Installing from RPM on Red Hat 9
Hi Folks,
Sorry to bring up this kind of issue (though any discussion may help
some other people).
I've just installed Red Hat 9 Linux (opting for GNOME) and now want
to install R.
I downloaded the RPM for Red Hat 9 from CRAN (as well as the patched
readline).
Attempting to install ( rpm -i R-1.7.1-1.i386.rpm ) I get, pretty
quickly, the following:
warning: R-1.7.1-1.i386.rpm: V3 DSA

R Install problems with Redhat 9 : "tcl.so" versus "tcl.so.0"
Hi,
I'm having problems with a R Redhat Linux install. Please bear with me,
I've only been working with Linux for about a week here.
I have Redhat Linux 9 running on a recent Pentium machine. Here's the

installing R on Fedora Core 2 test 2
Just a report for those who want to try this. (Executive
summary: It eventually worked.)
The RPM for Fedora Core 1 did not work because it wanted
libtcl8.3.so and libtk8.3.so, while this distribution had 8.4
instead of 8.3. I didn't try making soft links, thus pretending
that it had 8.3. (I'm planning to install the final version of
Core 2 when it comes out soon. This is a computer I

Installing R on Red Hat Linux, Tcl/Tk
Hi,
I've been trying to install R on Red Hat Linux 9 for some
potential users of my R/TclTk application. I tried using the
rpm for R 1.7.1 for Red Hat Linux 9. It told me that I needed:
libtcl8.3.so
so I looked for a binary release of Tcl 8.3.x on
http://www.tcl.tk/software/tcltk/8.3.html
but found that the link to the Tcl 8.3.x binaries pointed to
ActiveTcl 8.4.x . I couldn't see

I've just added this section to the ReadMe file that accompanies the Red

trouble with tcltk (was RE: trouble compiling R on Irix)
Hi,
Thanks to Profs. Ripley and Tierney for their tips, I compiled zlib from
source and gotten further.
Here's where I get stuck, when it tries to compile the tcltk package:
ld32: FATAL 12 : Expecting n32 objects: /usr/local/lib/libtcl8.3.so is
n64.
Now I'm confused. Sounds like 32-bit vs. 64-bit problem. What can I do at
this point?
(This is on Irix.)

Building R on Fedora Core 2 from the src rpm
Hi,
The libtk8.3 dependencies in the R-1.9.0 rpm generate apt conflicts
after an upgrade from Fedora Core 1 to Fedora core 2.
In trying to rebuild the rpm from the source rpm provided on CRAN,
the build fails when it comes time to compile
src/modules/X11/dataentry.c
you get many errors of the form :

> /usr/X11R6/include/X11/Xlib.h:1400: error:

Login screen under 7.1
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
I use a dual headed system with one screen on the digital and the
other on the analogue ports. Since 7.1 the update the login has
switched from the analogue to the digital. This wouldn't be a
problem, but I have the digital rotated 90 degrees into a portrait
mode. Login is thus best done lying down!
Once I've logged in there is no problem,

installing R on RedHat
Dear R People:
Yet again, I am attempting to install R on RedHat Linux.
Here is my sorry attempt to date:
[hodgess at gator hodgess]$ rpm -vi R.rpm
warning: R.rpm: V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID 97d3544e
error: cannot write to %sourcedir /usr/src/redhat/SOURCES
I only want to write it to my own userid, since I am the only one
who uses it.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks,

trouble with tcltk (was RE: trouble compiling R on Irix )
Thanks to Peter Dalgaard and Suchandra Thapa for answering my question!
Before I settle on a particular option, I'd like to ask one more question if
I may: Are there any practical advantages to compiling R to 64-bit vs
32-bit?
Regards,
Andy

NT server connection
Hello Folks,
I have two machines in my workgroup (it is still in the development phase).
One is an NT 4.0 server and the other is a Sun server running Samba (1.9.17p4,
so did not have to do the DES stuff). I am having trouble mounting a samba
share in NT. I want to do this because the NT box has a tape backup and the
sun does not. The tape drive does not show up as a drive that I could share,

A typical spec file
http://www.winehq.org/site/docs/winelib-guide/spec-file says A typical
spec file will look something like this:
init WinMain
rsrc resource.res
And regarding rsrc, "If your project does not have a resource file
then you must omit this entry altogether."
So my mtapi.dll.spec file looks like this:
init DllMain
And I only manually made one since make said it was missing.
But
