paste function by INDICES
Dear all,
I have the following R dataframe:
set.seed(11)
(df <- data.frame(ID=rep(1:10,1:10),a=factor(sample(1:4,55,rep=T)) ))
where ID is an identification code.
I need to create a new variable "b" in which I would paste the full group
of "a" variable according to ID variable.
For example for ID=2 "b" should be 13, for ID=3 "b" should

Julian Dates
Hi,
I'm a bit confused how julian() works. If I understand right, it returns
the number of days since the origin.
I have a vector:

Julian dates
I am using the "chron" package. Can anyone tell me if there is a simple way
to convert a date object (obtained from the "dates" function) into a julian
date (using the "julian" function)?
Thanks, Al.

Graph with values of coordinates of points in x axis
Hi all,
I want to draw a line with the values of x marked in X axis.
I tried with
x <- c(0,6,12,18,24,30) #coordinates of points x
y <- c(2,5,7,5,7,16) #coordinates of points y
plot(x,type="n",xlab="Months",ylab="Y
values",main="main",ylim=c(0,16),xlim=c(0,30))
lines(x,y)
The graph shows by default an increment of the sequence in x axis that

Include C++ DLL, error in ...: C symbol name not in load table
Hello R experts
I am googling and reading around, however, I can't get it working
(perhaps because I do not understand much C, however, I'll give it
a try). I am trying to include C++ code into an R routine, where
the C++ code looks:
#include <iostream>
using namespace std;
void foo (double* x, double* y, double* out)
{
out[0] = x[0] + y[0];

Conflict between julian from base and from chron
I used to run the julian function from chron but this new version of R has
also a julian function in the base package that doesn't do exactly what I
need. Is there a way of telling R to run the function from chron and not
from base?
Thanks,
Fernando

interpolation
Dear R-users,
I have a complex line by xy-values (ordered by z).
And I would like to get interpolated y-values on the positions of x = 0:600.
How do I get the correct points?

Problem with Julian function
Dear all,
I have a problem with the function Julian, may be a bug in the function ?
Here is a vector of character, which represents dates (May 18 to May 20
2000):

Vectors of years, months, and days to dates?
The interface for dates in R is a little confusing to me.
I want to create a vector of Date objects from vectors of years, months, and
days.
One solution I found is:
years <- c(1991, 1992)
months <- c(1, 10)
days <- c(1, 2)
dates <- as.Date(ISOdate(years, months, days))
But, in this solution the ISOdate function converts the vectors into
characters,
which can cause serious

I am trying to use HMisc describe on a data frame. I have specified certain
variables as dates using, for example:
df1$aidsdate <- dates(aidsdate,format="day.mon.year", origin=c(month = 1,
day = 1, year = 1960))
When I use describe on the dataframe I get this error:

all packages. My problem is that "dates" function from its, that my
code heavely uses is now masked by "dates" from chron.
How can I specify tehat I want to use dates from its or how can I
prevent it from being masked?

Processing calendar dates with R
I am a beginner in R with a background in SAS.
Are there built-in R methods of reading dates for calculating elapsed days
between two calendar dates? If so, are there any examples I can browse?
Thanks in anticipation.

Default Format for Dates?
Is there anyway to preset date formats? I have a date from a cover.dbf
that is shown as this:

The numeric value in cover$FINALREPOR is 12227. I'd rather not create
another vector to hold the properly formatted date.
When I put this in a WordPerfect merge, I want the date to be June 24,
2003. I could take care of the problem in a

dates() is a great date function in R
Proper calendar dates in R are great for plotting and calculating.
However for the non-wonks among us, they can be very frustrating.
I have recently discussed the pains that people in my lab have had
with dates in R. Especially the frustration of bringing date data into R
from Excel, which we have to do a lot.
Please find below a simple analgesic for R date importation that I
