Help with response CIs for lme
Hi,
Can someone please offer a procedure for going from CIs produced by
intervals.lme() to fixed-effects response CIs.
Here's a simple example:
library(mlmRev)
library(nlme)
hsb.lme <- lme(mAch ~ minrty * sector, random = ~ 1 | cses, Hsb82)
(intervals(hsb.lme))
(hsb.new <- data.frame
minrty = rep(c('No', 'Yes'), 2),
sector = rep(c('Public',

PNG-import into R
Hi there
I'm looking for a function to read PNG-bitmap-images from a file into R.
I only found:
- the pixmap-package which cannot import png or similar formats
- the rimage-package which can only import lossy jpeg-images (the
convertion from png to jpeg modifies the data!)
Is there any possibility to read PNG-files?
Thanks for any help

Reading a TIFF file
Dear all, I have been trying to speed up a process we have been done in ArcGIS. We have to read a single layer TIFF (monochrome image) in . For this, I have used the "rtiff" package. After reading the TIFF file, I compared the raw values for each pixel that I have in ArcGIS to the ones obtained in R. In ArcGIS I have discrete values in the range 0..255, while in R I have continuous

importing ascii grids (for gstat)
Hello,
Is there anyone who could give me an example of how to import an ascii grid (i.e. ArcGIS exported raster) into R. I want to use it with gstat but don't know the appropriate import routine.
Thanks very much for your help.

rstandard.glm() in base/R/lm.influence.R
I contacted John Fox about this first, because parts of the file are
attributed to him. He says that he didn't write rstandard.glm(), and
suggests asking r-devel.
As it stands, rstandard.glm() has summary(model)$dispersion outside the
sqrt(), while in rstandard.lm(), the sd is already sqrt()ed. This seems to
follow stdres() in VR/MASS/R/stdres.R.
Of course for the c("poisson",

How to create a "nb" object?
Hi group,
I'd like to do spatial analysis of my data using the spdep package. It appears that a file of class nb is necessary, but I do not find what that should look like and if there is a function that creates such file for me.
How can I create a nb-object of my data points?
Thanks,
René Eschen.

distance between two matrices
Hi all,
Say I have a matrix A with dimension m x 2 and matrix B with
dimension n x 2. I would like to find the row in A that is closest to
the each row in B. Here's an example (using a loop):
set.seed(1)
A <- matrix(runif(12), 6, 2) # 6 x 2
B <- matrix(runif(6), 3, 2) # 3 x 2
m <- vector("numeric", nrow(B))
for(j in 1:nrow(B)) {
d <- (A[, 1] - B[j, 1])^2 + (A[,

read.spss
I have loaded the foreign package and am still having problems with an import. I get a message that reads, unable to open file. Whe I try different files I get the same message. Here is the code I used. Am I missing something?
I am using 1.7 and have also tried this in 1.6 with the same problem.

how to read individual values from a pixmap object
Hi All,
I have a greyscale image that I am reading in through RGDAL and placing in a
pixmap object.
As an example use the logo.jpg file that comes with the RGDAL package:
#Read the file
logo <- system.file("pictures/logo.jpg", package="rgdal")[1]
x <- new("GDALReadOnlyDataset", logo)
#Create the pixmap object
xGrey <- getPixmapGDAL(x)
Now I would

Wrote new tiff package, would like big-endian tiffs for testing
Over the years I have noted a couple of people interested in an R package that will read tiff files. There were some valid arguments against (e.g. R is not an image editting suite, libtiff does not support all tiff files, etc.). True enough, when I want to work with family photos, I use Gimp. But in my research I use tiffs as data sets in the context of computational biology and molecular

postscript colors
Is color specification like this available in R for setting
postscript colors?
> hue <- c(0, seq(from = 0, by = 1/(nclass), length = nclass))
> sat <- c(0, rep(1.0, nclass))
> bri <- c(0, rep(1.0, nclass))
> zcolors <- cbind(hue, sat, bri)
> ps.options (setcolor=ps.setcolor.hsb,colors=zcolors)

display SVG, PNG, GIF, JPEG, TIFF, PPM in new plot frame
Dear R-help
I want to display an image file in a new plot frame.
SVG is my preferred format, but I can also consider
PNG, GIF, JPEG, TIFF, and PPM (from ImageMagick).
By way of background (although not material to this
posting), the image file is generated by a call to
'dot' (part of the 'Graphviz' suite) after the required
.dot file has been produced using hand-crafted R code.

Data for use in maps()
Dear all,
I am interested in plotting maps visualizing spatial statistics in an
aggregated fashion, according to administrative boundaries.
More specifically, I have fitted a cross-section model on data regarding
Italian "counties" (province, for Italian readers) and I would like to
visualize residual behavior on a map, in order to have a first
assessment of their spatial

conditional assignment
Hi all
I want to conditionally operate on certain elements of a matrix, let me
explain it with a simple vector example
> z<- c(1, 2, 3)
> zz <- c(0,0,0)
> null <- (z > 2) & ( zz <- z)
> zz
[1] 1 2 3
why zz is not (0, 0, 3) ?????
the null <- assignment is to keep the console silent
in the other hand, it curious that null has reasonable values

PPM to BMP converter
Dear all,
Several days ago, I posted How to write a bmp file pixel by pixel. Instead of bmp, I succeeded in writing a PPM file by using the pixmap package. Thanks for the hint generously provided by Uwe Ligges.
Now I have a new question. How to convert a PPM file to BMP file in R? I know I can do this in photoshop or by some other softwares, but I think if I Can do this in R, that

filled maps
Hi R-Help,
I would like to make filled contour maps of ocean data overlaid by
costlines from the map package.
I can draw the filled contours and the coastlines om the same plot, but
the filled contour also covers part of the land. To get rid of that I
tried to draw a filled coastline map on top of the filled contour, but
the filled map only draws the closed contours - so most of the land is

Statistics on raster pictures - asking for an advice
Hello, I need to do some basic statistics on raster images (tiff or
png). I need only an advice where to start, which package is the most
appropriate. My search attempts were without success, yet.
Many thanks
