Using windows() and jpeg()
Hello,
I have the following question, which I haven't been able to resolve after days of trying. I used to save my plots as jpegs using the savePlot command. However, that seems to result in lost resolution. So now I'm trying to use the jpeg( ) function, but am having trouble because it seems to be incompatible with the windows (width=, height=) command. It's important for me to

gray background in png
Hi all,
I'm having a problem creating png images with trellis.device. I would
like to create many plots with a white background using a sequence
number in the file argument (i.e. "%02d"). The first plot is as expected
with a white background. However, the second and all subsequent plots
have a gray background. I would like all plots to have a white (or
transparent)

coplot with png: disappearing grid lines
Dear useRs,
When I use coplot() and output to png/jpeg/bmp, the grid lines from
the scatter plots disappear. If I output to pdf() the grid lines are
there, however I can't use it - I have many points, and the resulting
PDF file is large and very slow to open and scroll through. (By the
way, if I click File-Save As-png/jpeg/bmp from Rgui.exe, the grid
lines are preserved - but I need to use

graphics backgrounds from gray to white in png()
Hi,
I'm trying to make a png file of a histogram. I would like a white
background in the final product but end up producing a gray one, despite
setting what I think are the correct parameters. Suggestions for how to
properly set a white background would be welcome.
Thanks in advance,
Scot

png() and image()
Hi,
I try to create PNG images of a certain size where each pixel
intensity corresponds to exactly one probe signal in an Affymetrix
array. I try to use png() and image() with zero margins to do this.
Example:
z <- matrix(1:15, nrow=45, ncol=30)
png("large.png", height=nrow(z), width=ncol(z), bg="red")
par(mar=c(0,0,0,0))
image(z, col=gray.colors(16), axes=FALSE)

Printing to jpeg (dev.print)
Hi,
This may be an easy question, but let me ask it. When writing a plot
to a jpeg file:
> plot(runif(30))
> dev.print(file="test.jpeg", device=jpeg, width=600)
the plot I receive has gray background, the result on no account I
want to receive. The same situation occurs when printing to a bmp
file. But when printing a pdf file, the background is white as it
should be. What

Background color with jpeg and png devices
If I change the background color of a plot, with par(bg="red") for example, I
get a plot with a red background when I use the postscript or X11 devices.
With the png or jpeg devices, the background is white.
Is this the intended behavior, or a bug? Is there anyway to get a non-white
background with the png device? I'm using R-1.1.0 on Linux.

[R-sig-Geo] plot() and Jpeg() increase font size and resolution
Thanks to Edzer and Roger,
I can now plot with increased font sizes. However, jpeg still does not
reproduce these, nor does it show up in high quality. What I would like
to do is produce some highresolution jpegs.
Any help would be appreciated

Removing leading and trailing spaces (string manipulation)
Hi all,
I'm running the following code to generate 40 different jpegs based on the resulting data. I'd like the file names to be 'Cluster1.jpeg', however the code write filenames like 'Cluster 1 .jpeg'.
How can I get rid of the unwanted spaces? I've looked at ?format and it doesn't seem to work - at least in this context.

Saving plots to file
Appologies if this has been addressed before, but I can't seem to find it in
the help archives.
I'm looking to do something like the following but it looks like save.plot
is deprecated.
save.plot(plot(glm1$residuals,gain,main = "Hist of residuals and
gain"),file="Desktop/hist1.png")
Thanks in advance,
Sean

Gray scale video output from theora
hi all
I guess that *Theora* will convert the input color space (RGB or CMYK or
any) into YUV before it process and encode. (that means theora can operate
on several color space, but it get convert into YUV before process)
Is that true...?
I want to get a gray scale, encoded video output from the *Theora* encoder
while the input video is getting from a web cam (color input and gray scale

no transparent background in bmp
I've been attempting to export a graphics file of my lattice plots and no
matter what color I use for the bg= argument in the bmp/jpeg/png function,
the background is grey.
bmp(filename = "c:/my_paper/resids.bmp", width=1024, height=1024,
pointsize=10, bg="transparent")
# these are lattice plots. plot them in a 3x2 matrix
print( hgqqplot, position=c(0.0, 0.66, 0.5, 1.0 ),

probleme with savePlot (to eps)
Hi the list,
I used savePlot to export some eps graph but it seems that the graph
file hold a bug. I include the graph.eps in a LaTeX file. Running latex
is ok. But the dvi file contain some mistake, the graph overprint on
some text and hide it. Then, when I try to convert it to another format,
I get :

dotplot & lattice problems: y axis values and bg color output in jpg
I have a linux system with Fedora Core 2 and R-2.0.
I was comparing plots made with plot() and dotplot() and discovered a
problem. Although the dots are positioned correctly, the numerical
labels in the dotplot y axis are not correct.
I put copies here:
http://lark.cc.ku.edu/~pauljohn/R/plotTrouble1.jpg
That is the "correct" one from plot, with the higest value on y showing
at 18.

Grid lines
Hi everyone. I am new to R.
It will be greatly appreciated if someone can help me with the following
questions.
Here's the graph I have just produced.
http://www.nabble.com/file/p24732839/calibration.jpeg
(1) How can I put the legend on top of the grid lines?
(2) How can I match the grid lines with the x-axis ticks?
(3) How can I change the x-axis format from e.g. Mar, Apr...etc to

Speed up graphics output?
Hi all,
I've written some code to generate 4 maps per screen and write the output to a jpeg. The output is fairly quick at the start (about 5 jpegs per minute) and then slows down greatly (1-2 jpegs per minute).
Is there some way to speed it up? One of my thoughts is to keep the base map static on the screen and just update the points that are being plotted on the map (with the exception

Size of jpegs/pngs
Dear all
I have trouble with setting the size for jpegs and pngs. I need to save a dendrogram of 1000 words into a jpeg or png file. On one of my computers, the following works just fine:
bb<-agnes(aa, method="ward")
jpeg("C:/Temp/test.txt", width=17000, height=2000)
plot(bb)
dev.off()
On my main computer, however, this doesn't work:
