continuous coloring of a polygon
R2.7.1, WinXP
Hi,
I have a polygon inside a circle as follows:
radius <- 3
x <- seq(-radius,radius,length=2000)
y <- sqrt(radius^2-x^2)
xx <- c(x,-x)
yy <- c(y,-y)
plot(xx,yy, xlim=c(-radius,radius),ylim=c(-radius,radius), type="l",
ylab="", xlab="", axes=F)
radius <- 2.7
x1 <- seq(-radius,radius,length=2000)
y1 <- sqrt(radius^2-x1^2)

xlim/ylim and actual axis length
Dear plotting wizards,
when plotting in R, the actual lengths of the axes are slightly
greater than the ranges of the x/y variables or xlim/ylim values.
how do I control the amount by which the axes are enlarged? Is
there a way to enforce that the lengths of the axes equal
xlim/ylim?
example:
plot(0:100,0:100,pch="+")
it can be observed, that the x- and y-axis join at approx.

Changing the ranges for the axis in image()
Dear all,
I can not find/understand the solution to this from the help pages:
Say we have the following script:
x<-matrix(c(1,1,0,1,0,1,0,1,1),3,3)
image(x)
How can I change the ranges on the vertical and horizontal axis to a
range of my own or at least place a box frame around the image if I
choose to use "axes=FALSE"?
Apologies for such a bsic question and thanks beforehand

How to add a top X-axis with a different logarithmic scale?
Hi,
I am trying to put on one plot two different logarithmic
scales, using the bottom and top X-axes.
Below there is an example of what I am trying to achieve,
using axTicks() -- and fails.
I already spent few hours on that, and cannot figure out from
?par and ?axTicks what I am doing wrong.
Example follows:

Control y axis
I can't get the y axis to extend the full range that I need, which is -8 to 8
Here's my code. I tried using ylim, but it's still truncating at the
extremes in my data.
plot(x, y, type ="o", xlab="Panelist", ylab="T value",lwd=1.5,lty=1)
xlim=range(1:14),ylim=range(-8:8), las=1)
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Labelling a second y-axis
Hi,
I am using the following code as an example function to create
multiple y-axes on one plot. I have it working fine however, I can't
seem to add a label on the second (right) axis. I have tried adding
ylab="y2" in the axis call but, that didn't work; any ideas?
Thanks,
Jesse
Code:
function() {
par(las=1,xaxs="r",mai=c(1,0.75,1,1))
x<-1:10

Changing x-axis on boxplot
Dear List,
?
I am creating a boxplot with two subsets, very similar to the example by Roger
Bivand at ?boxplot (reproduced below).? I am trying to change the labels on the
x-axis to have one number to cover both subsets.? I can do this in other plots
by using axis=FALSE followed by a separate axis() command.? I have also tried
variations in the names= argument but can't get it to work.?

Plotting two y-axis vs non-numeric x-axis
Hi dear all, the following code is correct. but I want to use non-numeric
x-axis, for example
if I replace time <- seq(0,72,6) by
month <-
c("Jan","Feb","Mar","Apr","May","Jun","Jul","Aug","Sep","Oct","Nov","Dec","Pag")
Ofcourse I use factor(month) instead of

Formatting the axis of plot() to shown our own values.
Part 1:
I want to plot the CO2 concentration vs. year, but extending the x-axis
using the xlim parameter to include the year 2006 (x axis range of values
are from -41210 to 0), and adjusting the ylim parameter to go up to 400 when
the range of y axis values are from 150 to 300. How do I do this? Using axis
function? I am confused about the syntax here.
Part 2:
I also want to use the points()

x axis problems
I have been searching for the R manual, unable to solve my problem.
Questions
1) How can I put the x axis at the top of the plot?
2) I am plotting data from a CTD. I want to add series sal, obs and fluo
at the same plot by using points(sal, deepth) ets. The data have
different values so I want to use multiple x axis (4) with different
scaling. How can I do that?

Plotting barplot and scatterplot on same device - x-axis problem
Hi R-users
I'm a relative newbie and uses R mostly for graphical purpose. I have a
layout problem when plotting a scatterplot and a barplot using
par(new=TRUE). The baseline of the x-axis is not positioned equal for the
two plotting functions (see picture) and I have been unable to find out how
this is changed.

plot 7 * 3 matrix on DIN A4 pdf
Hello,
I want to plot 21 scatter plots in a 7*3 matrix on a single A4 page
(using mfcol). Below is an example, which -by and large- looks very
close to the desired result. But I do not get it to fill out the whole
page. If I specify the a different page size, the plots still do not
fill out the whole page.
Anybody an idea what to do? Maybe adjusting indvidiual plot size (if
so, how?). Or is there

How to force axis to have the same range
Dear R-users,
I am trying to produce (standard and trellis) scatterplots which use the
same range of the x and y axes. In addition, I would like the plots to
be physically square. Is there one or more specific argument(s) to plot
and xyplot what would do that? I have looked at various combinations of
asp and pin value, but could not get what I wanted..
Thank you in advance for your help

plot with the axes at xlim and ylim
I'd like to make a plot with the axes drawn at the values of xlim and
ylim. The default plot draws the axes slightly outside these values. I
have been experimenting with the par(mgp) setting, but specifying
par(mgp=c(2,0,-1)) gives me
"invalid value specified for graphics parameter "mgp".".
A more complicated mathod that almost seems to work is doing the plot

Getting plot axes where they should be!
Hi Folks,
I've been digging for the solution to this for several
hours now. If there is a solution, it must be one of the
worst "needle-in-a-haystack" examples in R documentation!
Essentially, I want to make an x-y plot in which the
X-axis really is the X-axis (i.e. its vertical position
is at y=0), and the Y-axis really is the Y-axis (i.e.
its horizontal position is at x=0).

suppressing non-integer labels for plot x-axis
Dear R-helpers,
I am having difficulty making R plot only integer labels on the x-axis
of a simple graph. I want to plot the median values of a score on each
of three occasions. Non-integer occasions are impossible. But, R keeps
labelling the x-axis with half-occasions, despite my attempts to stop
this using the "xaxs" and "xaxp" parameters of 'plot'.

Graph with values of coordinates of points in x axis
Hi all,
I want to draw a line with the values of x marked in X axis.
I tried with
x <- c(0,6,12,18,24,30) #coordinates of points x
y <- c(2,5,7,5,7,16) #coordinates of points y
plot(x,type="n",xlab="Months",ylab="Y
values",main="main",ylim=c(0,16),xlim=c(0,30))
lines(x,y)
The graph shows by default an increment of the sequence in x axis that

Help on direction of axis in R needed
Hi!
I'd like to plot things with axes going from the
highest to the lowest value, so that e.g. high values
on the xaxis are plotted to the left and low values to
the right.
Could anyone tell me how this is done? I couldn't find
anything in the documentation.
Thanks a lot!

complex plots using layout()
Dear r-help,
I am trying to plot several scatter plots with marginal histograms on
one page. Ideally, a page is equally divided into 4 figure regions.
Within each figure region, a scatter plot with marginal histograms will
be plotted.
I followed Dr. Paul Murrell's code released online to successfully plot
the scatter plot with marginal histograms. The code applies "layout()"
