MultiSearcher Results Question
If searching multiple indexes with a single searcher is there anyway to identify which index a resulting doc is stored in? i1 = Ferret::I.new i2 = Ferret::I.new i1 << {:id=>1,:text=>"random stuff"} i1.commit reader = Ferret::Index::IndexReader.new([i1.options[:dir],i2.options[:dir]]) searcher = Ferret::Index::IndexSearcher.new(reader) query =

Ferret-talk Digest, Vol 15, Issue 8
Hi everyone, thank you for the help last time. A quick question, through rereading the ferret tutorial I realized that by adding :key => :id to the index loading, I could access my documents through index["11"], in addition to using the doc_id from ferret through index[122]... This is great, and saves me a line or two a lot of places in my code. However, is there a way of extracting

Combine ferret with database
Hello list, I wonder if someone has some tips on joining a ferret search with a database. I have a rails project using a postgresql backend and I would like to utilize the superb performance of ferret for fulltext searching. The problem is that I have to joined the result with the database as I have some user access rights to different documents to take into account. Does anyone have

index browser inconsistent with IndexReader
Hi, We have an index of around 1M web pages as part of our web app. The app uses ferret by way of RDig to perform searches. We have noticed anecdotally that some searches don''t work the way we thought they should, as if documents were missing from the index. Yesterday we came upon a concrete instance of this. Our documents have several fields, one of which is called :keywords and

search results autocompletion
Dear list, I ''m using a text input field with autocompletion . The suggestions come from a ferret index which is created by getting all the terms belonging to other indices. Here is the code: class Suggestion attr_accessor :term def self.index(create) [Person, Project, Orgunit].each{|kl| terms = self.all_terms(kl) terms.each{|term| suggestion =

Possible bug when creating a Ferret::Search::Sort object?
I may have run across a bug in Ferret: if throws a segmentation fault when I try to create a Sort object using the default fields (SCORE and DOC_ID), but setting reverse to true. Here''s the minimal example: #!/usr/bin/env ruby require ''rubygems'' require ''ferret'' Ferret::Search::Sort.new Ferret::Search::Sort.new( [

Possiible Bug ? indexWriter#doc_count countsdeleted docs after #commit
Hi David, > Deleted documents don''t get deleted until commit is called Ok, but FYI, my experiments show that #commit doesn''t affect #doc_count, even across ruby sessions. On a different note, I''d like to request a variation of #add_document which returns the doc_id of the document added, as opposed to self. I''m trying to track down an issue with a large

Ferret 0.9.5
Hi, I was wondering if the latest version of acts_as_ferret (0.2.2) that is listed on http://projects.jkraemer.net/acts_as_ferret/ is compatible with the latest version of Ferret 0.9.5. I noticed that the website above stated that it was supposed to work with 0.9.4, but I didn''t see anything about 0.9.5. Thanks, Aaron -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

How to handle updates from other machine
Hi, Right now I''m having ferret index about 1.5million documents. I plan on rebuilding the index on another machine and then copying the index over to the webserver. I read in one of the other posts that ferret has to reopen the index to see any new changes. Is there a way to script this? My frontend is a RoR app using AAF. Thanks, Chris -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

using highlight from aaf
Hi, I''m trying to use highlight ferret method with trunk aaf and 0.10.1 ferret. In my search display I use: Myindexedclass.ferret_index.searcher.highlight(@query, result_line.id, :content) * searcher is a protected method; how can I access to the searcher from aaf ? * is the doc id in aaf the same as my model id ? * is the first param, query, the string query or the query object ?

Reworking the Index Constructor
Hey .. I was thinking about the way I need to use the Ferret::Index::Index Class and its subclasses .. i find it somehow complex .. I think this can be done more easily .. Most of the Time a user needs to open up a index to do queries, the best way would be to use a IndexReader afaik. I would suggest to do it that way: index = Ferret::Index::Index.new( :path =>

concurrency / #search_each problem / segfault
Hello everyone, I was stress-testing my application (running on Rails via FastCGI) by letting two concurrent users (not human .. an app called ''siege'') a) save an Article and b) search for all Articles. I am searching via Article.ferret_index.search_each( ..) do |doc_id,score| doc = index[doc_id] .. end and writing via Article.ferret_index <<

RDig and AAF playing together
I have a site with two indexes. Index A is created offline by RDig and queried from the web via RDig (specifically, RDig.searcher.search). Index B is managed by AAF with :remote => true. Simple enough. However, I need to query both indexes from RDig. Usually this is ok, as I modified RDig to accept an array of search_paths with an element for index A and index B. However, when Index

Dynamic fields and AAF
Hi, I have a model which has properties, these are your standard name/value pairs, but also have attributes that affect how I want to store them in ferret. I was using 0.9.5 with 0.2 of aaf, which seemed fine, I just copied and pasted (yes, I know, ick) the to_doc method and added code to iterate though the properties that that model had, and add relavent fields to the document. It seems

AAF Sorting by date - what am I doing wrong?
I''m trying to sort my search results by Date, in descending order. I''ve done quite a bit of reading through the forums here, and I''ve tried two different suggestions. This just returns results in the same order as a search without a sort: sort_fields = [] sort_fields << Ferret::Search::SortField.new("ferret_created_at",:reverse => :true)

crash while retrieving term vectors
This program reliably crashes for me (usually a segfault): require ''rubygems'' require ''ferret'' reader=Ferret::Index::IndexReader.new ARGV fields=reader.field_infos.fields reader.max_doc.times{|n| fields.each{|field| reader.term_vector(n,field) } unless reader.deleted?(n) print "."; STDOUT.flush } As you can see, it just goes through

Erratic behavior with ferret 0.95 and acts_as_ferret

retrieving search result positions
Hi I''m considering using Ferret in v2 of Weft QDA, a wxruby desktop application for textual analysis in social science. Ferret seems a very impressive package that meets and exceeds my requirements, but I can''t find how to retrieve specific details about the results. I''d like to be able to run fairly simple queries. I then need to look at each term match, and get

non-searchable columns, normalization
Hello. I am new to Ferret. I am using it through Acts as Ferret. Let''s say I have such a table, and all columns are indexed using the default behavior provided by acts_as_ferret: ARTICLES -id -year -body [1] A typical request will be "select id from articles where KEYWORDS % body". Will id be indexed for fulltext searching? clearly the fulltext index on id will never be

Effective search when knowing ID
Hi list, I''m new to ferret and I wonder what is the best way to search if I know one fields id and want to search on its content. I have experimented with FilteredQuery but I don''t know if this is the best way. Eg. index = Index::Index.new(:path => ''/tmp/all'') @dbh = Database.instance.connect result = @dbh.exec("SELECT pk_fulltext_id, fulltext_text
