untaring files in parallel with foreach and doSNOW?
Hello,
I'm running some code that requires untaring many files in the first step.
This takes a lot of time and I'd like to do this in parallel, if possible.
If it's the disk reading speed that is the bottleneck I guess I should not
expect an improvement, but perhaps it's the processor. So I want to try this
out.
I'm working on windows 7 with R 2.15.1 and the latest foreach

R-0.90.0 untar
I had a couple of problems getting R 0.90.0. In case anyone has
similar problems, I though I would mention them.
1/ I can't use "ftp cvs.r-project.org" from either home or work. The ftp
service does not seem to be available. Perhaps this is intended. I only
discovered it because I thought the file I got through Netscape might be
corrupted. (I don't understand why Netscape

untar() error
Dear List,
I have a list of 600+ *.gz files that I would like to extract and read the
geotiffs contained within them. I tried using the untar() function to
simplify this task but I am stumped by an error. I've combed the Internet
for a solution without luck. The details are below, and any help in solving
this matter is appreciated.

Have Class Only Perform Actions When There Is Work To Do (i.e. Making Them Idempotent)
Howdy. I feel like I am missing something really simply with regards to the
way that Puppet works and I am wondering if someone can point me in the
write direction.
I have written a class that downloads, uncompresses, compiles, and installs
Python from source. So far so good. The problem is that it only needs to do
this once, when Python is not already in place (or some other custom

GlusterFS 3.7 - slow/poor performances
Dear all,
I have a crash test cluster where i?ve tested the new version of GlusterFS (v3.7) before upgrading my HPC cluster in production.
But? all my tests show me very very low performances.
For my benches, as you can read below, I do some actions (untar, du, find, tar, rm) with linux kernel sources, dropping cache, each on distributed, replicated, distributed-replicated, single (single

Source Code for zoo?
Hi,
I downloaded the source code for the package zoo (zoo_1.2-2.tgz from CRAN).
When I gunzip and untar the file I can't find the R / C / FORTRAN code for the library. In the R directory under zoo, the listing is for 3 files:
zoo
zoo.rdb
zoo.rdx
Is the code encoded in one of these files?
I've had this problem with other packages too, trying to browse the source. Am I missing something

UID GID Problems.....
Hoping someone can help me fix something that I apparently messed up, i have
the issue that when I untar a file as root the uid and gid that get set are
not roots'. I had change a user uid and gid to 1000 via usermo -u etc....
but somehow it appears to have effected the root user. When I touch files
as root the correct uid and gid are root, however when untaring an archive

Rails Edge ActiveSupport::TimeWithZone and Marshalled objects
Hello all,
I''m trying to use the new ActiveSupport::TimeWithZone from Edge. The
problem seems to be that I have a several-action process to create a
Booking. This Booking is stored in the session (session[:booking] =
@booking) throughout the actions until the last action is reached and
the record is saved to the DB.
Using TimeWithZone seems to be producing errors when trying to

Installing R-1.5.0 on Linux
Dear all,
I am sorry in advance because probably my question was already
discussed.
I have installed an R version R-1.3.1 on Linux RedHat 6.2.
As I want to install R-1.5.0, I have first followed a suggestion of
Peter
Dalgaard (mail in FAQ) in order to keep the version R-1.3.1 by renaming
/usr/local/lib/R and /usr/local/bin/R (/usr/local/lib/R-1.3.1 and
/usr/local/bin/R-1.3.1 )and then set

[PATCH] drm/bochs: Fix the ID mismatch error
When running RISC-V QEMU with the Bochs device attached via PCIe the
probe of the Bochs device fails with:
[drm:bochs_hw_init] *ERROR* ID mismatch
This was introduced by this commit:
7780eb9ce8 bochs: convert to drm_dev_register
To fix the error we ensure that pci_enable_device() is called before
bochs_load().
