Partial Least Squares
Friends,
Is there a Partial Least Squares package implemented in R?
Thanks,

Statistical analysis of huge datasets.
Dear R-users,
I am faced with the problem of analyzing a huge dataset (+ 2 million
records, +150 variables) which does not fit into memory. I would like to
know if there are pre-packaged tools (in the spirit of Insigthful
I-Miner, for instance) aimed at subsampling or splitting the dataset
into data-frameable subdatasets, applying functions record-wise, etc.
Thank you very much for your

everything seems to be in order, but I obtaining a

nipals in the chemometrics package in R
Hello
i need some precision about nipals in the chemometrics package in R .
When i use nipals in chemometrics i obtain T and P matrix.
I really don't understand what to do with these two matrix to obtain
the scores for every the component (like in spss fo example)

R-icon for RH Linux 9.
Dear R helpers,
It is the first time I have to install R under Linux (Red Hat 9) and as
I was setting up the panels, I could not find any png icon to launch the
program. Does it exist and I have overlooked it? Can I get it somewhere?

Partial Least Squares
Hi everybody!
Is there any package or functions to make Partial Least Squares
analysis with R?
Thanks a lot

efficient code - yet another question
Dear list members;
The code given below corresponds to the PCA-NIPALS (principal
component analysis) algorithm adapted from the nipals function in the
package chemometrics. The reason for using NIPALS instead of SVD is
the ability of this algorithm to handle missing values, but that's a
different story. I've been trying to find a way to improve (if
possible) the efficiency of the code,

PLS regression?
Hi all,
I would like to do some QSAR analysis (quantitative structure activity
relationship). I need to use some Partial Least Squares (PLS) regression,
but I have not seen this option on the R-project. Is it possible to do this
kind of regression on R?
thank you in advance
best regards,

univariate normal mixtures
Hello,
I have a concrete statistical question:
I have a sample of an univariate mixture of an unknown number (k) of
normal distributions, each time with an unknown mean `m_i' and a
standard deviation `k * m_i', where k is known factor constant for all
the normal distributions. (The `i' is a subscript.)
Is there a function in R that can estimate the number of normal
distributions k

superimpose histogram on biplot
Hi all,
I've been trying to figure out how to superimpose a histogram on a
biplot that shows the relative contribution of each axis. I have
been using the NIPALS function (http://biomserv.univ-lyon1.fr/~dray/
files/softwares/nipals.R) to run principal component analyses. Here
is a toy example.

DataEntryWindow
When I originally posted my question under ( C-c C-c does not kill data

I have tried to do the same from a command line R (R 1.8.1 (2003-11-21).
on a debian testing i386 machine) and I got the same problem.
Specifically I cannot kill the DataEntryWindow by issuing C-c (control c).
However, unless I issue the C-c command the

non-ideal behavior in princomp
This problem is not limited to R, but R is one of the packages in which it
arises.
princomp is a nice function which creates an object for which inspection
methods have been written.
Unfortunately, princomp does not admit cases in which the x matrix is wider
than high (i. e. more variables than observations). Such cases are typical
in spectroscopy and related disciplines. It would be nice if the

PCA with not non-negative definite covariance
Am I correct to understand from the previous discussions on this topic (a
few years back) that if I have a matrix with missing values my PCA options
seem dismal if:
(1) I don’t want to impute the missing values.
(2) I don’t want to completely remove cases with missing values.
(3) I do cov() with use=”pairwise.complete.obs”, as this produces
negative eigenvalues (which it has in

Principal Components for matrices with NA
Hello,
I have a matrix with 267 columns, all rows of which have at least one
column missing (NA).
All three methods i've tried (pcs, princomp, and prcomp) fail with either
"Error in svd(zsmall) : infinite or missing values in 'x'" (latter two)
or
"Error in cov.wt(z) : 'x' must contain finite values only"
The last one happens because of the check

Very weird behaviour after moving from 32 to 64 bit..
Today I decided to reintall Ubuntu on my PC, going from Lucid Linx 32 bit to a clean install of the 64 bit version..
I'm a huge fan of casual games, and now I have a number of problems with them.
At first I could get NOTHING to work, after a couple of tries I finally get something to work, I can have Braid working, but I can't seem to make Plat versus Zombies work, I managed to make

shaping passive ftp traffic
Hi,
I have tried unsuccesfully to limit my ftp server send speed in linux.
I have an ipcop linux firewall/router with 2 nics. 1 nic (eth1) is
connected to a 3mbit/384Kbit cable connection and the other (eth0) a
switch. Behind it i have a suse linux box and a windows box.
On the suse box i run proftpd. I need to shape my passive ftp send
speed to 34KBytes because if it is maxed out at 45K

PLS in R and SAS
Dear all:
I am comparing the PLS outputs of R and SAS for the following data set:
Y x1 x2 x3
3 6 2 2
3 1 5 5
4 7 4 1
5 6 5 6
2 4 3 2
8 5 0 9
where Y is the dependent variable and x1, x2, x3 are the independent variables. I found several PLS algorithms in R (NIPALS,SIMPLS,KERNEL PLS). SAS has SIMPLS and NIPALS.
The following are the NIPALS calculations of
