Rmpi on Linux x86_64 GNU/Linux
I'm having trouble with R CMD INSTALL Rmpi_0.5-5.tar.gz
--configure-args=~/lam
lam is is installed locally.
lamboot -d (or lamboot-d and also recon) works. make -k check from the
lamtest suite passes all tests.
Is this is problem with the -fPIC compiler as in the message? Should it
be modified in the Makefile?
Any help or comments are appreciated, thanks.

Rmpi and OpenMPI ?
Has anybody tried to use Rmpi with the OpenMPI library instead of LAM/MPI?
LAM appears to be somewhat hardcoded in the Rmpi setup. Before I start to
experiment with changing this, has anybody else tried Rmpi with non-LAM MPI
implementations?

Rmpi and x86
Dear R Gurus:
Is there a problem with Rmpi on x86 with SUSE 10.1, please?
I've tried everything and it still won't load.
Has anyone else dealt with this please?
Thanks,

Rmpi segfault after install on Ubuntu Hardy Heron
I just installed Rmpi on my 64-bit Ubuntu Hardy Heron OS and using the
following without errors:
"R CMD INSTALL Rmpi_0.5-5.tar.gz --configure-args=--with-mpi=/usr/lib64/openmpi"
Immediately at library(Rmpi) I get the segfault displayed in my
complete output below. My first thought is that perhaps I used the
wrong library for openmpi, but with my 64 bit install it seemed like a

help with random numbers and Rmpi
Dear People,
This may not be the right place to ask a question about Rmpi, but I don't
know of a better one.
I am trying to get a simple program working using Rmpi with the model of 1
R master and n C slaves. What I am trying to do is have each of the C
slaves generate a random number from U[0,1], and then have the master
collect all n numbers as a vector and output it. However even doing

Hi all,
I'm trying to get the snow package with mpi working on my linux ubuntu 10.04 machine. When I tried to install it (see below) it already had problems with the dependencies.

snow's makeCluster hanging (using Rmpi)
Hello everyone,
I've been fiddling around with the snow and Rmpi packages on my new Intel
Mac, and have run into a few problems. When I make a cluster on my machine,
both slaves start up just fine, and everything works as expected. When I try
to make a cluster including another networked machine it hangs. I've

R with MPI
Hello, I plan to use R with my cluster with OpenMPI.
I need the packaged 'snow' and 'Rmpi' for that, however, I get an error
while downloading and installing them:
When I do a:
install.packages("Rmpi", dependencies=T)
I get this error:

problem with mpiexec and Rmpi
Dear R People:
I'm having some trouble with mpiexec and Rmpi.
I would like to be able to pass in the number of "children" via the
mpiexec command (from the command line).
this is in SUSE10.1, with R-2.7.1
Here are my files:
cat eb.R
library(Rmpi)
mpi.remote.exec(paste("i am",mpi.comm.rank(),"of",mpi.comm.size()))

rmpi/snow grabs all available CPU
Hi,
I'm testing affyPara on Debian lenny with
R 2.7 from unstable, and the corresponding bioconductor packages from
bioconductor.org downloaded using biocLite as per usual.
The command
cl = makeMPIcluster(k)
succeeds, but spawns k R slaves which promptly soak up all available CPU, which
is odd since they are not doing anything yet. This looks like a bug to me.
Similar behaviour is shown

Problem installing Rmpi with lam on SGI SLES9
Hi,
I've been trying here to install Rmpi on an SGI IA-64 machine with 64
processors, running SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 9, R 2.4.0 and
lam-mpi 7.1.3. While I've read of similar problems on this list, I
think I've got an entirely new set of error messages to contribute
(see below). I'm not sure what the actual error is and what the @gprel
relocation message is about. Any help

Rmpi 0.5-6 : error spawning process
Hi,
I am using a cluster with LAM 7.1.3/MPI 2 and R 2.6.0.
Rmpi version 0.5-5 is working very well.
Now I have tested "Rmpi 0.5-6". During spawning the Rslaves I get an

rsprng, snow, rmpi interactions
The proper use of SPRNG is a little unclear to me in each of these
packages, even more so when I put them all together.
My immediate question: in snow I did clusterSetupSRNG. If a later want
to (re) set the system to a known seed, how do I do it? That is, I want
each distributed process to recreate exactly the same random numbers
that it did before; I assume SPRNG assures the streams are

Rmpi_0.5-4 and OpenMPI questions
Many thanks to Dr Yu for updating Rmpi for R 2.6.0, and for starting to make
the changes to support Open MPI.
I have just built the updated Debian package of Rmpi (i.e. r-cran-rmpi) under
R 2.6.0 but I cannot convince myself yet whether it works or not. Simple
tests work. E.g. on my Debian testing box, with Rmpi installed directly
using Open Mpi 1.2.3-2 (from Debian) and using 'r' from

Installing Rmpi on FC5 with lam
After several trial and error attempts, I managed to install the Rmpi
package without error on my Linux machine, running Fedora 5.
I installed lam-7.1.2, lam-devel-7.1.2 and R-2.4.1, R-devel-2.4.1
The Package Rmpi_5.0-3.tar.gz, I installed once from within R and once
from the command line to make sure, I link the right libraries:
R CMD INSTALL Rmpi_5.0-3.tar.gz

Rmpi building
I am trying to build Rmpi on Suse 10.2 linux. While I would like to use
the RPM version of liblam-7.1.2, I have not been able to do so. It
seems that Rmpi makes some pretty strong assumptions when trying to
guess the MPI version. Has anyone successfully built Rmpi against
lam-7.1.2 recently using R-2.6.0? If so, can you give some pointers
about where the libraries and header files need to be
