Thanks for the link to the data. Here's my best guess. If you use
the following approach, with the HC0 type of robust standard errors in

neg-bin clustered analysis in R?
Dear All,
I'm analysing a negative binomial dataset from a population-based
study. Many covariates were determined on household level, so all
members of a household have the same value for those covariates.
In STATA, there seems to be an option for 'clustered analysis' for
neg-bin regression. Does an equivalent exist for R(MASS)'s glm.nb or a
comparable function?
Many thanks for

Stepwise GLM selection by LRT?
Dear List,
having searched the help and archives, I have the impression that
there is no automatic model selection procedure implemented in R that
includes/excludes predictors in logistic regression models based on
LRT P-values. Is that true, or is someone aware of an appropriate
function somewhere in a custom package?
Even if automatic model selection and LRT might not be the most
appropriate

Mixed-effects models / heterogeneous covariances
Dear R-list,
maybe someone can help me with the following mixed-effects models
problem, as I am unable to figure it out with the 'nlme-bible'.
I would like to fit (in R, obviously) a so-called animal model (google
e. g. "Heritability and genetic constraints of life-history" by Pettay
et al.) to estimate the variance component that is due to genetic
effects. The covariances of

(Un-)intentional change in drop1() "Chisq" behaviour?
Dear List,
recently tried to reproduce the results of some custom model selection
function after updating R, which unfortunately failed. However, I
ultimately found the issue to be that testing with pchisq() in drop1()
seems to have changed. In the below example, earlier versions (e.g. R
2.4.1) produce a missing P-value for the variable x, while newer
versions (e.g. R 2.7.1) produce 0 (2.2e-16).

simplify a dataframe
Hello
I have the following problem : group the lines of a dataframe when no
information change (Matricule, Nom, Sexe, DateNaissance, Contrat, Pays)
and when the value of Debut of lines i = value Fin of lines i-1
I can obtain it with a do loop. Is it possible to avoid the loop ?
The dataframe initial is df1

I figured it out. I should RTFM before asking questions, particularly

Thanks for your patience.

[Lutz.Jaenicke@aet.TU-Cottbus.DE: 2.9p1: HP-UX 10.20 utmp/wtmp handling broken?]
Hi!
I am resending the following message about problems with utmp handling.
* In the meantime I had some request in private mail from people asking
whether I have new information.
* The problem is still persistant in 2.9p2.
* My own new investigations show, that the problem only appears with
protocol 2, not with protocol 1, I therefore only started to note it
when protocol 2 became the

Values of cpu_weight and cpu_cap are lost after xend restart
For managed domains in state ''halted'' I always get default values
for cpu_cap / cpu_weight after xend restart.
This is because the names of parameters differ between a SXP file to

Upgraded to 2.9p1 with no luck..
Howdy,
After upgrading to 2.9 (OpenSSH_2.9p1, SSH protocols 1.5/2.0, OpenSSL
0x0090600f)
I'm unable to ssh between two systems any more (the two that I've upgraded).
I've recompiled from the original source several times, each time with no
errors,
regenerated host keys, regenerated client keys (using rsa), etc., to no
avail.
Below are some relevant snippets of debugging output

Rprof fails in combination with RMySQL
Dear R community,
I tried to optimized my R code by using Rprof. In my R code I'm using MySQL
database connections intensively. After a bunch of queries R fails with the
following error message:

I did some more experiments and also saw the problems.
They occur when using a 0.9.6-beta client to connect to 0.9.5a and 0.9.6-beta
servers.
They also occur when using a 0.9.5a client connecting to a 0.9.6-beta
server.

blockwise sums
I am looking for a function like
my.blockwisesum(vector, n)
that computes sums of disjoint subsequences of length n from vector
and can work with vector lengths that are not a multiple of n.
It should give me for instance
my.blockwisesum(1:10, 3) == c(6, 15, 24, 10)
Is there a builtin function that can do this?
One could do it by coercing the vector into a matrix of width n,
and then use

fatal: Not enough entropy in RNG
Hi,
I'm running openssh 2.1.1p4 on Solaris 7 (sparc). Occationally, when I
boot up the server, the startup script I wrote to start sshd fails to start
sshd with the following error:
fatal: Not enough entropy in RNG
What am I doing wrong??
Is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening?
Is just restarting sshd a valid thing to do??
Thanks for any thoughts,

scp not shutting down in 2.1.1p4
Hi!
as I just noted, after scp the connection does not shut down properly.
When I do a "scp file targethost:path", on targethost a "sshd" process is
left running. I do use
--with-default-path="/usr/local/openssh/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/local/bin"
to assure, that the corrensponding openssh-scp is used.
It also seems, that normal sessions are not always closed properly.

ssh-agent and id_dsa
Hi!
I am distributing 2.5.1p1 for production use on my system by now and prepare
switching to protocol 2 as default protocol.
I just noted, that ssh-agent can be used for protocol 1 and 2, but the
keys kept in ssh-agent are not compared against keys in .ssh.
Example: I have a DSA key in id_dsa which I load into ssh-agent on login.
When connecting to an account accepting the key everything is
