) as a vector of factors.
So I've got 20 different levels in the map and I've created a vector of custom
colors of exactly 20 colors in lenght.
I'm trying to use image() (really plot.grassmeta() that call image()) to plot
the map with those colors but it doesnt work and the colors are changed.
I would like that all points

Plot ticks and tick labels: thickness, colour?
I am displaying several series in one plot, and would like to make
them distinct without having to employ a legend.
I managed to color tickmarks, but have been unsuccessful with either one of
a) making tickmarks thicker (without increasing the axis at the same time).
From reading ?axis:
lty, lwd: line type, width for the axis line and the tick marks.
in would appear that I cannot

reducing distances between tickmarks
Hello, everybody!
I have a code below that creates a data set and then a stacked bar
chart based on that data set.
No need to look at it - just notice please that my horizontal axis is
a date varible (x=my.data$date).
I have a question about the last 2 lines of this code:
grid(nx=NULL,ny=NULL,col = "lightgray", lty = "dotted",lwd = par("lwd"))

surpressing tickmarks / labels x-as for two sets of boxplot (plotted as stacked boxplots)
Hello,
I am trying to plot two sets of boxplots together. These are estimates of two
experiments and?seven?factors.
The results of the two experiments I want to plot as boxplots stacked to each
other.
Therefore I plot first the results of the first experiment; and next with the
add option the second set of boxplots.
The boxplots are plotted at 'at = 1:7 - 0.15 for the first experiment and

Labels on axes with log scales with lattice
I using lattice to make some plots and I want to make the y-axis on
some of these plots use a log scale. In the following plot:
x <- 1:10
y <- 2^x
xyplot(log10(y) ~ x)
I get tick marks on the y-axis at 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, and 3.0. I
would rather have just 3 tick marks at 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0 but labeled
10, 100, and 1000.
I know this can be done using the "at" and

add text to a plot, create character labels
Hi,
I was trying to run the following, where the labels on the x axis are dates

is there a way to avoid "traveling" grid?
Hello!
If you run the whole code below, it'll produce a stacked diagram. And
it looks good - because the tick-marks are aligned with the grid.
However, if I stretch the graph window, grid becomes misaligned with
the tickmarks. Or, rather, it seems aligned for the first and the last
tick mark, but not for tickmarks in between.
Can it be addressed?
Thank you!

standardize ggplot and lattice themes
Dear list,
I'm writing a long document (thesis) and as much as I would like to
use only ggplot2 for the graphics, some features are still a bit
undocumented so I often end up choosing either ggplot2, lattice, or
base plots (which i know better) depending on the particular graph to
produce. With the default settings, this does not make for a
consistent look I would like to see

samba Digest, Vol 147, Issue 19
Hello, thanks for replying.
I installed and configured samba 4.1.7 and ntp 4.2.6 according to
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Time_Synchronisation. I don't need further
time updates. I need to change the date to DC samba4 the first days of
every months by the last day of the previous month and my clients
automatically update their time. I am aware of problems this can trigger

Plot label axis with expression
Hi all,
I need help with axis in plot.
I want to edit y axis label of my plot. My data is like:
x <- c(100,50,10,1,0.1,0.05,0.001)
plot(log(x))
axTicks(2) # Label of y axis
[1] -6 -4 -2 0 2 4
I'd like that y axis label was like: e^-6, e^-4, etc. (with text "e"
superscript -6, -4, etc.) I try to use expression(), but don't work.
plot(log(x), yaxt="n")

Possible error in ?axTicks
Hi all,
Before posting to r-bugs, I thought that I would just verify this one
first.
It looks like the help for axTicks() needs to be corrected.
It presently says:
'axTicks()' can be regarded as an R implementation of the C function
'CreateAtVector()' in '..../src/main/graphics.c' which is called by
'axis(side,*)' when no argument 'at' is specified.

axTicks.Rd documentation bug
?axTicks says:

but this is not how the function is implemented -- in fact 'usr' should
be a vector of length two corresponding to the appropriate elements of
par("usr") [1:2 if side is 1 or 3, 3:4 if side is 2 or

plotting a timeline
I was trying to recreate this kind of timeline plot:
http://www.vertex42.com/ExcelArticles/create-a-timeline.html
As you can see in their excel example, the events are nicely placed out on
both sides of the timeline axis.
AFAIK there is no function to do this nicely in R-project. Furthermore,
graphics and lattice packages are unable to draw the x-axis in the middle of
the plot. (datapoints

axis in r plot
I have a graph plotted in r.The x axis tickmarks are at 0,5,10. I need a
graph with resolution of tickmarks at 0.1 interval. When i place tickmarks of
0.1 intervals using the following command axis(1, at=seq(0,5,0.1),
cex.axis=0.7, las=2) I only get the tickmarks of 0.1 interval that are very
closed placed in the graph.I need to increase the spacing between each
tickmark. Please anyone help out
