RMySQL problem - SOLVED
Hi,
The problem was the row.names that were sent to the database and created
an primary key duplicate. Now it works fine.
BTW congratulations for the package. It copied 15300 rows by 11 columns
in less than 5 seconds, in my PIII 833 with 1 GB RAM.
> system.time(dbWriteTable(con, "TBL_SIMDATA", TBL.SIMDATA, append =
TRUE, row.names=F))

Updating a table with Ajax
I''ve been banging my head against the wall trying to update a table
(add/delete rows) using Ajax. It seems simple enough but just doesn''t work
for me. I can get it to work using DIVs instead of a table, but doing the
layout with DIVs is much more cumbersome and I know it works for others with
a table (though I haven''t been able to find an exact example code anywhere).

compare two tables and find the difference?
I need to compare a column in TableA to a column in TableB and then
select 3 columns from TableA for all the records in TableA that don''t
exist in TableB.
TableA and TableB are different but do have one field in common that i
am comparing. The tables are not related in anyway.
right now I have a find_by_sql query located in a model that looks like
this:

Composite primary keys and :joins=>
I have a legacy db with the following simplified structure:
Table-A:
type_key, code_key, name, ... # PKs are type_key and code_key,
there is no id col and I cannot alter this db
Table-B: # each row has only the code as a foreign_key, the type_key
is hard-coded to "FOOKEY"
an_id, code, ...
Models:

> ssql<-"INSERT INTO tabla1 (variableA, variableB) VALUES
(''valor1'',''valor2'')"
> dbSendQuery(conec, ssql)

help with DRY violation
I''m trying to be a good rails developer and fix DRY violations as i find
them. However, i''m trying to fix this one, i cant seem to get it to work.
I have two tables A and B that have a one-to-one relationship. Table B
belongs_to Table A. Table A has_one Table B. I''m creating instances of
Table A in different places, depending on the controller. However, for each

Balancing multiple connections and NAT
Hi,
I have a client connected to the ''net through 3 ISP''s. Have set up a
Linux box to do routing and load sharing for the 3 connections. A
fourth interface is connected to the LAN with private IP addresses.
Am using iptables to SNAT traffic to the appropriate IP depending on
the interface the packet gets routed onto. The setup looks something
like this:

Hi Val,
My fault - I assumed that the NA would be first in the result produced
by "unique":
mydat <- read.table(textConnection("Col1 Col2 col3
Z1 K1 K2
Z2 NA NA
Z3 X1 NA
Z4 Y1 W1"),header = TRUE,stringsAsFactors=FALSE)
val23<-unique(unlist(mydat[,c("Col2","col3")]))
napos<-which(is.na(val23))
preval<-data.frame(Col1=val23[-napos],

subtract a list of vectors from a list of data.frames in an elegant way
Dear R experts,
I've realized that it might not be possible to define a negative SELCET statement in a SQL call so now I'm looking for the smoothest way to generate a list of what I would like from my large database by first pulling all the names with a query like this "SELECT top 1 * FROM your_table" (thank you Bart Joosen for the idea) and then subtract the variables I am not

HI Jim and all,
I want to put one more condition. Include col2 and col3 if they are not
in col1.
Here is the data
mydat <- read.table(textConnection("Col1 Col2 col3
K2 X1 NA
Z1 K1 K2
Z2 NA NA
Z3 X1 NA
Z4 Y1 W1"),header = TRUE,stringsAsFactors=FALSE)
The desired out put would be
Col1 Col2 col3
1 X1 0 0
2 K1 0 0
3 Y1 0 0
4 W1 0 0
6 K2 X1

Jim has been exceedingly patient (and may well continue to be so), but this smells like "failure to launch". At what point will you start showing your (failed) attempts at solving your own problems so we can help you work on your specific weaknesses and become self-sufficient?

description and then go ahead and view TableB I get an error message

Bug with Postgres and/or HABTM?
Hello list,
I think I''ve found a bug in the way Rails is talking to my Postgres DB
when recording HABTM data.
My join_table looks like this:
id serial primary key,
tablea_id integer references tablea(id),
tableb_id integer references tableb(id),
other_attributes...
When Rails writes to join_table, I''d expect it to do something like:
INSERT INTO join_table (tablea_id,

Concatenate a Variable
Good morning!
I do not speak English very well and so I will try to explain the best I
can. I have this:
> tabela[,1]
[1] a a b b a c b a c c c c c
Levels: a b c
>unique(tabela[,1])
[1] a b c
Levels: a b c
>var<-unique(tabela[,1])[1]
> var
[1] a
Levels: a b c
But if I concatenate like this
> cat("VAR: ", var, "\n")
I obtain
>VAR: 1
