SJava help
Hi,
I installed SJava 0.66-1 on my linux RH 7.2 machine. I am using R-1.7.1.
I set LD_LIBRARY_PATH up then called library(SJava) and it was fine. But
when I called .JavaInit(), I got weird error that states it could not
find java/lang/Hashtable. The session is below and shows my java
configuration. I am using j2sdk1.4.2_01 from Sun.
Thank you very much.

Using packageStatus(), I am attempted to upgrade several packages.
This is unsuccessful with the following error messages:

Problem with RMySQL 0.5-0 under RH7.3
I have upgraded R on my Linux box from 1.5.1 to 1.6.1 using the binary

My machine is runing:

After upgrading R, I executed upgrade.packages()
During the upgrading of the different packages there was an error on RMySQL.
Here is a dump of the upgrading messages:

gcc optimization flag when building R
Hi,
I am building R on RH Linux 7.3 and I noticed that ./configure does not
set the optimization flag, -O or -O2, for gcc, but does set for g++ and
g77. Why is that? Should I try to set it manually, if yes how?
Thanks,
Vadim
P.S. This is the bottom portion of the ./configure run
R is now configured for i686-pc-linux-gnu

RMySQL Install Problem
Hey all,
I asked my server administrator to install the RMySQL package for me
however he was unable to and received the below errors. I searched the
archives for some of the words in the error mesage but found no answers.
Does anyone have any ideas what might be going wrong? This is R 1.6.2 on a
linux box.
Thanks,
Fred

to no avail
It compiles happily but when loading the package I get the following

Summary:ROracle error
Oracle is finally up and running on RH 7.3 now. I will try to summarize
the pitfalls to avoid here for future reference.
1> Make sure you have the Pro C/C++ drivers in Oracle client installed.
This can be verified by looking for the existence of the proc directory
in $ORACLE_HOME. Existence of proc means it worked
2> Put the following in the .bashrc script in root

cluster & mgcv update
Hello,
After reinstalling the whole OS and R as well, I tried to update.packages()
and get the follwing error message:
concerning the mgcv update: atlas2-base is installed and blas as well (on
debian). I haven't found lf77blas, I assume it's a library or something
similar associated with blas.
any suggestion how to solve that, thanks Martin

re: problem installing library sm
Hi All,
I am having trouble installing the sm package, and only the sm package.
My box is RedHat 7.3 on a PIV. Readline 4.3-3 is installed (suited for
RH 8, but same error under readline 4.2 for RH 7.3), but it seems to be
looking for the readline library in the wrong directory. Will installing
readline 4.1 do the trick? What else could be done?

Package installation
Hi all,
I'm very new to R.
I have installed R 1.9.0 on Linux (Fedora).
Now I got an self-made package comprising R functions as well as C-Code
which are used in several R functions.
I installed the package without any error (see install log below).
Then, I checked in /usr/lib/R/library if the package izbi exists and it
exists.
But whenever I try to load the library on the command line I

Installing packages
Hello,
I have upgraded from Mandrake Linux 8.0 to Mandrake 8.1 and try to reinstall
my favourite R... Everything is OK for the base software but I have trouble
to get some packages installed.
Specifically, for some packages, a "collect2" binary seems to be necessary
during the compilation/linking process of the library, and LD complains about
not finding it :

I'm looking for a way to install the RMySQL-package into my

I did successfully install this package into my Linux-version of R
(RedHat9), but now I want to do this in my Windows-version too.
How to?

Some problems with R and/or locfit
Hello,
Here is a problem I have had trying to install locfit, the package for
R.
I have already contacted Clive Loader who thinks the problem has more to
do with R than locfit, so here is the point :
The version of R I am currently running is R-base-0.90 that I installed
using the R-base-0.90.1-1.i386.rpm package.
I dowloaded the locfit package available at the CRAN site and ran : R
