Wrong header file in ttest.c (windlgs package).
Hi everyone, I've just installed "rw1040" and all the components necessary to compile packages for windows. I always try out my new installation on the provided package "windlgs" in order to ensure that everything is working. This time I ran into a small problem. Indeed, the second line of "ttest.c" includes a header file ("ga.h") which does not

error() and C++ destructors
Hi, I am writing C++ functions that are to be called via .Call() interface. I'd been using error() (from R.h) to return to R if there is an error, but then I realized that this might be not safe as supposedly error() doesn't throw an exception and therefore some destructors do not get called and some memory may leak. Here is a simple example extern "C" void foo() { string

How to write efficient R code
I have been lurking in this list a while and searching in the archives to find out how one learns to write fast R code. One solution seems to be to write part of the code not in R but in C. However after finding a benchmark article (http://www.sciviews.org/other/benchmark.htm) I have been more interested in making the R code itself more efficient. I would like to find more info about this. I have

Problem with "by": does not work with ttest (but with lme)
Hello, I would like to do a large number of e.g. 1000 paired ttest using the by-function. But instead of using only the data within the 1000 groups, R caclulates 1000 times the ttest for the full data set(The same happens with Wilcoxon test). However, the by-function works fine with the lme function. Did I just miss something or is it really not working? If not, is there any other possibility to

extracting pvalues from ttest
Hello list, I have a similar issue as this post http://tolstoy.newcastle.edu.au/R/e6/help/09/04/11438.html#options2 and I used the suggestion provided by Jorge with modifications to my data do.call(c,lapply(your_list_with_the_t_tests,function(x) x$p.value)) but I am getting the following error after excuting the code B<-by(eo,eo$PlateID, function(.sub) t.test(mcp1~Self_T1D,data=.sub,

Creating dialogs in Windows 9x
I noticed the See Also section of the help page for winDialog refers to a "package windlgs in the package source distribution..." but I can't seem to find any documentation on this. Does anyone know if it exists or where to find out more about it? Any information would be helpful, thanks. -------------------------------------------- Till E. Stoeckenius, Senior Consultant ENVIRON

Slow ttests in R-devel
Hello ... I've noticed that some of our Bioconductor code was running drastically slower under current R-devel vs. current R-patched - one example is below using a ttest. I have the following snippet of code that demonstrates the problem while avoiding "real" code that takes an extremely long time to finish on R-devel: library(genefilter) data(eset) eset$cov1 z <-

Troubles installing RMySQL on Win2K
What do I need to do to load the RMySQL library on Win 2K using version 1.8.1 I have Mysql v4.0.16 up and running on the local machine with several databases running fine. Using RGUI I have loaded RMySQL and an appropriate directory structure has appeared under C:\Program Files\R\rw1081\library\RMySQL I have added C:\Program Files\R\rw1081\library\RMySQL\inst\libs to my path variable so that

Loading R 1.8.1 (PR#5509)
I downloaded the latest Windows version 1.8.1 from http://www.stats.bris.ac.uk/R/ (21/11/03 R-1.8.1.tar then to-day the file is R-1.8.1.tgz) and from Windows unzipped the file. The directory R-1.8.1 is created (rather than rw1081) but no subdirectory 'bin'. I cannot see any .dll nor .exe files in the directory and I understand from Brian Ripley's page of 'R for Windows FAQ'

mean fold change issues and p values
I am new to R and have two scripts written slightly different but should to relatively the same thing but my lack of experience with the program I can not figure out the what I need to do to correct it. The first script gives me a consistent mean fold change values with every run but can generate negative p values for some. For the second version of the script, the fold changes seem to be very

Building packages in XP
R users, I recently upgraded (?) to Windows XP from 2000. I am trying to build an R package. I have done this many times on my old system and I am not sure why it is not working in XP. To build the package I call a bat file that specifies all the necessary paths -- but the "build" file (which appears to be a perl script) is looking for a "src" subdirectory in the src

interfacing C++ using .Call
Hi folks, I apologise if this is in the documentation somewhere, but I can't seem to find it. I also did a search of CRAN without any success. I'm using R-1.8.1 (pre-compiled) on Windows 2000 with Rtools and mingw 2.0.0 (which includes gcc/g++ 3.2). I'm trying to link some C++ code from another application to R using the .Call interface and am experiencing some problems. I was

tree version 1.0-16
Hi There is something weird going on with the "tree" package version 1.0-16. So I want to download an updated tree package. I found that R website has version 1.0-18. I want to try this one and see how the tree algorithm is performing. What is the best way to download tree package version 1.0-18 which can be found in index of src/contrib at www.r-project.org? building a "simple" R package
Dear R-ers: Recognizing that it is better to remain silent and have people think you stupid than to speak and remove any doubt, I fear that I must speak nonetheless. I am having the Devil's own time trying to make a simple R package for my own use. Yes, I have perused the FAQs and searched the archives. Yes, I have read "Writing R Extensions" and eventually divined what Rcmd

dotchart to barplots
Hi, I am trying to plot the following data so that it can be visually represented well. I tried the dotchart but I felt it was too spread out. Then I tried the barplot which is good enough for me. Is there a way to give the labels for the y-axis as in the dot chart? Also, I feel the grey level is confusing, so is there options for designs within the bars? I cannot use color as the journal wants
