discriminant analysis
Hi,
I have done different discriminant function analysis of multivariat data. With the CV=True option I was not able to perform the predict() call. What do I have to do? Or is there no possibility at all? You also need the predicted values to produce a plot of the analysis, as far as I know.
Here my code:

Previewing oggvorbis files in GNOME...
Hi. I'm wondering if anyone out there can give me a little help trying
to figure something out: I presently am running CentOS4.1 with GNOME as
my desktop (It runs quite well, I must say!). I just have a little
curiosity: I have a few audio files (.wav, .mp3 and .ogg) and I like to
"preview" them. When run my mouse over the .wav files (and mp3 files)

Help get this simple function to work...
I have a function (see below). This function has one object, ID. If I run
the loops by themselves using a character value (ie,"VFFF1-7") instead of
the function object, then the loops work fine. However, when I try to
insert the character value via the function call, it doesn't work. I don't
get an error, but the TotalCover.df dataframe does not update according to
the loop

Grouped data objects within GLS and Variogram
Dear R Help,
I am having difficulty using Variogram within GLS to examine spatial structure of nested data. My data frame consists of ecological measurements of a forest, in which three landscape positions ("landposi") are compared. Each landscape position is replicated five times ("replicat"), and the environment is measured ("canopy", "litdepth", etc.)

Doubt on using lattice
Hi all,
I suppose this is a very simple question, but as I've lost already a bit of
time with it, without being able to get what I wanted, I'm addressing the
question to the group in the hope someone can help me.
I pretend to plot the richness of herbaceous species (RichHN) as a function
of time since remnant isolation (Isol) conditioned to the area of the
remnant (fArea - this is a

Stripping silent periods from MP3s
I'm on Centos 5.5, and would like to use sox to strip out
any periods of silence > 5 seconds from a batch mp3 audio
files.
Googling I found sox, but it does not seem to support mp3
files by default.
The man page says:
.mp3 MP3 Compressed Audio
MP3 audio files come from the MPEG standards for audio and video
compression. They are a lossy compression format that achieves
