time-series
Dear R helpers I have a daily rainfall dataset of 5 stations, but the time-series are of different lengths. Three stations measured precipitation from 1917 to 2004, one from 1930 to 1979, and other from 1975 to 1998. I'd like to know how to analyse if rainfall is similiar at all stations. Is it possible to compare time-series like these? Best Regards!

Memory exceeding for split
Hi R-users I'm working with a data.frame of 40000 x 10, for which I need to apply the "split" function. The result is very long and cannot be stored in a variable due to memory exceeding. I've tried to send the result directly to a file through sink(filename) function, but the problem still occurs. Does anyone have an idea to solve this issue? > dim(dados) [1] 40000 10

Comparing treatments in Multivariate Analysis
Hi R-users I'd like to know if there is some packages or functions to do comparison of treatments after that manova pointed differences between them. Any suggestions are much appreciated. __________________________________________________________ Eng. Agr., M.Sc. RdbiPgSQL in R 2.4.1
Hi R-users I recently downloaded RdbiPgSQL 1.8.0 and Rdbi 1.8.0 from Bioconductor to be installed under R 2.4.1. When requiring RdbiPgSQL an error message is showed as follows: > require(RdbiPgSQL) Loading required package: RdbiPgSQL Error in library(package, lib.loc = lib.loc, character.only = TRUE, logical = TRUE, : ‘RdbiPgSQL’ is not a valid package – installed <

Manova and contrasts
Hi R-users I'm trying to do multivariate analysis of variance of a experiment with 3 treatments, 2 variables and 5 replicates. The procedure adopted in SAS is as follow, but I'm having difficulty in to implement the contrasts for comparison of all treatments in R. I have already read manuals and other materials about manova in R, but nothing about specific contrasts were found in them,

How avoid coercion to character
Hi R-users! I'd like to know how to avoid automatic coercion of numeric variables passed to array() to character, when there is one categorical variable between others. I have tried I() function, but it is just functional in data.frame. Best Regards! Eduardo Dutra de Armas

solving equation
Dear R-users, I'm trying to solve the following equation, to get a set of values satisfying it and I'd like to know if its possible to do that in R. 0.85*(54.6-X)^2 + 4.65*(25.2 - Y)^2 -2*0.84*(54.6-X)*(25.2-Y) <= 8.29 Thanks a lot, Eduardo Armas --- [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Generating Images/PDF Server-Side
Hi, I am working on a project where I need to generate a chart (a bit like a pie chart, but very customised) and insert this into a PDF document. Does anybody have any advice on ruby libraries (or other techniques) for doing this? Open to suggestions? The resulting PDF will be designed for printing and so ideally should be vector throughout (or any raster images 300dpi). I was thinking of some

resolution (dpi) problem
I am using R 2.4.1 with Windows XP. I use the plot command in a fairly simple script and I use the right mouse click on the plot and save as a postscript file. I used the resultant file in a paper which was submitted electronically. However, I get the following response from the journal: Your manuscript has been unsubmitted because you failed to meet the submission guidelines as indicated

300 dpi and eps:
Hi, I have a run of 5 graphs that I want to place them under the same page. Everything works fine to place them in a pdf file , or eps file, but when it comes to have a high quality of 300 dpi these graphs are not good. For example I open the eps file with Adobe Illustrator (AI) and it shows that it is a 72dpi graph. If I start with a 72dpi graph AI cannot improve this to 300 dpi. Q: HOW CAN A

PNG resolution
Hi, I expect that if I change only the resolution of an image, although the image would have more pixels, if viewed in the same physical size, the elements in the image would have the same physical size but with more detail. However, when I use the "res" parameter of png() this is not what I see. Would someone show me how I can just "increase the resolution" without

Use cairo fallback resolution greater than 72dpi in cairo_pdf and cairo_ps in grDevices
Dear all, In grDevices R functions cairo_pdf and cairo_ps it is mentioned that when transparency (alpha channels) are used in vector output, it will rasterize the PDF or postscript exported graph at a resolution of 72 dpi : https://stat.ethz.ch/R-manual/R-devel/library/grDevices/html/cairo.html You can see the problem if you try library(ggplot2) cairo_ps(file = "test.eps",onefile =

File Column and Colorspaces
Hi all, is there a way to automatically convert uploaded images to an RGB colorspace? I have a small intranet app, in which people can upload images. Sometimes a large 300dpi CMYK image intended for print sneaks in and causes trouble... Many thanks in advance, Nicky

Use cairo fallback resolution greater than 72dpi in cairo_pdf and cairo_ps in grDevices
The 'at a minimum' information requested by the posting guide is missing. According to their documentation the cairo default fallback resolution is now 300dpi, and when I run your example on Fedora 21 that is what the emitted postscript says it is. You can easily alter the R code to set it to something different: see http://cairographics.org/manual/cairo-cairo-surface-t.html for the
