what is used as height in hclust for ward linkage?
Dear R community, I am trying to understand how the ward linkage works from a quantitative point of view. To test it I have devised a simple 3-members set: G = c(0,2,10) The distances between all couples are: d(0,2) = 2 d(0,10) = 10 d(2,10) = 8 The smallest distance corresponds to merging 0 and 2. The corresponding ESS are: ESS(0,2) = 2*var(c(0,2)) = 4 ESS(0,10)

Ward clustering problem
I have a training set of data for known classes with 5 observations of 12 variables for each class. I want to use this information to classify new data into classes which are known to be different to those in the training set but each new class may contain one or more observations. The distribution of within class distances is expected to be similar for all classes and this is found to be the

calculation of inertial difference with huygens theorem in ward clustering ?
Hello to the R people, within ward clustering the distance calculated to decide the clustering of 2 subsets (h1 and h2) is the variation of inertia : d(h1,h2)=I(h1Uh2)-I(h1)-I(h2); i've been said that a way to calculate faster this d(h1,h2) is using the huygens theorem decomposing the inertia into "the inertia to the centroid + the distance to an axe" (that's my version ...). RNN Algorithm for Ward Clustering ?
Hi R people, i'm looking for the Reciprocal Nearest Neighbour algorithm applied to Ward clustering; I know that it is explained in details in the following book: Downs, G. M.; Willett, P. In Advanced Computer-Assisted Techniques in Drug Discovery; van de Waterbeemd, H., Ed.; VCH: Weinheim, 1994; Vol. 3. but cannot order copies it without knowing the pages involved; could someone

Camping with Dr. Nic
Campers. Dr. Nic. The new migrations in Camping''s trunk are very nice. They also open the door (just an inch) to using Dr. Nic''s Magic Models with Camping. Here''s my stab at ''er: http://require.errtheblog.com/camping/blog.rb Run that against Camping trunk. Don''t forget to `sudo gem install dr_nic_magic_models`. The hackery is in

[BTS] Dr Nic''s Magic Models - Class creation
For anyone interesting in some meta-programming ideas, I''ve written up a short explanation about the Class Creation feature of Dr Nic''s Magic Models. I know most forum posts start with "How do I..." but thought it might be interesting reading for the ppl who answer the forum posts that start with "How do I..." :)

dr ()
Hi all-- A quick question about the dr () function. I am using this function to reduce the dimensions of a data set I have that involves 14 predictor variables and one predictant or response. The goal is to discover which variables play the most important role in determining the response and, thus, to reduce the variables. I would like to use the sliced inverse regression method (SIR) within

DR hot/warm spare node patterns / anti-patterns?
With our without puppet. We are looking at setting up DR nodes with some draft ideas. We use puppet against a git repository (with ppg) instead of against a puppet server. Nodes are actually VMs. Configuration ideas: - a filesystem-level flag that indicates that the node is running as standby spare, to use as conditional in bash/python scripts as well as in puppet - some services

Hi Wondering if there are known tools out there for doing block level replication of linux systems? There is a product for windows called Double Take that seems quite good but doe not work with Linux. Anyone know? thanks

[OT] DR
I remember a thread many months ago where someone asked about a disaster recovery template or guide and several people on this list linked some really good content. I can't seem to find that thread now and neglected to make note of the links but I do recall that some of the guides came from a site that had many other "industry best practices" type guides. Any insight here or do you

Samba. DR-DOS and Terabytes...
Hi, We have just built a server with a terabyte of storage for a powerquest deploycenter file server, the deploycenter boot disks start Caldera DR-DOS 7.02 for the actual deploycenter software to run under. We run Linux 7.3 with the samba that ships with that version (sorry, I can't remember off hand and don't have access to a linux box right now) The problem I have is that the

Is package "dr" appropriate for reducing the dimensionality of molecules conformational space ?
I anticipate lacking of prior experience with dimensionality reduction problems. Some scientists concerned with drug discovery performed several steered Molecular Dynamics simulations of the alanine-dipeptide molecule dragged by a radial force from an equilibrium conformation to another different equilibrium conformation. They sampled at regular intervals 7 dihedral angles, 5 bending angles, and

Geo replication procedure for DR
Hello, I was reading the geo replication documentation here: https://docs.gluster.org/en/main/Administrator-Guide/Geo-Replication/ and I was wondering how it works when in case of disaster recovery when the primary cluster is down and the the secondary site with the volume needs to be used? What is the procedure here to make the secondary volume on the secondary site available for read/write?

[URGENT] Assistance Requested in Looking for Dr Francis T. Seow, Harvard Law School Research Fellow
Hi, First, I would like to apologize for the out-of-topic post. I will keep this as short as I possibly could. Does anybody know Dr. Francis T. Seow, the former Solicitor-General from the Republic of Singapore? I want to contact him but can't seem to find his email address or telephone number on the internet. Could you help me? Do you also know how I can contact all the justices of the

DR Server for Windows Machines
I need to setup a CentOS box offsite to have a series of files replicated to it. My problem is this machine won't have Samba on it but I need to replicate the hierarchy in question in such a manner that I can restore from it and retain file system permissions. That's where I am stumped, anyone got any ideas? Thanks, jlc
