'nls' and its arguments
Dear R experts!
I'd to fit data by 'nls' with me-supplied function 'fcn'.
1) I'd like 'fcn' to accept arbitrary arguments, i.e. I defined it
as f(...) {<body>}. (Ok, that's not actually impotant).
2) Second, I would NOT like to supply every parameter in the formula.
To illustrate this, let's look at the last example of 'nls' help

Weighted nls
Dear R Community,
I am attempting to perform a weighted non-linear least squares fit. It has already been noted that the weights option is not yet implemented for the nls function, but no one seems to offer any suggestions for getting around this problem. I am still curious if a) anyone has code they have written which includes a weight options for nls, or b) if there is another model which

Nonlinear Regression
Hello
I followed the example in page 59, chapter 11 of the 'Introduction to R'
manual. I entered my own x,y data. I used the least squares. My function has
5 parameters: p[1], p[2], p[3], p[4], p[5]. I plotted the x-y data. Then I
used lines(spline(xfit, yfit)) to overlay best curves on the data while
changing the parameters. My question is how do I calculate the residual sum
of squares.

Link-dest thinks file is newly created, but it isn't
Hi:
I've been using rsync for a couple years now. Unfortunately, I've made some
changes on both ends, so it's unclear what could be the culprit. I make
extensive use of --link-dest to provide a cheap "Time Machine"-like backup
for a Windows machine.

parameters' value
Hi, I am a new user of R. I am trying to use R to do some nonlinear modeling. However, I can not find how to get the parameters's value back.
Here is the code in S-plus:
ycos1.nl <- nls(y ~ m +ac*cos(2*pi*f*t) +as*sin(2*pi*f*t), start=nl.st, trace=T)
## store model info after satisfactory model has been found
cNL1 <- c(ycos1.nl$parameters[1:3],0)
What is same code in R?
Thanks a

A question on memory size
Hi,
I am using a note book computer to do simulation. Even I added a commend
line in the shortcut on my desktop for R. I still get a message saying
reached total memory allocation of 502 Mb. Any suggestions will be welcome.

How to eliminate for next loops in this script
I needed to compute a complicated cross tabulation to show weighted means
and standard deviations and the only method I could get that worked uses a
series of nested for next loops. I know that there must be a better way to
do so, but could use some assistance pointing the way.
Here is my working, but inefficient script:

rm(list=ls())
load('NHTS.Rdata')

OCFS2 1.2/1.6
We are in the process of migrating to new database servers. Our current
RAC clusters are running OCFS2 1.2.9 on RHEL 4. Our new servers are
running OCFS2 1.6 OEL5. If possible, we would like to minimize the
amount of data that needs to move as we migrate to the new servers. We
have the following questions:
1. Can we mount an existing OCFS2 1.2 volume on a servers running
OCFS2 1.6?

Fwd: --link-dest does not appear to be linking on Cygwin
Hi:
I have attempted to following some instructions to use --link-dest in
order to preserve space for multiple backups. I'm using rsync on
Cygwin with a NAS (ext4) which does support hard-links on the
filesystem. I've written a short program that does attempt to create a
hard-link on this NAS from Cygwin and it does look to be working. If I
run ls -li on the NAS the inodes are the same.

Using indexing to manipulate data
I know one of R's advantages is it's ability to index, eliminating the need
for control loops to select relevant data, so I thought this problem would
be easy. I can't crack it. I have looked through past postings, but
nothing seems to match this problem
I have a data set with one column of actors and one column of acts. I need
a list that will give me a pair of actors in each row,
