writing polygons/segments to shapefiles (.shp) or other A rcGIS compatible file
The main limitation of the shapefiles package that I put together is that it does not create shapefiles from R objects - rather it only writes shapefiles that have been read into R and manipulated within the constraints of the existing file structure. By this I mean that for example you can change the coordinates of points and write them back out. Or you can add a bunch of blank columns in the

Dear R experts, I am new to the list and R software. I need to convert arcview file to Winbugs having R has middle package. Got from friends that it is possible following the steps: 1. Converting arcview shapefile to "cgm clear text file" 2. Downloading "convert.r" to into R 2.1 use source("convert.r") 2.2 convert("filename_cgm") without the

maptools, filename writing shapefiles

map axis on projected shapefiles
Hi, I have overlayed 2 projected shapefiles using the "plot" function. When I plot them the numbers next to the x-axis ticks are printed in scientific format (e.g. -4e+05, -3e+05,...,), and the problem is these dont match up to the projected point locations I also wish to overlay from my dataset. For example, according to the x-axis ticks the prime meridian (0?) is in totally the

Reading Shapefiles
I am attempting to write what MATLAB does as : [S,A]= shaperead() which returns an N by 1 geographic array structure S containing geometric information, and a paralell N by 1 attribute structure array, A containing feature attribute information. How can this be done with R code I tried using shp<-readShapePoints() but this doesnt return the same structure that I am looking for. Please

PBSmapping and shapefiles
Hi, Is there a way, preferably with R, to read shapefiles and transform them in a format that I could then use with package PBSmapping? I have been able to read such files into R with maptools' read.shape and plot it with plot.Map, but I'd like to bring the data to PBSmapping and plot from there. I also looked at the package shapefile, but it does not seem to do what I want

importing shapefiles into spatstat
Dear R users, I am using spatstat to analyze point patterns (tree locations). I would like to import the shapefile with the study area polygons (six total) into R and use it to create the window for the spatstat analysis. I do not simply want to use a rectangle because the study areas spread out over 40000 ha. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Charlotte Reemts Charlotte

rgdal: Convert ESRI ArcGis geo database (gdb directory) to geojson, or shapefile map
Hello, I have an ESRI ArGis geo database directory which I would like to convert to geojson or a shape file (or anything else that I can read into R). Unfortunately that does not work out of the box with rgdal, because it does not come with the fileGDB or openfileGDB driver. I could successfully install gdal and the fileGDB driver/extension, but it seems that i can use gdal only to convert the

Arc/Info Ungenerate - shp - Maps
Hi list. I would like to know if someone had already successfully loaded and Arc/Info Ungenerated (.dat – extracted from http://rimmer.ngdc.noaa.gov/mgg/coast/getcoast.html) file on R. I’m able to do so with shape files using maptools functions, but these ungenerated data are making me crazy. I don’t have any of ArcGIS tools (one of them probably can do that), and I can’t find any free tool that

Plotting shapefiles on existing maps
Dear All, This is probably a very basic question but: I have plotted a map of the Barents Sea and surrounding coastline using: map('worldHires',ylim=c(50,85),xlim=c(5,65),fill=T,resolution=0) map.axes() map.scale(x=30,metric=T) Next, I imported a shapefile with depth contours for the sea: contours<-read.shape("D://My Documents/BarentsSea.shp",dbf.data=T) (This is in

plotting x y z data from an irregular grid
Hi, I'm trying to plot some data (z) that is linked to lat&long coordinates (x&y). These coordinates are not however on a regular grid. I also have some shapefiles on which I would like to overlay the data. I can plot the shapefiles (country/city outlines) and overplot the data, but only using quilt.plot because I otherwise always get the error message that 'Error in

Shapefiles
Dear List, I have examined the sp, maptools, and shapefiles packages (Windows) but cannot seem to figure out a solution for writing shapefiles for 'curvy shapes'. The scenario is that I generate a series of polygons, circles, and ellipses on a plot and would like to convert them to shapefiles. Since the circles and ellipses are do not return a coordinate list during the plotting
