Help for Linear Discriminant Analysis
Dear colleague,
I'd like to compute linear discriminant analysis, using R. In the book Modern applied statistic with Splus (Venables & Ripley, p. 396), lda function is used. Could you tell me where I can find this function? At what site, can I download this library ?
Thank for your help.
Best Regards

Linear discriminant function analysis based median as group centroid and nonparametric scale estimators???
Dear All,
I am using a specific approach for my master thesis. In essence, a
supervised reclassification is used as an intermediate step to find chemical
parameters which are able to reclassify defined groups. These variables will
be used in a next step where location and scale estimators of the groups are
important. Traditionally linear discriminant analysis is used for
reclassification which

Discriminant analysis with R
Hello,
I might have missed it in the help pages, but I cannot find if something
exits in a package to make discriminant analysis.
Any help, or hint about where to look for it, is welcome,
Laurent

linear discriminant analysis in MASS
Hello R people
I now know how to run my discriminant analysis with the lda function in
MASS:
lda.alain=lda(Groupes ~ Ht.D0 + Lc.Dc + Ram + IDF, gr, CV = FALSE)
and it works fine.
But I am missing a test and cannot find any help on how to get it, if it
exist.
The "S" equivalent:
discrim(structure(.Data = Groupes ~ Ht.D0 + Lc.Dc + Ram + IDF, class =
"formula"), data = gr,

Linear Discriminant Analysis error: "Variables appear constant"
Hi R experts,
I'm attempting to run Linear Discriminant Analysis using the lda function in the MASS package. I've got around 50 predictor variables and one response variable. My response variable has 5 numeric categories that represent different clusters of fish abundance data (clusters were developed using Bray-Curtis and NMDS), and my predictor variables are environmental variables that

Linear Discriminant Analysis in R
Dear R gurus,
Thank you all for continuous support and guidance -- learning without you
would not be efficient.
I have a question regarding LD analysis and how to best code it up in R.
I have a file of (V52 and 671 time points across all columns) and another
file of phonetic features (each vowel is aligned with a distinct binary
sequence, i.e.

logistic regression or discriminant analysis ?
Hello,
Does logistic regression really provide better results than lda or qda ?
(my purpose is not classification but highlighting of discriminant
variables).
If this is true, where could I get an R script performing stepwise logistic
regression ?
Thanks

Discriminant Function Analysis
Dear All
This is more of a statistics question than a question about help for R,
so forgive me.
I am using lda from the MASS package to perform linear discriminant
function analysis. I have 14 cases belonging to two groups and have
measured each of 37 variables. I want to find those variables that best
discriminate between the two groups, and I want to visualise that and
create a

Discriminant analysis
Hi,
I'm a newbie in R and don't much aobut all the
modules and their capabilities, but I'm interested in
solving a problem about a discriminant analysis done
with SPSS tool. The thing is that I would like to make
a discrimant analysis similar to the one done with
SPSS, but I can't find the way to solve it.
I've been playing with R and I can handle more or
less my data,

Prediction in discriminant analysis
Sir,
I am working with multiclass discriminant analysis.(say response variable
has 3classes).In R, using lda(), I get 2 sets of coefficients for the
discriminant function. Now, I want to put a new x-vector(vector of
independent variables) and want to check it corresponds to which class of
y.Is there any formula for doing this? or how can I do this?

Reading data for discriminant analysis
Dear R users,
I want to do discriminant analysis on my data. I have
successfully followed the discriminant analysis in V & R on
the iris data:
> ir <- rbind (iris3[,,1],iris3[,,2],iris3[,,3])
> ir.species <- c(rep("s",50),rep("c",50),rep("v",50))
> a <- lda(log(ir),ir.species)
> a$svd^2/sum(a$svd^2)

discriminant function analysis
My objective is to look at differences in two species of fish from morphometric measurements. My morphometric measurements are head length, eye diameter, snout length, and measurements from tail to each fin. I want to use discrimanant function analyis to determine if there are differences between the two species.
I am familiar with R but new to discrimannt function analysis. I want to learn

Different results between lda(mass) and spss discriminant analysis
Hi all,
I obtained a strage result with LDA (MASS) function in R with NIR data.
I tried both CV (leave one out cross validation) and splitting my data in
odd (training) and even (prediction) sets.
In all the cases the minimum error was near to 0.
Due to the strange result, I tried with SPSS IBM software and it give me
around 11% of minimum error with and without leave one out cross validation.

Discriminant Analysis - Obtaining Classification Functions
Hello!
I need some help with the linear discriminant analysis in R.
I have some plant samples (divided into several groups) on which I
measured a few quantitative characteristics. Now, I need to infer some
classification rules usable for identifying new samples.
I have used the function lda from the MASS library in a usual fashion:
lda.1 <- lda(groups~char1+char2+char3, data=xxx)

plot discriminant analysis
I'm confused on how is the right way to plot a discriminant analysis made by
lda function (MASS package).
(I had attached my data fro reproduction). When I plot a lda object :
X <- read.table("data", header=T)
lda_analysis <- lda(formula(X), data=X)
plot(lda_analysis)
#the above plot is completely different to:
plot(predict(lda_analysis)$x,

X-fold cross validation function for discriminant analysis
Hi all,
I ran a discriminant analysis with some data and want to get a general idea
of prediction error rate. Some have suggested using X-fold cross validation
procedure. Anyone know if there is a function for this in R?
Thanks,

Discriminant function analysis
Hello R-Cracks,
I am using R 2.6.1 on a PowerBook G4.
I would like to perform a discriminant function analysis. I found lda
in MASS but as far as I understood, is it only working with
explanatory variables of the class factor. My dataset contains
variables of the classes factor and numeric.
Is there another function that is able to handle this?
Thank you all in advance.
Greetings

discriminant function analysis in R
Dear R Users,
I'm very very interested in learning how to use R to carry out a
classification of data using discriminant function analysis. I've
found the MASS package and the lda function, but the examples in the
help system are a bit over my head. I'm not exactly sure how to
interpret the output, for example, of if the inputs I've chosen are
best suited to my needs.
