Dealing with Non-Standard Hours
A data set I obtained has the hours running from 01 through 24 rather than the conventional 00 through 23. My favorite, strptime, balks at hour 24. I thought it would be easy to correct but it must be too late on Friday for my brain and caffeine isn't helping. Interesting Behavior in plot()
I have a 2 by 226200 table, conveniently read in by read.table(), which exhibits some strange behavior when plotted by plot(V1,V2). The general pattern for the range of windspeeds, [0<V1<50] is as expected -- the wind gust falls in the interval [V1<V2<65] except for certain values of V2. For V2 == c(15,26,37,48,59), the V2 values are positioned at one-tenth of the V1 (i.e., as if I

Aggregating on Water Year Rather Than Calendar Year
The US water year extends from 01 October yyyy-1 through 30 September yyyy and is referenced by the year starting on the included 01 January yyyy. I'd like to be able to find the annual means for the water year. To do so I've taken the input date-time, which is in the usual format "1991-10-07 10:35:00" changed it by: w$d<-as.POSIXct(w$date.time) Now I can add an

polypath winding rule with transparency
Hi, I see different results in png() and pdf() for polypath() on Windows when using the "winding" rule ## overlapping, both clock-wise x <- cbind(c(.1, .1, .6, .6, NA, .4, .4, .9, .9), c(.1, .6, .6, .1, NA, .4, .9, .9, .4)) pfun <- function() { plot(x) polypath(x * 0.8 + 0.2, rule = "winding", col = "#BEBEBE80") polypath(x, rule =

Hi Just to clarify, I think this IS a problem with grid.path() as well as polypath(). For the example you give, grid.path() diverts to drawing a polygon (because there is no 'id' specified), and the NAs in 'x' generate two separate polygons, which get drawn one on top of the other. The correct analogy to the polypath() example is ... x2 <- matrix(x[!is.na(x)], ncol=2)

Question:manipulating spatial data using combination of Maptools and Splancs
Hi, I have a problem that concerns combination of the package Maptools and Splancs I have 2 shapefiles that i want to manipulate (one of type point and one polygon).I import them in R using Maptools but then i can't estimate a quartic Kernel using Splancs. The package doesn't recognize the shapes (invalid points and poly argument).I don't know if this is an easy task but i have

Hi, I would need some help with the splans package in R. I am using a Shapefile (downloadable at) http://rapidshare.com/files/215206891/Redlands_Crime.zip and the following execution code setwd("C:\\Documents and Settings\\Dejan\\Desktop\\GIS\\assignment6\\DataSet_Redlands_Crime\\Redlands_Crime") library(foreign) library(splancs) auto_xy<-read.dbf("Auto_theft_98.dbf")

GIS and Spatial stats
[this went to me instead of the list; MM, your list maintainer] I am digging in the wrong hole I guess. Where can I find R /S routines for spatial statistics? Also has anyone made an R link to a GIS package? Anyone out there who works in this area? Thanks Richard E. polypath winding rule with transparency
Hello, it's probably worth adding that this is not a problem with pathGrob, only polypath. This code is sufficient to demonstrate the problem in Windows. ## overlapping, both clock-wise x <- cbind(c(.1, .1, .6, .6, NA, .4, .4, .9, .9), c(.1, .6, .6, .1, NA, .4, .9, .9, .4)) ## only a problem on Windows windows() and png() plot(x);polypath(x, rule = "winding", col =

ToDo List Notation
I just joined this mail-list, so I apologize if this has been discussed before, but: Has anyone suggested adding a "todo list notation" to Markdown? Specifically, I'd like to see an open paren, brace or bracket, at the start of a line, followed by a space, a "/", or a "X", followed by a matching closing paren, brace, or bracket, followed by a space and more text

Ok, thank you for this extra info. I have experienced exactly what you described. The rsync dry run is _still_ running after being started at 1:30am PST :) But it is finding the right files to update. Most of the entries are: >fc........ Which is what I want. So, just because I see: >f at the beginning... That doesn't necessarily mean that the file is going to get updated at the

Link-dest thinks file is newly created, but it isn't
Hi: I've been using rsync for a couple years now. Unfortunately, I've made some changes on both ends, so it's unclear what could be the culprit. I make extensive use of --link-dest to provide a cheap "Time Machine"-like backup for a Windows machine. porting splancs library to R
I am trying to port the splancs library for S++ version 4.0 to R. I have modified the original FORTRAN to use dllwrap/dlltool (e.g. removed common blocks). I have been able to generate dll's (splancs.dll) using dllwrap/dlltool and Ming32 g77 with a -mdll switch. As of yet I have not been able to generate a dll that can be loaded by R. Does anyone out there have any suggestions. An example

dot density maps
Dear All, In the moment i'm using the map and maptools package to read shapefiles and display the maps. I'm looking for the possibility to draw points (randomly positioned or positioned according to a grid) into the polygons instead of filling the polygons with colors. For example: a map (shapefile) with 10 countries, 15 points in the polygon of country A, 20 points in the

What about -c? It seems I'm getting a lot of spurious file transfer candidates when using: -avvznIi --no-o --no-g --no-p It's showing transfers (receive) for many files I know haven't been tampered with.
