About PLS analysis
Dear colleagues,
May you point me out to the PLS module in R system?
I could not find it at all using "PLS" or "partial" as the search keywords.
Thank you.
Sokratis.

During resizing of 'R Console' windows the fatal error of forbidden memory
access appears.
To reproduce that with a guaranty, resize windows by mouse with small steps.
Probably the faster computer is, the earlier that event appears. I have PIV 1.8

New version of Subselect package
Version 0.9-99 of package "subselect" is now on CRAN.
The subselect package has functions that search for k-variable subsets
of a p-variable (p>k) data set that are optimal under some
criterion. Search algorithms include a full search algorithm "leaps",
based on Furnival and Wilson's leaps and bounds algorithm, and three
random search algorithms: a genetic algorithm

help for memory problem with 64-bit machines
Hello,
I would appreciate *any* ideas on this problem. I'm the maintainer of a
package ("subselect"), which on CRAN's Daily Package Checks is OK on all
flavours of R, except r-devel Linux x86_64, where there is a "memory not
mapped" segfault with the very first example that is tried out (output below).
Additionally, a user with an AMD64 machine has just reported a

How to optimize function parameters?
Hi,
I have a dataset and I want to fit a function to it.
The function is variogram model (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Variogram)
The variogram model is defined by three parameters and I want them to be
automatically optimized for real time data.
I tried to use gafit {gafit} for this, but there are some data
configuration, where optimal results given by gafit() are negative, which is
not correct

a problem loading package 'subselect'
Hi,
I downloaded the subselect package from CRAN and installed it in the
system wide R library path. During installation the package compiled the
fortran sources with no errors.
However, when loading the library gives me an error:
> library(subselect)
Error in dyn.load(x, as.logical(local), as.logical(now)) :

sub set selection
hi all
is there a package that undertakes subset selection but BASED ON AIC or
any other information criteria.
i've seen the "subselect" and the "leaps" package but i have not played
around with them yet.
thanx

Problem in loading all packages all at once
Hi All
Please see the Rprofile file which i have modified as follows and after
that when I start R then I see that R says to me "TRUE" for all the
packages implying that all loaded at once.
But when i try to use commands as simple as help("lm"), it doesnt work nor
any of the menu "Packages" is not working.
Although the regression using lm ( Y ~ X ) is working

subset selection for logistic regression
R-packages leaps and subselect implement various methods of selecting best or
good subsets of predictor variables for linear regression models, but they do
not seem to be applicable to logistic regression models.
Does anyone know of software for finding good subsets of predictor variables for
linear regression models?
Thanks.

genetic algorithm
Hi,
I am doing some research on feature selection for classfication
problem using genetic algorithm in a wrapper approach. I am wondering
if there is some package which is already built for this purpose. I
was advised before about dprep package but I don't think it used GA
there (if I am wrong, please correct me!)
Thanks,

genoud nonlinear least squares optimisation
Hello,
I am trying to optimise a nonlinear model to derive 'best-fit' parameter
esimates using the genoud function. I have been using the genetic algorithm
- gafit - in order to do this, but I am getting parameter estimates that do
not always reach the global minimum. I am very keen to apply genoud to
optimising this model to see if my results will improve, and also out of

tapply syntax
Dear R-help members,
Apologies for the trouble.
I have a question :
Essentially, I have a dataset which stores genetic variations for individual
patients. Each individual patient can have more than one variation, and each
new record corresponds to a new variation (thus, both individual patients
and variations are non-unique).
So the dataset looks something like this ((letters = patients,

Memory leak in R v1.5.1?
Hi,
I am trying to minimize a rather complex function of 5 parameters with
gafit and nlm. Besides some problems with both optimization algorithms
(with respect to consistantly generating similar results), I tried to
run this optimization about a hundred times for yet two other parameters.
Unfortunately, as the log below shows, during that batch process R
starts to eat up all my RAM,
