Connecting to database on statup
Hello, Q/ Is it possible to create a DBMS connection automatically on startup of R? (Making sure of course that the db server has been started...) I am running MySQL on Mac OS X 10.4.2 with R2.4.1. I have tried to write a function using the RMySQL commands (below) and place them in .First of .RProfile: drv <- dbDriver("MySQL") dbcon <- dbConnect(drv, {other parameters present in

How to create ff objects from database connection
Hi Does anybody know how to create ff objects with data reading from stream objects, such as data reading from PostgreSQL database through RPostgreSQL. For this purpose although we can save the data to a csv file through external tools and then read it through csv readers, but it requires one more data read and write operation, which is of high I/O cost for large datasets. RMySQL's column limit
Dear R-users, First, thank you to the developers for the very useful R-library RMySQL. While using this library a recieved an error message: RS-DBI driver: (could not run statement: Too many columns) The statement that generated the error was: dbWriteTable(dbcon, "simdataseries", template, overwrite = TRUE, row.names = FALSE ) I am assuming this is a RMySQL rather than MySQL limit.

some helpful tips on using RODBC
Hey everyone, I don't have a question. Instead some helpful advice with things I've learned from trying to connect 'R' to databases using RODBC. ROBDC is a very handy tool that, once you have everything fixed up nicely, is a great way to have scripts run fairly autonomously, safe in the knowledge that data isn't accidentally messed up. But I was fairly ignorant

*varTypes an optional named character vector giving the DBMSs datatypes to be used for* *some (or all) of the columns if a table is to be

Problem with RMA using limma, oligo and pdInfoBuilder packages
Hi, I am a Ph.D. student from Québec, Canada. I’m a beginner with R and Bioconductor. Until now the only experience I have is in analyzing microarray data using affy and limma packages. Now I am trying to analyze Rat Gene 10 st arrays and I would like to run RMA analysis and Smyth moderated t test on those arrays. Since no cdf official package is available for those arrays, after reading many

Should Join Discussion - Fwd: [whatwg] Give guidance about RFC 4281 codecs parameter
Hello, You guys might want to join this discussion. (And maybe some others too.) On the WhatWG mailing list, there's been a fury of e-mails about adding a <video> element to HTML5. They're talking about codecs and containers now. It might be helpful to have your representatives there. And help shape things. See ya ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Dave Singer

conf int mixed effects
Hi, I have a linear mixed-effects model object and want to extract the 95% confidence intervals for the fixed and random effects, respectively. I found the function intervals() for confidence intervals for the fixed effects but no corresponding function for the random effects. Does it exist or do I have to calculate the confidence intervals for the random effects myself? Greetings, joerg

wolfinger microarray normalization
Hi, concerning my earlier mail, maybe someone has noted from the variable names that I try to analyse mircoarrary experiments. Does anybody know of a R-implementation of the two-step mixed-model normalization procedure proposed by Wolfinger et al. (2001) J. Comput. Biol. 8:625-637? That would be great, best, joerg

robust regression
Hi, trying to do a robudt regression of a two-way linear model, I keep getting the following error: > lqs(obs ~ y + s -1,method="lms", contrasts=list(s=("contr.sum"))) Error: lqs failed: all the samples were singular Robust regression with M-estimators works (also regular least square fits, of course): rlm.formula(formula = obs ~ y + s - 1, method = "M",

Making Home Directory available for Windows Users
Hello, Situation: We are in a school class every student logs on with the same account. Until now we had Shares that were accessable for everybody and it was therefore possible to look into and edit/delete other's files. Plan: Create a share that can be clicked on which then asks for User/Pass and directly maps to the User's home Directory upon auth. User auth is done through LDAP

combined random effects
Hi, I have the following linear mixed model: y(g,i,j,k,l)=u + L(g) + T(i) + D(j) + S(k) + (TS)(i,k) + error(g,i,j,k,l) where S(k) and the combined effect (TS)(i,k) are random effects whereas the rest are fixed effects. How do I specifiy the random part of the model formula in lme(), especially concerning the combined effect (TS)? Moreover, when I run the model as a fixed effect model I get

XML Packge for Windows XP and R 2.12.
Hello, I am looking for the XML Package for Windows or any package, which would enable me to use the function "xmlTreeParse". In a thread dating from 2001, the same question is raised: >>Griffith Feeney wrote: >> >> Has anyone gotten the XML package (R News 1-1:24) with R running on Windows >> (95 or 98 or 2000)? I've looked at the omegahat, expat and libxml
