summary with names
Hi, how can I tell 'summary' to print the name of the summarised variable? This is probably an awkward newbie question but I didn't find an answer in the Docus, the FAQ and maillist archive. I want a summary for about 250 variables and realise it the following way (I know, that I shouldn't use iterations that way in R; but at the moment it's the easiest way for me):

Graphics overview
Hi, is there an graphics overview, where the graphic capabitlities of R are shown with the corresponding code? I already tested 'demo(graphics)', that isn't that comprehensive, 'demo(image)', 'demo(lattice)', searched the Mailarchive, googled and the FAQ keeps silent, too. For example, I know how a special graphic I need should look like, but I don't know

Hi, I use a little script? to make a chi-square-test on 162 factors (it makes no difference if I take the numeric variant of the factors). At factor nr. 4 is stops with an error: [1] "v1= V7.KARTM v11= V7.KAR1M" Error in chisq.test(d1, d2) : x and y must have at least 2 levels But x and y /have/ two levels ("nein", "ja"): > fbhint.spss1$V7.KARTM [1] nein

Coefficient names when using lm() with contrasts
Dear R Users, Am using lm() with contrasts as below. If I skip the contrasts() statement, I get the coefficient names to be > names(results$coef) [1] "(Intercept)" "VarAcat" "VarArat" "VarB" which are much more meaningful than ones based on integers. Can anyone tell me how to get R to keep the coefficient names based on the factor levels

Integration between R & latex
As an R absolute beginner and an expert (very old) statistician and latex user, I'm interested in using R to produce AUTOMAGICALLY tables in latex format. I mean I would like to have the means to build an R procedure generating **FROM INSIDE** a table or a graph to be inserted directly into latex. I've read http://hesweb1.med.virginia.edu/biostat/s/doc/summary.pdf where the author speaks

No error on change to password below configured length
Hello! Our users change their passwords using the original Win2K password change mechanisms (Ctrl+Alt+Del -> Change Password). If one of the users changes his password and the new one is shorter then 5 characters it is rejected. This appears in the logfile and that's OK so far but the users don't get notified. They think the password has changed and use the new one. Why is that? Could

Disabling Machine Account password change
Hello! We have a school environment with Debian servers and Win2K clients. There are about 700 clients and 30 servers. There is piece of hardware installed on all clients the resets the changes made to the local disk at reboot. This seems to be a problem with Win2K changing machine account passwords every 30 days (according to MSDN). The server saves the password, the client resets it and domain

sapply to bind columns, with repeat?
Hi R-help, I am working with US COOP network station data and the files are concatenated in single rows for all years, but I need to pull these apart into rows for each day. To do this, I need to extract part of each row such as station id, year, mo, and repeat this against other variables in the row (days). My problem is that there are repeated values for each day, and the files are fixed width

DCT function?
Looking for the DCT function, but don't see it in the signal pkg. http://rss.acs.unt.edu/Rdoc/library/signal/html/signal.package.html http://rss.acs.unt.edu/Rdoc/library/signal/html/00Index.html As I understand it, the 'signal' functions are ports of the corresponding matlab/octave code, where the DCT exists. Did I miss it (different name?) or is someone working on a port for

Changing the size of the bounding box
Greetings all: I have to create a graph that has very specific dimensions for publication purposes. The graph is a semilog scaled graph and the axes must range from 1 to 1,000,000 on the y axis and 0 to 100 on the x axis. The x axis should be exactly 8 inches and the y axis should be exactly 5.25 inches. I've been able to set the plot area to 8 x 5.25 using the par(pin=c(8,5.25)). The
