R package-building
Hello,
I am building a package to read in a pretty common atmospheric data format
and create a SKEW-T, log p diagram (also very common for the atmospheric
community).
The problem is this: How should one address the (ASCII) data files so that
the examples find them? I have read through the "Writing R Extensions"
document and still have a problem.
There seems to be some sort of

Hi, folks.
I was wondering if any of you could point me in the right direction.
Using R 3.3.3 (and later), on an IBM Power LPAR, Red Hat 7 PPC64le, markdown build fails as below.

problems compiling R on AIX5.1
Dear all,
after trying to compile R on our IBM Power3/AIX 5.1 machine I've
been able to run it correctly.
First of all I would thank all who responded my mails.
I explain here how I've done it:
First of all, it seems that configure and some shared libraries of
AIX does not work at the same time. I tried to configure & make with
the following environment vars
CC=xlc

CCC=xlC

Hi,
I have been able to build R-2.9.2 on AIX 6.1 and AIX 5.2. However, I
failed to build R-2.10.0 and later releases on these AIX platforms. The

Developmental version of Matrix package for R-1.9.0
I recently uploaded a developmental version of the Matrix package,
Matrix_0.6-1.tar.gz, to CRAN where it is in the
src/contrib/1.9.0/Other directory. It requires some of the packages
that will appear in R-1.9.0.
This version marks a major redesign of the Matrix package to use S4
classes and methods and to incorporate sparse matrix manipulations
using routines from TAUCS

I apologize for cross posting this message in the R-help group as well. Having posted it there a couple of hours ago, I felt this may be a more appropriate forum for a question of this type.

Matrix / SparseM conflict (PR#8618)
Full_Name: David Pleydell
Version: 2.2.1
OS: Debian Etch
Submission from: (NULL) (193.55.70.206)
There appears to be a conflict between the chol functions from the Matrix and
the SparseM packages. chol() can only be applied to a matrix of class dspMatrix
if SparseM is not in the path.

Method dispatch S3/S4 through optimize()
I have been running into difficulties with dispatching on an S4 class
defined in the SparseM package, when the method calls are inside a
function passed as the f= argument to optimize() in functions in the spdep
package. The S4 methods are typically defined as:
setMethod("det","matrix.csr", function(x, ...) det(chol(x))^2)
that is within setMethod() rather than by name before

When I try to load the library, however, I get the following:
