reason for na.last=TRUE in rank
Dear UseRs, Could someone explain to me why the default behaviour of rank() is to assign the largest rank to missing data > rank(c(3, 1, NA)) [1] 2 1 3 as opposed to what I would hazard would be the expected 2, 1, NA? Despite consistency being the hobgoblin of little minds, of two closely related functions one handles NAs in the same way (order()) but another one doesn't (sort()).

merge list entries
dear expeRts, i would like to merge the data frame entries in a list. for example: > #input > myl <- list(q1=data.frame(id=c("Alice", "Bob"), grade=c(90, 49)), q2=data.frame(id=c("Alice", "Chuck"), grade=c(70, 93)), q3=data.frame(id=c("Bob", "Chuck"), grade=c(84, 40))) > #output > (mydf <-

Manual for package "methods"
Hi, I want to compile the manual for "methods" so that I can have the usual indexed man pages in a single document with a ToC. I've tried with R CMD Rd2dvi --pdf /usr/local/lib/R/library/methods but the result is odd, the ToC shows only "as" and "setOldClass" and it does not compile all man pages, the pdf has only 30 pages ... I know I can simply print

assigning colors to barplot when beside=TRUE
dear list, i am having trouble coloring the bars in a barplot. my data have two groups, which i would like to plot side by side. within each group i want to sort the observations in decreasing order, like a pareto chart. the bar colors would relfect the value of a third variable. below i have generated a reproducible example. the bar heights are a given pig's "gain",

Checking the existance of a NOT NULL constraint from Active Record
Hi, I'd like to check the existance of a NOT NULL constraint for a given attribute using ActiveRecord. Is this possible or do I have to painstakingly query the information_schema myself? I need this for some reflection in a custom association. Thanks, - Rowan -- Morality is usually taught by the immoral. _______________________________________________ Rails mailing list

lattice legend colors recycling sooner than expected
dear r-helpers, it seems the colors in an automatically generated lattice legend recycle after the 8th color, even when the user has set e.g. superpose.symbol$col to be longer than 8. the following example will illustrate what i mean: z <- data.frame(x=rep(letters[1:15], each=4), y=rnorm(60), groups=rep(LETTERS[1:3], 20)) library(nlme) library(lattice) plot(groupedData(y ~ x |

[LLVMdev] YA Vectorization Benchmark
Daniel, Nadav, Hal, So, after some painstakingly boring re-formatting, I've split the 24 kernels into 24 files (and left a horrible header file with code in it, which I'll clean up later). Since we're taking times in the benchmark tool, and we're trying to assert the quality of the FP approximation by the vectorization, I'll try to come up with a reasonable watermark for each

Before I write this myself, is there already an easier way?
Recently I''ve wanted to be able to take the data I''ve painstakingly defined in my fixture files and slurp it up into my development database so I can play with my website (locally, in development mode) with the same data I use in my tests. In a similar vein, I want to take the table definitions in the development_structure.sql file and use it to re-define my development

ot: how to block persistent same invalid account, different IPs
I've installed fail2ban, it seems to be working as it identified my failed test logins, BUT, my question is: what can I do when I see same invalid name trying to login to dovecot, different IP each time, how can I say block each IP as used by this name ? or it that a bad idea ? I can see two persistent attempts as so: I don't have such user 'ignacio' or 'julian' # grep

Rd2dvi problem.
If I execute R CMD Rd2dvi foo.Rd I get messages of the form: Converting Rd files to LaTeX ... foo.Rd Creating dvi output from LaTeX ... Saving output to 'foo.dvi' ... cp: .Rd2dvi4366/Rd2.dvi: No such file or directory Done xdvi-xaw: Fatal error: foo.dvi: No such file. Intermediate LaTeX output generated by R CMD Rd2dvi
Is there any way of getting just the LaTex output which R CMD Rd2dvi generates on the way to produces a .dvi file, which could then be incoorporated into another document? bash help please
I'd like to make MikTeX the default TeX package in 2.2.0, but we still need to let people use other packages. The problem is that MikTeX wants a command line option --include-directory $R_HOME/share/texmf, while other packages specify includes via environment variables, and barf when they see the unexpected option. The choice should be controlled by the user's settings in the MkRules

Error using Rd2dvi on OSX
Hi, I run R 2.5.1 on Mac OS 10.4.10 and fail to build a package manual. Below is the transcript. The problem is a "pdflatex: command not found" error but I think that I have a fully working latex install (installed with iInstaller) as I use TeXShop with no problem. Could someone help? Looks like blockpull does not accept a subset of the entire chain of backing files
Hello If I'm not terribly mistaken, looks like libvirt 1.2.1 does not provide ability of merging only a subset of the entire chain of backing files. So, if I have a chain like this: root <- a <-b <- c <- d <- active ... and I'd like to obtain a chain like this: root <- c <- d <- active ... looks like it's not supported,
