Fitting binomial lmer-model, high deviance and low logLik
Hello I have a problem when fitting a mixed generalised linear model with the lmer-function in the Matrix package, version 0.98-7. I have a respons variable (sfox) that is 1 or 0, whether a roe deer fawn is killed or not by red fox. This is expected to be related to e.g. the density of red fox (roefoxratio) or other variables. In addition, we account for family effects by adding the mother

Bug with Cor(..., method='spearman") and by() (PR#9921)
I posted this on R help, and a few others responded indicating they too were able to replicate the error as a function of missing data. I believe this should not be the case and hence and reporting it here. ### Code provided on R-Help by Ivar Herfindal # Simulate data testdata <- cbind.data.frame(gr=3Drep(letters[1:4], each=3D5), = aa=3Drnorm(20), bb=3Drnorm(20)) # Introduce some missingness

Possible bug in "unsplit" (PR#14084)
Dear R-bug-people I have encountered a problem with "unsplit", which I believe may be caused by a bug in the function. However, unexpericend with bug-reports I apologise if this is barely a user problem rather than a problem within R. The problem occurs if an object is split by several grouping factors with levels not occuring in the data, and using drop = TRUE. This may appear as

Reading in a table with ISO-latin1 encoding in MacOS-X (Intel)
Dear colleages in R, I have earlier been working with R in Linux, where reading in a table containing Scandinavian letters ("?", "?", and "?") in the header as part of variable names has not caused any problem whatsoever. However, when trying to do the same in R running on new MacOS-X (with an Intel processor) with the same original text table does not seem to

scandinavian letters or charset problem?
Hi! This teamware mailclient (teamware.com) that we use at the office has problems adding files as attachments from our Samba 3.0.2a share. The attachment file browser sees the files but fails to add them as attachments (with an error message: "valid.stf - file not found" regardless of the file name in question). I tracked this thing down to scandinavian letters (if your mail

Std Err on Concentration measures
Hi, I'm using the ineq package to calculate some concentration measures (Gini, Herfindal, ...) and I was wondering if there's around also a function to calculate standard error on these measures. If not, is anybody aware of where I can find a reference on this point? Thanks. -- ======================================================== Angelo Secchi PGP Key ID:EA280337

USA map
R users, In S, there was a function called usa() that would draw the map of the United States, plus it had other options for graphics. I have looked but I can't find the equivalent in R. Is there one? Thanks, Jason

data frames with å, ä, and ö (=non-ASCII-characters) from windows to mac os x
Hi, I ran into this issue previously and managed to solve it, but I've forgotten how and am getting frustrated... I have a data frame (see below) with scandinavian characters in R (2.7.1) running on a Win Xp-computer. I save the data frame in an RData-file on a usb stick, and load() it in R (2.8.0) running on OS X 10.5. Now the name of the data frame and all factor labels with scandinavian

Proportional axes
Hi! If I'm plotting 2 variables with the same units (i.e. wing length of 2 species), how can I force that X and Y axes have the same size for length unit? For example, if X ranges from 0 to 10 and Y ranges from 10 to 30, I want Y axis to be twice as long as X axis. I know I can just put xlim and ylim from 0 to 30, i.e., plot(runif(10,0,10),runif(10,10,30),xlim=c(0,30),ylim=c(0,30)) but this

problem with svyglm()
Hello, I'm trying to use the function svyglm in the library survey. I create a data survey object: data_svy<- svydesign(id=~PSU, strata=~sample_domain, weights=~sample_weight, data=data, nest=TRUE) and I try to use svyglm() with little success: R<-svyglm(data_svy[,4]~(data_svy[,iCol]==listModality[[iVar]] [iMod]),design=data_svy, family=binomial(link="logit") Error in

Can't run AGI for outbound call
Hi Just installed Asterisk on a Debian Woody/testing. I want to create a AGI script that is run after an outbound call is answered. I did this a while back (many versions ago). The problem is Asterisk does not seem to know the AGI application. I create a file test.call and place it in the outbound spool directory: the test.call file looks like this: #Simple test call script. #call my

merging variable and character
Hi R lovers! I'd like to know the trick to get a plot with a title associating variable and text I'd like to plot something like for (i in 1:10) plot(x[,i],ylab="Serie" & i) to get Serie 1 Serie 2 so on and so forth... of course it doesn't work. If somebody could give me an idea, it would be very nice thank you very much and long life to R Vincent

Rsync problem / Special characters
Hi, I have not esatblished a working rsync config on my server, but have found one major problem in which i hope there is a solution to. I'm based in Norway, with scandinavian clients. Of course we use several "special characters" in our keymap, which is not supported in US keyboards etc. I know there is a better word for this, unfortunatly i can't remeber it, so i hope you

labels in a boxplot
Dear R-listers, I have a little problem with a boxplot and I hope you can help me figuring it out. I'll try to make up some data to illustrate the issue. Sorry, if my procedures look naive, but these are my first steps in R. Any comments and/or suggestions are very welcome. let's create a vector var1: var1 <- rnorm(100) and 5 five logical vectors. In this case the vectors don't
