Visualising Vectors
I sent a mail last week asking for some advise in relation to displaying
wind vectors on a contour map of a region. Whilst I have had some useful
feedback relating to the second part of this question (namely how to
animate a time series of still frames), I haven't recieved any advise on
how I might create the still images of the spatially distributed wind
vector data at any given time point.

Prototype - Firefox - Slow On Just One Page
I''m using Prototype/Scriptaculous on a large web app. Everything runs
briskly in IE, and everything runs briskly in Firefox except for one
page. On this page, only in Firefox, any code that touches Prototype
runs very, very slowly. In particular:
I use Effect.BlindDown/BlindUp for dropdown menus. Same html and css
on all pages. Flies along on all the other pages; here BlindDown

Visualising the effects of PCAs
Hi,
this may sound like a very stupid question and perhaps it is, so I
apologise in advance if anyone feels bored by it.
I have done some principal component analysis with prcomp and what I
would like to do is to visualise the effect of a principal component,
i.e. show a graph of my data and then show how that graph would change
if I go, let's say, one standard deviation, in either

Interpreting and visualising lme results
Dear R users,
I have used the following function (in blue) aiming to find the linear regression between MOE and XLA and nesting my data by Species. I have obtained the following results (in green).

vectors on top of contours, and lattice
OK, I needed to plot a set of vectors on top of a contour plot. I
figured out a way to do this. I create a panel function that calls
"larrows()" with arguments constructed from my vector data. Then, when
I go to do the contour plot, I call contourplot() with the "panel"
argument set to point to my newly created panel function.
So far, so good.
Now, I need to do a

ImageScience, Mini-Magick and RMagick
I''m going to be generating thumbnails from user uploaded images. I''m
looking around at the libraries available to do this sort of thing and
there are three that look promising.
ImageScience -- http://seattlerb.rubyforge.org/ImageScience.html
Mini-Magick -- http://rubyforge.org/projects/mini-magick/

Help on loop
Hey,
I have got a script that returns a long list of font family names, which
I all want to store in a variable (array). I tried doing this with @f =
font.family also in the for loop below but it only prints the last item
when I want to display the results.
require ''rubygems''
require ''RMagick''
include Magick
for font in Magick.fonts
puts font.family

Attachment_fu - watermark tmp file before saved to S3
Hi there,
I''d like to use RMagick to watermark an image in the tmp directory
before Attachment_fu saves it to Amazon S3.
I took a look at the callbacks available in attachment_fu. There''s an
''after_attachment_saved'' method but this would be too late, and a
''before_thumbnail_saved'' but this is no good because it''s for
thumbnails.

HOW to Create Movies with R with repeated plot()?
Dear R-helpers,
Is it possible to create a type of 'movie' in R based on the output of
several figures (e.g., jpegs) via the plot() function. I obtained dynamic
results with the plotting function and would like to save these as a movie
(e.g., avi or other formats)?
Regards,
Jan

File_Column w/ Dynamic Sizing
I''m running file_column 0.3.1, and having a few problems... which are:
- Uploading a 378x567 jpg, and using :magick => {:geometry =>
"100x100" }, my image ends up being 67x100 ?
Is there a way to "force" the image to be the size you specify ?
- My view has a drop-down of sizes, and I''m trying to pass in this
size into :magick =>

file_column imagemagick strangeness
Hi,
I''m using the basic magick features of file_column,
and while files are uploading fine without the magick options, as soon as I do something like
:magick => { :size => "400x600" }
I get an ''invalid file'' error.
Further investigation reveals that the file is in fact invalid because something somewhere is truncating the file path:

file_column: patched for imagemagick and validation
Hi all,
I patched file_column to add imagemagick transformations of uploaded
content. I added an options hash, and it takes the :magick and
:format keys. :magick is a string of imagemagick command line options
for convert (Reference:
http://www.imagemagick.org/script/convert.php). Format is an optional
extension for the finished image. If Imagemagick recognizes the
extension, then it will

Panning map to a point vs. setCenter
Several map providers have functions to pan to a location, as opposed
to the direct setCenter call. Panning animates the move from one point
to another. To implement this in mapstraction, I created a panCenter
function.
I don''t know how to go about committing the change to svn, or who
decides whether my naming convention is worthy, but I thought I''d
share the function

Frustrating "require" problems with RMagick
I am using RMagick in my app and am having problems in deployment. The
deployment machine (Fedora Core 5) can''t find RMagick unless I change
the "require" syntax from that used on the dev machine (OS X). And the
dev machine doesn''t like the syntax that works on the deployment server!
To wit:
