Using RGDAL to "copy" header information...
R-geographers... I'm trying to solve a problem to implement a line-by-line tiled processing using RGDAL (read 1 line of an image, process the one line, write one line of the image to a binary file). Everything except for the final step I'm able to do using a combination of RGDAL and r-base commands. Below is the basic structure, the input file "elev" can be any image file

portable parallel seeds project: request for critiques
I've got another edition of my simulation replication framework. I'm attaching 2 R files and pasting in the readme. I would especially like to know if I'm doing anything that breaks .Random.seed or other things that R's parallel uses in the environment. In case you don't want to wrestle with attachments, the same files are online in our SVN

how to read individual values from a pixmap object
Hi All, I have a greyscale image that I am reading in through RGDAL and placing in a pixmap object. As an example use the logo.jpg file that comes with the RGDAL package: #Read the file logo <- system.file("pictures/logo.jpg", package="rgdal")[1] x <- new("GDALReadOnlyDataset", logo) #Create the pixmap object xGrey <- getPixmapGDAL(x) Now I would

Announcing snowFT 0.1
Parallel programming with snowFT Our package snowFT is now available at CRAN. It is an extention of the package snow, which adds fault tolerance (in the sense of recomputing computational units when hardware/network failures occur on compute nodes) and a tighter notion of reproducibility for computations running on clusters. It additionally provides tools for flexible management of cluster size

display SVG, PNG, GIF, JPEG, TIFF, PPM in new plot frame
Dear R-help I want to display an image file in a new plot frame. SVG is my preferred format, but I can also consider PNG, GIF, JPEG, TIFF, and PPM (from ImageMagick). By way of background (although not material to this posting), the image file is generated by a call to 'dot' (part of the 'Graphviz' suite) after the required .dot file has been produced using hand-crafted R code.

PNG-import into R
Hi there I'm looking for a function to read PNG-bitmap-images from a file into R. I only found: - the pixmap-package which cannot import png or similar formats - the rimage-package which can only import lossy jpeg-images (the convertion from png to jpeg modifies the data!) Is there any possibility to read PNG-files? Thanks for any help Dominic Sydler

Installing RGtk2 on Mac OS
I'm having trouble to install RGtk2 (from source) on Mac OS 10.4.11 (R 2.9.0). The GTK libraries (2.12.11) were installed into /sw/lib via fink. Even if I set the GTK_LIBS to that path, the installation program doesn't seem to find it (see below). libglade is there too but not found. If I install the package from binaries, it fails on load. Would anybody know how to make it work?

But the first image canĀ“t be read on my system because if memory limitation (I have about 2GB availabe). So I would like hear from you if anyone have some suggestin in this regards. I have also ArcGis 8.6 ans Erdas 8.3

How to construct a valid seed for l'Ecuyer's method with given .Random.seed?
Dear expeRts, I struggle with the following problem using snow clusters for parallel computing: I would like to specify l'Ecuyer's random number generator. Base R creates a .Random.seed of length 7, the first value indicating the kind fo random number generator. I would thus like to use the components 2 to 7 as the seed for l'Ecuyer's random number generator. By doing so, I

(Parallel) Random number seed question...
Hi All, I have k identical parallel pieces of code running, each using n.rand random numbers.? I would like to use the same RNG (for now), and set the seeds so that I can guarantee that there are no overlaps in the random numbers sampled by the k pieces of code.? Another side goal is to have reproducibility of my results.? In?the past I have used C with SPRNG for this task, but I'm hoping

You have not supplied a complete example, which would be good in this case because what you are suggesting could be a serious bug in R or a package. generating a SpatialLinesDataFrame (rgdal)
Could somebody give me a pointer on how to generate a SpatialLinesDataFrame from a dataframe, that contains lat, long coordinates as separate variables. At the moment the data looks like this: lat long [1] 53.xxxx 1.xxxx where as the SpatialLinesDataFrame consists of Coordinates [1] (53.xxx, 1.xxx) This is probably a trival issue, but I'm a relatively new user and

Help: how to install "rgdal package" on Ubuntu desktop?
Dear groups: I have tried to install rgdal in my Ubuntu, but it is not as straight as installing "sp". It demand the pre-installed GDAL and proj.4. I searched the source code in http://trac.osgeo.org/proj/ and http://trac.osgeo.org/gdal/wiki/DownloadSource. but don't know how to compile them. Who will give me a hint? Thanks a lot. rgdal: Convert ESRI ArcGis geo database (gdb directory) to geojson, or shapefile map
Hello, I have an ESRI ArGis geo database directory which I would like to convert to geojson or a shape file (or anything else that I can read into R). Unfortunately that does not work out of the box with rgdal, because it does not come with the fileGDB or openfileGDB driver. I could successfully install gdal and the fileGDB driver/extension, but it seems that i can use gdal only to convert the

Package rgdal
Hi It was quite tricky to install package rgdal, needed to try a few times installing different gdal and proj debian packages... If feel it is one of the complicated package that deserve an automatic install... Do you think it would be possible to have once this package on r-cran- ? Or on the ppa you were mentioning Michael? Would be so nice and helpful!!! Thanks a lot Matthieu
