Read the data from a text file and reshape the data
I have a data set for different time intervals. The data has three comment lines before data for each time interval. For each time interval there are 500 data points. I want to change the dataset such that I have the following format: t1 t2 t3 ................ 0.00208 0.00417 0.00625 ................. a1 a2 a3 ...................

Anova Type II and Contrasts
the study design of the data I have to analyse is simple. There is 1 control group (CTRL) and 2 different treatment groups (TREAT_1 and TREAT_2). The data also includes 2 covariates COV1 and COV2. I have been asked to check if there is a linear or quadratic treatment effect in the data. I created a dummy data set to explain my situation: df1 <- data.frame( Observation =

Reading Dates in a csv File
Hi all. I'm reading in a flat, comma-delimited flat file using read.csv. It works marvelously for the most part. I am using the colClasses argument to, basically, create numeric, factor and character classes for the columns I'm reading in. However, a couple of the fields in the file are date fields. I'm fully aware that POSIXct can be used as a class, however the field must obey,

asign variables in a "for" loop
Dear R-helpers, I'm stuck with a little problem that surely has an easy solution but I can't think of a way to solve it. I'd really appreciate any help you can offer me! I'll provide a small example. Given a dataframe data.txt that looks like this: ID freq Var Var_mean Ratio_mean Var_median Ratio_median Var_sum Ratio_min Var_max Ratio_max Var_min

help system works under IE but not Firefox
I just upgraded to 2.10.1 on a WinXPSP2 machine. When I type help.start() R attempts to open a browser session at http://127.0.0.1:27594/doc/html/index.html using my default browser (Firefox 3.6) and is unable to connect. If I then open the same page using IE 8, it works just fine. How do I fix/change R so that it works with Firefox? Thanks Bill William J. Raynor, Jr. Ph.D. Technical Leader III

Equivalent AIC values
Hello R-helpers. We have a question about AIC values. We ran several different GLMs (quadratic, interactions) and our lowest AIC values were the same for several different models. We don't know how to interpret this. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance. Katrina Shelding _________________________________________________________________ e. [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

help
Hi, I need to calculate the average length of a trait per individual. I am not used to working with R so I could use some help. The table goes like this: ind trait 1 3.6 1 3.8 1 3.9 1 3.6 2 5.5 2 5.2 3 4.8 3 4.5 and so on... If I type mean(trait) it will give me the average of all the individuals and I need a list of averages per individual.

logistic discrimination: which chance performance??
Hello, I am using logistic discriminant analysis to check whether a known classification Yobs can be predicted by few continuous variables X. What I do is to predict class probabilities with multinom() in nnet(), obtaining a predicted classification Ypred and then compute the percentage P(obs) of objects classified the same in Yobs and Ypred. My problem now is to figure out whether P(obs) is

Multivariate multiple regression
I'd like to model the relationship between m responses Y1, ..., Ym and a single set of predictor variables X1, ..., Xr. Each response is assumed to follow its own regression model, and the error terms in each model can be correlated. My understanding is that although lm() handles vector Y's on the left-hand side of the model formula, it really just fits m separate lm models. What should

How to update an old unsupported package
Hi all, I have a package that is specific to a task I was repetitively using a few years ago. I now needed to run it again with new data. However I am told it was built with an older version or R and will not work. How can I tweak the package so it will run on 11.1? It was a one-off product and has not been maintained. Is there a way to "unpackage" it and repackage it to work? I

package incompatibility under 2.5.0 (please respond directly, I am not on r-devel)
Dear all, For my package "ref" I have implemented extensive regression testing. It now fails to compile since primitives "dim" and "dimnames" (and their assignment methods) no longer allow for additional arguments. I was using an additional argument "ref" with several methods. For "].refdata" it still works, with "dim.refdata" no longer.

ccf time units
Hi, I am using ccf but I could not figure out how to calculate the actual lag in number of periods from the returned results. The documentation for ccf says:"The lag is returned and plotted in units of time". What does "units of time" mean? For example: > x=ldeaths > x1=lag(ldeaths,1) > results=ccf(x,x1) > results Autocorrelations of series 'X', by lag
