Getting empirical percentiles for data
Dear List,
I have some discrete data and want to calculate the percentiles and the
percentile ranks for each of the unique scores. I can calculate the
percentiles with quantile().
I know that "ecdf" can be used to calculate the empirical cumulative
distribution. However, I don't know how to exact the cumulative
probabilities for each unique element. The requirement is similar

Calculating percentiles for multiple dates
I was hoping to calculate the percentile for each date. So group all of one
date together, calculating the value of the 2.5 and 97.5 percentile.

Looking for help in calculating percentiles
Hi All:
I am working with a dataset on Arsenic toxicity, and I am trying to
calculate the 20th, 40th, 60th, 80th, and highest percentiles for a
variable, dietary Moisture (variable name dMoist).
The inbuilt function quantile(dMoist) would print 0, 25th, 50th, 75th, and
100th percentile. Does there exist a function that can calculate xth
percentile (where x = 10th, 20th, ... etc) values?

Inserting percentile values in a data frame
Hello
I need to calculate and insert the values for the 50,75,90,95 & 99
percentiles in a data frame for each row.
I used agr1$quantile <- quantile(agr1$cnt, probs=c(.50, .75, .90, .95, .99))
but that didn't work.
How can calculate the percentile for my variable "cnt" , insert & name the
percentile as p50, p75, etc
in my data frame agr1?
Thanks in advance for your

Analysis and graphics by groups
Hello,
This is my first post in this e-mail list and I hope it's enough to justify
calling for help. In case it's not, sorry.
I'm trying to do analysis and graphics using a factor as a criteria to split
data and do the analysis/graphics for each subset of data.
Right now what I'm trying to do is to fit and plot the following logistic
model, according to a third variable named

Percentiles in R
Hi there! Still struggling to translate Matlab code into R's tsDyn package.
Here is my question: Is there in R an equivalent function to Matlab's
prctile()? To the moment I thought it was quantile(), but I just
realized I was wrong. The definition of the Matlab function:
prctile

bwplot change whiskers position to percentile 5 and P95
Dear R-community,
Using bwplot, how can I put the whiskers at percentile 5 and percentile 95,
in place of the default position coef=1.5??
Using panel=panel.bwstrip, whiskerpos=0.05, from the package agsemisc gives
satisfaction, but changes the appearance of my boxplot and works with an old
version of R, what I don’t want, and I didn’t find the option in
box.umbrella parameters
Many thanks

Package "demography" - calculating percentiles of survival probabilities distribution
Hi,
I am using the package "demography" from Rob Hyndman for the
Lee-Carter-Model. It is an amazing powerful tool but I am struggling with
one issue:
I want to compute different percentiles of the survival probability
distribution derived from the Lee-Carter-Forecast (e.g. the 50%tile,
60%tile, 75%tile and 99%tile) for each of the next 10 years. Is there any
possibility to retrieve

create new variable: percentile value of variable in data frame
Hello all,
Thanks in advance for you attention.
I would like to generate a third value that represents the quantile
value of a variable in a data frame.

y <- as.matrix(rnorm(30, 20, 7))
tmp1 <- cbind(x,y)
dat <- as.data.frame(tmp1)

Finding percentile of a value from an empirical distribution
Hello,
I am not sure how to do this in R. Any suggestion would be
appreciated. I have a vector of values from where I build an empirical
CDF. For example:
> x <- seq(1,100)
> x <- sample(x,1000,replace=T)
> quantile(x,probs=seq(0,1,.05))
0% 5% 10% 15% 20% 25% 30% 35% 40% 45%
50% 55%

Diff btw percentile and quantile
To calculate Percentile for a set of observations Excel has percentile()
function. R function quantile() does the same thing. Is there any
significant difference btw percentile and quantile?

Netflix
Now that netflix is in Australia, I wouldn't mind giving it a burl. It's
working fine on my fedora-21 lappy with chrome-40 but not on our centos-6
mythtv setup even with chrome-41. I understand the difference might be the
version of NSS - fedora-21 has 3.17 while centos is stuck at 3.16. Other than
that, I'm flumoxed.
Anyone got netflix running on centos-6?
Cheers

Lattice box percentile plot
Dear Nabble.
I am trying to draw a box percentile plot with trellis using the panel in
Hmisc. I really want to colour the plots in. I can alter several of features
of the plot by changing the trellis par settings but I just can’t fill the
shape in.
Here is some example code which alters line colour and dot symbol:

Boxplots using percentiles?
The standard R boxplot appears to use quartiles to determine the height of
the rectangles and a range parameter - RNG - (default=1.5 I think) that
determines the length of the whiskers as <= RNG x Interquartile Range. Is
it possible to instead define the range as extending to the 95th percentile?
If so, how would this be done?
nb, I'm plotting multiple boxplots on a single chart so a

data vector to corresonding percentile ranks
I have a problem where I need to calculate the corresponding cohort
percentile ranks for each of several variables.
Essentially, what I need is a function that will calculate the
distribution-free percentiles from each variable's data vector, returning a
corresponding vector of percentiles:
e.g.:

IL-2 Occasional Freezes
Hi everyone,
I just wiped XP off my old Dell D610 and loaded Ubuntu 10.10... it runs like a brand new machine! (If if weren't for compatibility issues I would do the same to my netbook right away!)
Anyway to test out Wine I installed IL-2 1946, patched up to 4.10m.
With a little tweaking it is running like a dream, save one minor issues.
Occasionally the program hiccups with what looks

an idiom to handle i'th element of a set of lists simultaneously
Hi, I have 3 lists, x, y, z and I'd like to perform a calculation over all
the lists simultaneously. If it were a single list I could use lapply, but
for more than one list I'm using a for loop. Is there an idiom that would
let me use something like lapply, but the function specified to lappy would
have access to an element from each list? (In Python, I would have used for
